Traveling with my cat

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Not a plane ride but I took my cat on a 4+ hour train ride and the sedative I gave him made him very sluggish but he still made plenty of noise on the train. At one point he finally fell asleep (at least I THOUGHT) and I closed my eyes. I woke to find the person sitting next to me terrified and I looked down to see my cat staring up at me from OUTSIDE HIS CARRIER. He escaped and decided to sit on the floor by my feet. Apparently my seat companion was terrified of cats and was too scared to tell me mine had escaped.

Sorry to be a downer but I need a place to vent.

My cat is inside/outside and I havn't seen him in over 24 hours 🙁 we're supposed to leave for Ann Arbor next week :dead:
@TSteezy ... sending good thoughts to you and your cat. Hope he returns home soon.

some useful links on the subject from TSA, Delta and United. And of course be wary of United as just last week they wrestled a centuries old violin from a classical musician's hands who was trying to have it as carry on luggage. Another example of United Employee resorting to Vio-lins (violence).

Traveling is for the dogs...and cats and other small pets

Well, even people with moderate allergies deserve to be comfortable ( those severe allergies are rare). And ofc, those with severe allergies deserve to not die, that goes w/o saying. I mean , it's still pretty unfair to make someone be eyes/nose itching/leaking/sneezing fits even if they won't die, you know?
Does anyone here have severe allergies themselves? Have you ever been in the " pets while traveling" issue?
Edit: I knew that was a joke I was just further clarifying my point ( that wasn't made clear in my original post, Ramadan does weird things to my brain sometimes)

I think you misinterpreted my point (or more likely, I didn't phrase it too well). It was more a cheeky remark about the ignorance of the general public that people with severe allergies can actually die from even something simple as a house cat on a plane with them.

I'm still curious about that extreme allergy question though. ( Where even the fact that the pet is contained/ you can change seats/ benedryl is available on board is not enough to assuage the problem)
I guess, in that case, probability plays a role.
Like, people travel with their pets only when moving, so what are the odds somebody with a cat is traveling in the same cabin as someone with that extreme an allergy ( anaphylazis from pets is very rare), and if it is an issue they probably just make the person with the pet move to an opposite end of the plane I guess. On one hand, people with pets should be allowed to move with them and not have them tossed into luggage hold, on the other hand, people with pet allergies have the right to be comfy while traveling.
the guy next to me was allergic to cats and he moved. simple as that
