Hey guys,

I'm looking for a little advice for when I should apply to pod school. I'll have everything I need to apply this coming August, except for the MCAT. I decided to take a prep course and as a result I won't be taking it until sometime in late January. I have, however, heard of people interviewing (and even getting accepted!) to pod schools before they have taken the MCAT.

When do you guys think I should apply? August, January, or just wait until August of next year?

If it helps, my stats are as follows:

3.1 sGPA,
3.38 cGPA
Gen Chem 1: C, Retook for A
Gen Chem 2: A
Orgo 1: A
Orgo 2: In progress
Physics 1 and 2: A
Bio 1: B
Bio 2: C
Also retook (for an A) a few engineering courses that I didn't do so well on the first semester of undergrad)
Last 50 or so undergraduate credit hours are 3.95.
150 hours of shadowing (100 with a pod).
Over 300 hours of volunteering, both clinical and non clinical.

You have good stats so applying when you receive your MCAT scores wont be a problem at all

And important question to ask is: what school(s) are you looking at?

You wouldn't get your score back until late February meaning you wouldn't interview until March. Some of the smaller schools will be (if not already!) Close to full, making your chance of acceptance more difficult.

agreed. I would get the app in by December. figure processing time+Christmas break in there and you have a interview in early Jan. They can interview you without an MCAT score if you have already taken the exam

Don't apply this August if you aren't taking your MCAT until January, because interview dates come quickly and it's a really fast process once you apply. Apply in January around the time you take your MCAT so that when the score comes in you can just do your interviews. However, you should consider that the schools will see this MCAT school and you won't have the opportunity to retake for that cycle if you don't get the score you want. Good luck!

I was wondering if anyone knows how you would indicate to schools that you are gonna take another MCAT again after you submit your app. I plan on e-submitting early in august and don't get mcat scores until mid august. If I happen to need to retake the mcat after i submitted the app (which indicates I took it in july), can you "update" the app to add another mcat date to it?

- thanks!

yes, you just add another MCAT section to the test section and select the "plan to take" and the month you plan to take it.

thanks for your reply!

Are you sure you can revise the app like this? All the directions say that once you e-submit you can't go back and edit the app...i'm planning to e-submit before my mcat score comes out and am wondering if in the event that I need to retake I can go back to and indicate on the "already submitted" app that I'm gonna retake.
