Sure, I'll step in and help here. This used to be in the TUCOM handbook posted online, but they've since moved it into a login-required portion of the site.
The year is typically broken up into 13 4-week blocks (and/or 12 calender months at specific sites/rotations). (Yes, 13 months during the year.)
During the 3rd year, your rotations will be:
- 8 weeks surgery/surgical specialty,
- 8 weeks family med,
- 8 weeks internal med,
- 4 weeks psych,
either:
- 6 weeks ob/gyn,
- 6 weeks peds,
or:
- 4 weeks ob/gyn,
- 4 weeks peds,
- 4 weeks EM.
- 8 weeks electives.
- 4 weeks vacation.
Add it up for a total of 13 weeks, as promised above. It's kind of nice, IMO, that you have some flexibility in your third year. Beyond your basic cores, you can really load up in specific areas.
If you're interested in EM for example, you could technically have 4 months worth of EM (EM, vacation, electives) in your 3rd year... not many schools can match that. However, everyone believes it's a pretty bad idea to emphasize any specific field *that* heavily this early in your career.
Your 4th year, as is the case in most schools, is highly flexible.
