What do you think the typical day of a doctor is?

With the many specialties and varied working environments, how is there a cohesive answer to this question? Do you just say you realize that it depends on specialty, environment, etc. and then pick one profession and try to describe their day best??

Yes, I'm preparing for an interview.

Thanks in advance!

Wake up early, get yelled at for not being as awesome at medicine as the internet, skip lunch, try to convince people to stop destroying themselves, try to make it home by dinner.

I've never heard of this as an interview question - the only thing they would expect you to know is the schedule of someone you shadowed.

a little side note to that....i was just reading some articles about people who are now tattooing their freakin' eyeballs!!! they are trying to tattoo the whites of their eyes....first they tried the "regular" way of getting a tattoo, and when they found the ink would stay they tried using a syringe...crazy:scared:

I think the point of this question is just to make sure that you know what you're getting yourself into.

Someone that responds:

Wake up at 8. Get to office at 9. Save humanity and fawn over all the people I've helped. Lunch. Hit a few holes of golf. Return to office. Think about probono work that I can do in underserved areas on the weekends. Answer numerous calls and letters of thanks. Return home to loving spouse and children at around 5.

Is probably not too in touch with reality.

If you have a concrete example, i.e. the day that you spent shadowing x physician, describe that. i'm sure that would be more than sufficient.

See patients....lot's of them.
