Hi I took the MCAT once but ended up voiding it. So I have no score for the first attempt. I'm trying to take it a second time in June 2018. I know that I should have everything ready by May but I probably wont have the MCAT scores till July. I have no idea what to do in order to apply early and not put myself in a situation of applying late. Can I apply to smp programs as well without submitting an MCAT score?

Get everything filled out, transcripts requested etc.

have everything sent in as far as transcripts and LOR and everything else. take the mcat and send grades when they get in. i took it last june and and sent in grades after. its really not late although you may feel like it is

July is still really early. I wasn't complete until mid to late November most DO schools I applied to, and I still got plenty of IIs.

Agree with above. This is not a problem and you will still be very early. Recommend having everything else already turned in and ready to go so your MCAT truly is the last thing to be turned in.

Also, welcome to the 2018-2019 cycle, SDN...

The DO cycle is much longer and it only takes like, a day to get verified. Just have everything prepped while waiting for your score.

I took the MCAT the end of May and submitted AACOMAS the end of June. I don't think being a month later would've had any impact.

I took mcat June 30 and applied early August with no issues. Just take it when you’re ready. Do schools are still interviewing a lot of people even this far in.

Thanks so much everyone! I really appreciate the advice and feedback. @parslea Thanks! It's nice to finally be applying.

I also took June 30th, MCAT back by August 1st, I was already verified so I had an interview invite within 2 weeks for the end of August, acceptance by September, and 9 other invites. So a June MCAT didn't hold me back at all. So worth it to take a bit longer and get a better score

That’s awesome! How does verification work? Do you have to submit an MCAT score to be verified or only transcripts etc? How did you get secondaries complete by August?

So to be verified you have to submit to at least one school. You need to submit your transcripts and your personal statement. And at least for the osteopathic schools you can added your activity section later but it's not a bad idea to get that going. So you could submit with your personal statement transcripts and try and get those letters in just to make sure it's all out of the way as soon as the application opens. Make sure that the AAMC will send ACOMAS your MCAT and that will make it available within at least a couple days of your score release. Because you are already verified by the time your MCAT score gets back when you send in your application it is a complete application and they will receive it immediately, and typically you'll get your secondary back within a day to a couple weeks, usually of the shooter end. While you are waiting for your MCAT to come back because you've already written your personal statement and filled out your activities and stuff, other people might have already got some secondaries back, but don't worry about that. Go to the school specific threads for each School you intend on applying to and look for the secondary prompts, that way you can start prewriting your secondaries for each School. Especially for osteopathic schools their shirts to be a lot of very similar prompts so it gets easier and easier the more you do, but don't wait until you get your secondaries to write them. That way the day you get them you can send it right back because you already have it ready. I hope that answered your question! If you do all that you should have a few secondary applications complete Within the week of getting your MCAT. And if your stats and everything are good some interviews by August! Good luck

Thanks that helps a lot! Didn't know about searching school specific threads. Really helpful information. Thanks!

If you don't mind me asking did you get a competitive score (510+)?

Not to hijack the thread but I have a slightly similar situation (although I do have an MCAT score, just a low one).

I'm taking my 2nd MCAT June 1st, should I submit everything else to be verified and apply to a throwaway school???

I really want to be early as I that will be my best shot along with applying broadly and just want some insight to the process!
