If you have interviewed at ICO, do you recommend renting a car to get around Chicago. I am planning to stay for a few days to scope the place and it's just so much more convenient if I have a car. I wasn't sure if the area is car friendly.
If you're looking to check out the cool areas of the city (Lincoln Park, Gold Coast, etc), do not rent a car, they are easily accessible by bus and subway and you will either pay dearly to park or drive around for some time looking for a spot on the street. However, if you're looking to check out some of the areas around the school, like south loop and bridgeport then a car might be helpful, but honesly, those area's are not very interesting, but some students do live there b/c it can be cheaper and its an easy drive to school.
I would also suggest staying at a hotel downtown, like near Millenium park or Magnificent Mile instead of the one near the school that they suggest - its just in a desolate area near the school, really far from the subway. Might as well make it easy to see the city while you're there.
i know there are airport shuttles you can arrange, that can take you to and from school for about $20. def cheaper than a car! it's in the link ICO sent when they told you about the interview, there's a guide at that page you can view.
You can also get a bus/train day pass for just $5 that takes you within a few blocks of the school. That seemed really easy so that's what I'm going to do, unless it really doesn't work out.
