So I have absolutely no connections to any doctors in my area, and I'm trying to find some random shadowing opportunities..

I read a couple of threads on here about emailing vs calling the doctor's office, and a lot of people said that email sometimes works best because you can directly contact the actual doctor.

But how do you obtain their email address in the first place?!

All the sites I've been on for different clinics give a general phone number, or maaybe an email for the receptionist of the whole office, but never the doctor himself. Googling didn't turn out any results either.

Yeah I had that issue too. I called all the physician offices and the physician assistant/secretary either gave me the doctors email address, or actually set up the whole shadowing appointment for me. They are always easy going, so just call and say "My name is "" and I am a student at "" and I was wondering if I can shadow Dr"". Then they will probably go ask the doctor or other people for more info and come back with a few dates that you can come in...or they will call you back (and half of them called me back, when the other half didnt, so just call multiple offices).

call the office and ask the receptionist. say you are a pre-med looking to shadow a doctor and you are very interested in the type of medicine so and so practices. Chances are the email address won't be given to you but leave all your information and hope the doctor gets back to you.

It is much easier though if you have a professor who knows physicians, the school has relationships with a few, your family has doctor friends, ect.

You don't need to have any sort of relation to the doctor your going to shadow - I shadowed 4 different doctors who I just found randomly on the hospital website. Call a bunch of them - sometimes you will get an email address, sometimes you will get instructions on what to do, and sometimes they will tell you that they will call you back (and some of them do and some of them don't), but just keep trying. It works 100% of the time - doctors actually LOVE it when a student shadows them.

look for a university or hospital research directory, they'll have emails of Ph.D. and MDs. Hospitals don't usually publish emails
Reach the volunteer office of the hospital. That is how I started shadowing in the hospital. It took me more than a month to complete all tests, training, vaccines, background check etc.
