Well...it seems I have a letter of continued interest to write tonight... just curious would any of you consider telling the adcom that you have been accepted elsewhere, or would you keep that to yourself?

I wrote a letter of intent in April, but perhaps they want more recent letters? thoughts??

I am battle with the same questions. I wrote a LOI right after my interview but thinking about writing another. But what else can I really say if I've already guaranteed I will attend. That is basically the utmost interest and I think it's well known that going back on that guarantee is unethical. Sooo.

You can tell them. But be absolutely sure that you make the point that this is absolutely your number one choice. And that if accepted you will attend this school in a heart beat.

hey guys...im an avid reader of this forum because i too was on the torturous high waitlist for the upcoming class. i never posted here because i didnt like adding to all the tension. i can attest to the fact that there has been movement of the waitlist because today i got a phone call during lunch from touro ca offering me a spot. i can tell you that i interviewed with the 3rd to the last group and notified of my waitlist status on may 20. i sent in 2 additional letter of recommendations a week later and just yesterday sent in a "letter of continued interest" stating that really i want to go to the school and why. though it may have been a coincidence, i honestly think it helped. i wish you all the best of luck in pursuing your dream. don't give up, stay positive, and everything will be ok.

BTW agree with the waitlist mov't. I keep putting all these theories in my head though about how they are doing it. I sent in my letter of continued interest and Dean Haight said "good timing and well worded" I didn't want to read to much into it, but I did of course. What did he mean by good timing? Is the adcom meeting a certain amount of times per week? Is it one person, or ten? How does it work???!! AHHHH!!!!

All the other accounts of acceptances were by phone calls right? Has anyone been accepted without a phone call (i.e. email or letter?) I hate waiting for the phone to ring, I feel like a desperate woman waiting to hear back from a first date... it sucks!

I feel myself sinking further and further into hopelessness.... I think I am going to go to the library and try to burry myself in a good book, cause all this waiting around is not doing anything for me. P.S. Throne of Kings (HBO) series is a really good way to spend 10 hours of idleness...

Just out of curiosity, what is the backstory behind ewheezy? My friend at work calls me that cause the first letter of my first name is an E... and I know the wheezy part is a shout out to lil'wayne (or at least I assume it is).

The microscope gal is because I used to work in a histology laboratory where I took all the confocal fluorescent microscope pics for a neurology lab. Not nearly as cryptic as deadly warbler or ewheezy. The profile pic is a primary culture of rat brain astrocytes... sorry for getting all nerdy on you. I'm bored.

I'm so happy to see I'm not the only one going hyper-cerebral about this whole thing. I wonder if the admissions office realizes how precisely we take each of their words. A phrase like "good timing" is enough to send our hopes through the roof at this point! Well done, microscope gal on getting that letter in!

So far it's been all phone calls that I've heard of. Seems to be the most reliable way to get a hold of people. I hear they are giving like 24 hours to decide and put down the deposit. My phone never leaves my side. If I develop some sort of tumor from having this thing on me all the time, let's hope it leads to an acceptance so I can be in med school and fix the darned thing!

Hey, if you're bored, I've been reading the complete novels and stories of Sherlock Holmes by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. They are really fun, and follow an old style of medical and scientific investigation. Between Holmes and Dr. Watson there's a lot of fun accounts! If not that, re-runs of Scrubs fit the bill.

You probably haven't found the RIGHT lab yet LabLuvr... I feel like the "lab" experience can be AMAZING or absolutely HORRENDOUS... all dependent on

I agree; those variables do all count. I'm finishing up a master's project and have had quite a few problems with my experiments. Things have been going smoothly for a while now though. My advisor is a really laid back guy, but I wish he was a little more motivating for me. My project and topic are both great because I designed them and my lab mates are not very nerdy at all. A few of them also want to go to medical school. But as you said, hopefully none of this will matter in the very near future!

I'll second that. Bay traffic is bad from SF to Vallejo unless you time it perfect. Bay bridge, McAurthor maze, University Ave... It's basically non-stop and you get a bridge toll BOTH ways! I had romantic ideas of living in SF but practicality has over-ridden that... But then, I'll bet its totally possible. Especially if you value living in the city.

Vallejo is a huge no-no for me personally, being veg and needing lots of easy options to eat when im busy, unless someone knows of an area that caters to veg/vegans. I'm planning on packing all my own food with me to bring to school anyway as I'm becoming quite accustomed to.

also, not that I'd ever recommend it as it's not for everyone, but traffic isn't really as much of a big deal if you're a motorcyclist as lane splitting is legal in CA.

from SF to vallejo is a little inconvenient, but there is a ferry service from north beach that is 40 minutes to vallejo that you could use to study. SF is hectic, but there are some neighborhoods that you could land a place in without spending a fortune but it's going to be S-M-A-L-L from my recon.

Amburger can you explain this a little further please? Did you send a LOI or extra recommendations last year? What about the early accept program last summer? Did you just reapply this cycle and have to interview all over again? I'm curious about this...thanks for the info.

Thanks for sharing amburger16. I can feel the nausea... I was waitlisted a diff school last year, and this feel just as awful Its good to have a reality check of the situation though, so thank you very much for letting us know. I wish there was someone we could talk to about this process (like the Dean) who could break it all down.

Wow, thanks for sharing... I am kinda freaked out now! Were you given any indication as to why you were not selected? GPA? MCAT?

This raises the question that I've been thinking about. During the ranking process, does TUCOM ever move people who were originally on the high waitlist to the medium or low list? I would think it would be hard for them to justify admitting medium waitlisters over high waitlisters unless they were moved to different lists... I hope they don't do this since my being on the high list is really my main hope right now!

I know I dont really have "the right" to post in this thread anymore since I've decided to remove myself from the Touro waitlist hell and instead go to AZCOM, but I just want to say that I really feel for you guys.

I cannot believe that we are in the last few days of June and it appears only a few people have been pulled from the high-waitlist. I am also puzzled/disturbed by the fact that apparently someone was on the high-waitlist last year and was neither offered a seat last year from the waitlist, nor offered an early acceptance seat.
I know when I was hounding admissions regarding what my chances were of being pulled from the high-waitlist, I was told numerous times that in past years, they have always gotten through the high-waitlist and into the medium waitlist. With that information, I basically assumed that my place on the high-waitlist meant that I would eventually be offered a seat. It's concerning to see that apparently this isn't the case.

Also, now that I dont have to "watch what I say", I must admit that I think Touro is being incredibly inconsiderate regarding the waitlist situation. They have information that would be very helpful to those on the waitlist, but for whatever reason, have decided not to make this information known.. Obviously they aren't going to gaurantee anyone a seat, but they could tell people, "We have X number of seats available. There are X number of people on the high waitlist, X number on the medium. etc". This info would help to answer alot of questions and would really help people make some very important decisions about their future. I just don't get why the admin refuses to provide any helpful info.

I don't mean to bash Touro. Obviously I loved the school and would have been very happy there. But for me, that "update" they sent out a few weeks ago was the last straw. They knew we were all sitting on our hands waiting for this all important update that we hoped and assumed would let us know where we stood, and instead we got an email saying "You are on the waitlist, you may be offered a seat at any time". I was becoming increasingly annoyed with Touro, and for me, that was the last straw.

Again, there are things I loved about the school and Im sorry I wont end up there so I hope Ive not offended anyone with this criticism. Good luck to all of you on the waitlist. I hope you hear good news this week.

Thanks for the well wishes! I pretty much am trying to get all my affairs in order for LECOM at this point. Trying to price out books, figure out the cost of a uhaul and trying to get things in line. I don't want to actually do anything yet, but the day is coming when I am going to have to. I just hate the idea of rushing cross country without being prepared. I wish Touro could just say YES or NO. And end all of this speculation. It would have been really nice to have been given a number at least. Something that can help me make a better informed decision. Leaving my husband and dogs in Cali is not at all a sunny proposition, but starting medical school completely unprepared isn't either... ugh. They have until July 15th before I have to get the heck out of dodge... all I can do is and pray...

Wow, you would have to leave your family here?? That is rough... I feel for YOU! I would HATE to have to move cross-country with two weeks notice to start medical school without my family.

I agree, at least giving us a number or an idea of our position would certainly tame our anxieties and would also keep our interest in the school. Getting ready to start medical school is a huge change. A few weeks preparation would be wonderful. Touro seems to be risking losing a lot of valuable applicants at this rate. I know we are valuable because they chose to put us on the high-waitlist to begin with!

Has anyone inquired about this yet? Also, I was high wait listed last year at Touro Nevada and didn't get pulled. Being a high alternate is no guarantee for admission. And here I am again, almost July and on the high alternate list again but for Touro CA this time. Don't lose hope though.

I decided to call the admissions office this afternoon to see if I could get any information out of them for all of us. I figured I wouldn't find out anything new, but just felt like calling. I was told that they can't tell us how many people are on the high wait list nor could they tell us our ranking...already knew that. She told me if accepted, the deposit will be $2000...again, already know that. I then asked her if they usually get through the high wait list every year and she was very hesitant to answer that question...of course. She did tell me that usually they get pretty far into the wait list and that there is no specific day of the week that they accept people off the wait list. It depends upon people dropping out of the class.

Having heard all of this, does that mean that the class is full and we are just waiting for openings? I'm beginning to think that, because wouldn't they otherwise accept a large number of waitlisters all at once. Obviously Touro isn't trying to torture us, so it's hard for me to believe that they have a bunch of open seats just hanging around.

For me, it really doesn't matter how long they take because if I get accepted I will go there. I applied very late in the cycle and interviewed even later. I really hope we all do get off the wait list, but I feel mostly for those in my spot...having to consider the possibility of reapplying. There has to be more movement this week or next. Lets all pray, cross our fingers, or whatever so we all get spots!

I decided to call the admissions office this afternoon to see if I could get any information out of them for all of us. I figured I wouldn't find out anything new, but just felt like calling. I was told that they can't tell us how many people are on the high wait list nor could they tell us our ranking...already knew that. She told me if accepted, the deposit will be $2000...again, already know that. I then asked her if they usually get through the high wait list every year and she was very hesitant to answer that question...of course. She did tell me that usually they get pretty far into the wait list and that there is no specific day of the week that they accept people off the wait list. It depends upon people dropping out of the class.

Having heard all of this, does that mean that the class is full and we are just waiting for openings? I'm beginning to think that, because wouldn't they otherwise accept a large number of waitlisters all at once. Obviously Touro isn't trying to torture us, so it's hard for me to believe that they have a bunch of open seats just hanging around.

Labluvr, thanks for making that call! I know we all appreciate it, even if they only give out information that we are already well aware of. I think your thought is valid regarding the open seats. I had thought the same thing that if they did have a vast majority of the class open that they were not doing themselves any favors by waiting so long to fill it. This is a very discouraging realization, but I'm starting to think it makes the most sense...

Well, I think you have the right idea, which is to just be patient and wait...

It definitely means they fill the class first and then accept wait list candidates after people drop out and things move around. The way most medical schools, including Touro, work admissions is that they over admit by about 50-100 seats or so. Usually they lose a good portion of those to people going to other schools etc. If they lose more than what they anticipated, they dip into the wait list to make up the deficit. Other reasons for dipping into the wait list would be something like this... Say the final deposit is paid (May 15 is when Touro required it to be in) and then for some reason you get in off a wait list at another school you preferred to Touro. Well then anther spot opens up. Either way, the class was supposed to be full and then we are truly the alternates. Lets just hope they didn't admit to many over the class size (135) and they need a lot of us. Sorry if this is already well known to most of you. I don't mean to give information you already have.

I received the update #2. It was good in the sense that they let us in on a bit more information than they had in the past. I think they gave the three tiers of the wait list a bit more to go off of, though they still remained vague regarding the high wait list. However, I'm sure their perspective on that list is vague too since they are waiting to see who accepts or declines their offers. I was encouraged by the tone of the email, which without actually saying it seemed to elude to the possibility of all high alternates being offered spots. (This could also be my interpretation...)

I was personally discouraged by the reminder that the next monthly email will be the final decision letter that comes in the first week of classes. Basically if any of us gets that email we will not be selected for the 2011 class and will get info regarding the early accept program for 2012. Let's hope none of us gets that email and we all hear from them in the coming weeks...or days!!

He did also inform us that region does play a roll, so I'm hoping that benefits CA residents at this point.

It seems like this thread has lost a little steam and people are getting tired. I am too. But, I am still standing tall and hoping to hear from them so I can get my career in medicine underway! I'm hopeful for all of you too!

Yep, my fingers have been crossed so long I'm developing a tan line! At this point I will read into anything on these emails. I will even pull a tone or implication from basic words like "the" or "and". =) But, I'm glad to hear you sensed an encouraging tone out of that email for us on the high list.

Each day we wait gets us closer to that glorious email that says "Congratulations, you can stop pulling your hair out. You are on your way to being a doctor!"
