Trauma: Life in the ER

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I agree that Untold Stories is a little more entertainment geared/cheesy. However, there are so many memorable happenings that I think it makes the show well worth the watch (the gunman that shoots up the ER, the young girl that gets a fork stuck in her throat, the can of poison that causes the ER nurses to faint and poisons the ER, the woman who asks and gets preferential treatment because she knows the president of the hospital and is a donor (financially) to the hospital, the ER physician who has his son who got bit by a snake and his facing death in the ER, the two girls that are impaled and both dangling on a pole etc.). Even to an ER physician, I'd imagine most of these cases are not routine and are really interesting to watch.

Maybe I'm the only one, but I think Untold Stories of the ER is a little cheesy in comparison to the others - some of the attendings they have on that show seem to just be hamming it up for the cameras, and the re-enactments are pretty lame sometimes. Haha

I like this show....However, I enjoyed "Resident Life" more....but whatever happened to that show?!!?!?

Is that the one that was the pediatric residents at Arkansas Childrens' Hospital? That's the best medical docudrama I've seen.

Aside from that I like Becker with Ted Danson, lol. He's a mirror image of all the doctors I know.

Are any of these shows actually real recordings rather than dramatizations? More like emergency level one.

Yes, most of the shows talked about are actually recorded. My favorite is Trauma. If that show were an eligible baccalaureate, I would be married right now. 😛

"Hopkins" was a 7-part documentary series that came out in summer 2008...simply amazing!! I bought it on iTunes...you can watch it on netflix, buy the actual dvd copy, or probably find it somewhere on line for free. haha It goes into the lives of doctors at John Hopkins Hospital both at work and home. DEFINITELY recommend watching!!

Saw this too. Was very good.

All are great shows IMHO, but nothing compared the real thing. To watch 2 or 3 helicopters flying around waiting to land while the one on the pad unloads a patient who's burnt to a crisp - it's just insane. It looks like a scene from Vietnam or something.

Does anyone know where i can watch hopkins online, for free???

Try Yahoo answers..I know some people had the same question..I think you might end up having to buy it on iTunes. It's only $8 🙂 Hope you can find it online for free though!

MSNBC did a one hour special on I think the peds residents there. I can't recall, but it was at ACH and it dealt with a year in the life of a resident. It is on the MSNBC video-on-demand playlist. Pretty interesting to see the progression of the residents

Had to comment saying that BostonMed is a new t.v. show documentary series premiering on June 24th on ABC Channel 7...I just saw the preview for it on t.v. It will be just like Hopkins I was talking about a few days ago. This show looks really good! 🙂

Yep, looking forward to BostonMed --- I personally lived in Cambridge for 2 years, and did research at McLean Hospital before starting medschool. It would be great if I saw a few familar faces 🙂

For anybody that watched the show a few days ago did anybody see the guy from Orlando that was cleaning out the gutters? For those that didn't he feel off the ladder RECTUM FIRST onto a tree branch, the branch ended up being like 2.5 feet long. It was crazy when the opened his chest to cut it out because it had nicked his heart.

Talk about being screwed

Yea I saw that in the thread about ER stories. The thing I noticed was that I heard them talking about it on the Episode when they were in Las Vegas. And the attending in the other thread that mentioned was from Vegas. Is the doc from the show on SDN?

After watching for 4 hours today (this show really sucks you in), I was wondering, what would an intern/resident tell someone that his job was?

I realize that they are MD's, but if someone outside of the hospital, asked what your job was, what would you tell them?

For example, would you tell them that you were an orthopedic surgeon (even though you are just a resident)?

i have no idea. if they are, they should def give an SDN shout out on the show haha.

I wouldn't tell anyone I was a doctor outside of work. I don't.

I don't think I would want to either.

Just out of curiosity, what do you tell people that you do? Assuming they ask you

If someone saw me in scrubs, I tell them I'm an X-ray tech. No one hates the X-ray tech. Otherwise, in normal clothes, I tell them I repair computers.

Haha, really? Can I ask why?

I'm guessing because there are a lot of connotations that come along with being a doctor, both positive and negative.

I don't think I would go as far as telling someone that I am a computer repairman though...

OMG I love discovery health!! Its like the only channel I watch! Although during the day its all the stupid shows like adoption stories, bringing home baby, making room for multiples, and the worst..deliver me.
I think someone at the beginning at the thread mentioned the show impact..its still on ..at 5 am. (I only know that because I fall asleep with my tv on and for some reason i always wake up when that show is on!) anyways that show is really good. and right before it theres one that is filmed at University of Maryland's shock trauma center which is cool b/c I volunteered there. too bad it comes on at 4am.
also did anyone watch mystery diagnosis last night? the airf orce guy was craazzyyy!

I think I heard from someone that Oprah bought discovery health and is turning it into the Oprah network though. which is dumb.
