I am awful at trig. I can not simplify trig expressions in the math destroyer for the life of me. Does anyone know how detailed trig is on the actual DAT?

People have said it is about the same difficulty as Math Destroyer, so master those problems.
 
Yea...Im going to be screwed...I do not really understand the explanations for trig solutions...Like this on

If 2sin(x)-1=0, what is the value of x if 0<x<pi/2

So I solve for sin(x)=1/2 ( The solutions say 1/.2 but I do not know where that . comes from)

And I am guessing since our x value is positive and the sin(x) is positive that that would be the y coordinate...so we are in the 1st quadrant. (if I am even thinking about this correctly) But I do know how to get an answer.

The solutions states "sin(x)=1/.2, which in the first quadrant gives a value of x=30 or pi/6 radians.

isolate the sin: sin(x) = 1/2
You will need to understand/memorize some of the common angles and their sin/cosine values.You need to know that sin(30 degrees) [or pi/6] is 1/2. So this means x can be pi/6 (quadrant 1) or pi-pi/6 (quad 2). The latter is just 150 degrees (or a reference angle of 30 degrees), both of which give +1/2. Of course, pi-pi/6 is outside of of our domain, so we can neglect it. We can also ignore any coterminal angle with pi/6 that is beyond the domain (such as 390 degrees)

U def need Math destroyer. Find someone who just took the DAT and buy it from them. Its cheaper.
 
Learn the basics of trig first. You need to understand the trig functions, their domain and ranges, the common angles expressed in terms of pi, the trig values of those angles and the basic trig identities. It's really not that bad when you actually begin to learng the basics. Perhaps an online tutorial or even a cliff's style review book would suffice.

I tutor kids in math and refer them to purplemath.com for many algebra and basic trig tutorials)
 
On the upside, I've heard math is the least of your worries as far as admissions is concerned. Better to struggle with math than PAT, do your best but I would focus on killing the other areas.
