I sincerely apologize if this post offends anyone. Before you start to read any further this is a personal dilemma that deals with being accepted, yet not real focused----it is not to appear ungrateful for my opportunity or crass.

Is anyone else going through "I want out of undergrad---this final semester is killing/boring me" mode. I have been accepted to dental school but I'm simply finding it hard to focus in this final undergrad semester. I'm taking, among other courses, biochem. and physio.-- and they are killing me. I can barely drag myself to class and find studying for the exams more painful than before acceptance. Yes, I realize the importance of these classes-- and yes, I will see them again...blah, blah blah...but that doesn't seem to matter right now. And no, I'm not into the night-life and out partying----I'm an older candidate and haven't done that in years. Come to think of it-- that might be my problem

Is it just me or are there similar stories? What are you doing to get through this final hurdle?

I agree with you. I'm losing focus on my courses too, especially when I'm forced to take courses like stats to complete my degree. I'm just gonna grind through the last month or so and make sure I get decent grades. Hey, it's just a few more weeks till summer vacation...you've already come this far, you're almost to the finish line.

Like you said, maybe you should have a drink or two and let loose a little one of these nights. I know DrDMD05 went for a little happy hour this past weekend

I'm an older student, too (28)and I'm just getting sick of undergrad (and realizing that I'm just too old for it now) and the painful repeated torture cycles of quizzes, problem sets and labs.

I'm totally burned out. So that's why I'm taking a year off, next year.

I think it's also just the effect of upper level classes in general. When I was taking Bio, Gen Chem and Physics, these were large classes with lots of enthusiastic freshmen and sophs with lots of participation. I took Anatomy and Physiology last semester, I couldn't stand the people in my classes, but the subject matter was immensely interesting.

But this semester, I'm taking Biochem (very dry), Organic II and Org II Lab. It's all really dry and and the classes are really small and sedate.

But it seemed kinda like this when I was in undergrad too.
Personally, I was lucky and got my "groove" back by meeting a ton of new people, (including lots of freshmen) and had a brilliant senior year.

On the bright side, I think dental school will be much better. The subject matter should improve, as well as other students enthusiasm for studying. I believe that dental school will be a lot more cohesive. (i've heard it's a lot like high school).

It sounds like you might be burned out to me, I highly recommend the option of a year off if you feel THAT unenthusiastic about things. you wouldn't want to enter dental school in a anything less than a *great* mood.

There's some books on Amazon on the med school experience and residency. One that comes to mind, is a description about a recent med grad who was enthusiastic about residency, but found himself in a *bad* mood only a few months after. misery loves company.

You're better off than I am. I still have to take the DAT in June, apply and take Physics II in July/ Aug.

Good luck. Hope this helps.

Oh maaan!

I hear you guys! I'm just finishing up the last couple of months of undergrad, and REALLY looking forward to getting on with Dentistry.

What am I doing?! Well, I'm a lot less stressed now, I'm just bored. So I spend a little less time with school work and a little more time enjoying myself. Bizarre as it is, my marks are actually going up.

All in the name of "celebration" of course!!

This is like back in high school, when I knew I'd get into UoT, the last 4 months were HORRIBLE! I was soooo anxious and bored.

*shrugs* Such is life, right?

i know what you mean. im trying to just finish this semester off and i dont care if i get a b in english. thank God there be no engish inz dentals school

id just take it easy and make sure you dont get any c's or d's. i think that the schools (tufts does anyways) realize this and thats why it says on the acceptance letter to finish required course work with at least a 2.0 average. they know that this last semester is just torture and want us to "relax" just a bit before all hell breaks lose in august. take care and take it easy.

I know the feeling. Before my acceptance, it was hard to focus because I was so worried about getting in. Now, it's SO much worse. It's all I can do to make my self study anymore. Now I can't pull myself this forum, sites about the city I'm moving to, etc...

I'm holding on for dear life to make grades these days. I haven't made an A on an exam this yet this semester. I'm so thankful for my acceptance, but when I say the pressure's off IT'S OFF!!!

Phew! Thought I might be the only one! It is my spring break and I have 2 huge exams the week I get back----biochem & physio.!!!! It is going to be a "wonderful" break
