I just received notification that my travel voucher has been settled through ETF. Well, it was WAY more than I was expecting it to be. Are we compensated for time without our household goods or something? This is the only reason I can think of for the amount to be so high, unless they think I drove my POV across the pacific. I'm just wondering if there was a huge error and I can expect to be paying it back.

Yes, theres things like TLA (temp living allowance) that you can get in addition to per diem, travel etc. Log into mypay and pull up your travel voucher. Everything should be itemized there. Do the math yourself, if thereS a mistake, save the money. They may/may not come after you for it.

No access to MyPay yet. Do I need to call them to get a PIN or what?

I was under the impression that they always came after you for overpaid money. Have you heard or witnessed otherwise?

I went through my paperwork and the dates of the voucher cover from when my POV was shipped to when we arrived at our PCS location. I'm not in the myPay system yet so I can't actually check the itemization of it.

Yeah, first time I PCSd I was overpaid by $2K. I received notification that theyd be coming after me for it, but they never did. Grant it, that was 9 yrs ago (systems are more elecronic these days with better tracking).

Yes you need a PIN to access mypay. I think you can set it up or request it on the mypay site. (i think they mail it to you the first time)

Ha! Gotta love the category "Problems You Want to Have."

Ya, had some experiences with this before. When/if they notice the mistake, the finance people will lop the excess off your next paycheck. Notice that I said "if". I know some guys who got a few extra K and it was never noticed. The government gives out a lot of $.

And if they do notice, just play dumb. It was their mistake, not yours. They're not going to do anything to you except take the money out of your next check. In the meantime, buy yourself a CD or pay down a loan or something with the extra cash.

good idea. It's not like I have access to anything to verify the itemization. I think I'll use the extra cash to ship my other car over here. Having one car for a family sucks.

Anyone know a good POV shipper that's quick?

From a good idea to a bad idea. M4 recommended doing something with no risk (pay down a loan, take out a CD) so that if they recoup the money, you aren't in trouble. Don't use the money for anything you wouldn't otherwise do. They are fairly likely to want it back and when they do, they can just take it.

So it's very likely a massive overpayment?

Is the extra money your dislocation allowance (DLA)? It is about 3k and covers moving expenses in a lump sum standard amount based on your rank and whether or not you have dependents.

Yeah, sounds like DLA money. I think you can safely spend it on hookers and blow, I mean, moving expenses.

Worst case is they overpaid you for something else and will want it back, but if that's the case you'll get your DLA later.

It must be the DLA. I remember there was a huge debate during inprocessing of whether or not we get DLA since we technically weren't doing a PCS but ocming onto AD for the first time. Guess they decided to give it to us.

I'm glad, because I still don't have my first actual paycheck for hookers and blow.

Damn those pesky core values, what was that thing about integrity?

Lol! I'm going to avoid the big angels on pinhead debate and just go straight to "Call me in ten years and let me know what you think then."

Good times.

Some of us have been living those core values for the better part of the last 10 and still take them seriously. What an awesome attitude to have.

I think we're all for the core values. But when a mistake (benefiting you) is not yours--when you've brought it to the attention of your PSD three times, and they still cant seem to correct the discrepancy--then in the words of Steve Miller: "Go on take the money and run"

Go forth young crusader, and put your vigor to better use.

I completely understand that situation, I've been there plenty of times. The only thing that bothered me was that I viewed AF M4's comments as telling the OP to purposefully not disclose what he believed to be an overpayment, and then to "play dumb" if he was called on it. I know what it's like to be overpaid, and underpaid. If you do your best to fix it, and finance can't get their stuff together, then it's on them. I know I don't have that much time to chase these people around. Maybe I misunderstood AF M4's comments, if so I apologize.

I make no apologies for my complete lack of integrity. Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go down to pediatrics and see if they've refilled the candy jar yet.

You're the man. The mil screwed your career. You might as well take all that you can, including the candy.

I miss the days of drug rep lunches, before the ethics police ruined that.

I never was quite sure how grabbing a sandwich from the OB clinic influenced my practice over in anesthesia land, but they assured me I was being subconsciously bribed. The FP clinic was the best - back in the day we could count on breakfast AND lunch almost every day.

It was a sad day when ondansetron went off patent, because the Zofran chick ALWAYS brought great stuff.

Oh well.
