For discussion of the school noted above. This includes interview dates, questions, etc. Threads will be merged in here if they are created on their own.

We are doing this to cut down on the traffic of threads so it makes it easier for people to find information about a school.

I didn't see a Touro discussion thread so maybe one of the mods can put this in one. So I got Touro-NV's secondary but they didn't have my MCAT score. This surprised me because their website says generally they look for at least a 23 MCAT and I only got a 22. If they didn't get my MCAT last week they should be receiving it this week. Now my question is, should I e-mail them and ask about this before I think about submitting it? What would I say, "I got a secondary with my low MCAT score and I'm wondering if it was a fluke"? I was waiting to complete it until I was sure that they weren't going to e-mail me again and tell me I didn't meet their qualifications. What would you do?

I would call them and let them know what happened, that you got the secondary before you got your MCAT score and now that you have your scores back if it is worth applying because you don't meet their minimum MCAT standard.

Fill out the secondary and submit. Don't worry about the MCAT score, they'll get it.

I just hope with my MCAT that I won't submit and then be rejected right away. I think I'll go ahead and contact the school. In the meantime I'll be trying to get my other secondaries finished then I'll work on that one. Thanks for the input!

So I just got an interview from TUCOM-NV. I have not selected a day yet and I am wondering what those who have interviewed there or currently go there think about the school. I've read the good and bad about having the entire school within one giant building, and I know they have not graduated a class yet but other than that I'm kind of in the dark. Are they affiliated with any hospitals in the area? 3rd & 4th years have to travel? Anything else of importance I should know? I haven't seen a whole lot of discussion about the school.

good luck... i'm interviewing 11/13, maybe i'll see you there. talking with mr. corbman, he told me there is a lot of clinical exposure in las vegas area hospitals/clinics, but that the could be expanding soon.

So I e-mailed Roger Corbman on 10/1 to ask if it was even worth it for me to apply. I got an automated response that he would be out until 10/8. I still haven't heard back from him so should I try to contact him again or does it usually take several days?

I would definitely call him and talk to him. He is very down to earth and willing to talk to anyone about their application. I am sure with all the interviews and applications coming through the school, he is very busy. But he will call or email you back. They have a quick turn around on decisions. If you interview on Monday or Tuesday, you will hear back from admissions (Roger) by Friday of their decision. PM me if you need any other info regarding applying, the interview, the school, etc. I just got accepted there and can give you the low down on everything. It's a really relaxed interview, and great facilities once you step inside.

When did you find out you were accepted?

I'm definitely starting to think that's the best route. I mainly try to e-mail schools because I'm home with my kids so I would rather not have them crying or screeching in the background. I have some clients to see this afternoon so I will probably wait until Monday. I don't want to waste $200 but if I have a chance there I want to get my secondary in as soon as possible.

I might recommend that you call either on Wednesdays or Fridays. They conduct interviews on Mondays on Tuesdays, and the admissions board meets on Thursdays to make decisions on those that interviewed. Wednesdays and Fridays are probably better days to call and get ahold of Roger there at the school. They only have about a third of their seats filled, so plenty of seats still available. Good Luck!

Thank you! I think I will try then.

I second this as well. He was by far one of the nicest people I met on the interview trail. That being said, send him another e-mail. I know he was out for a meeting, and the school was closed for 2 or 3 Thursdays in a row due to holidays. The e-mail might have gotten lost, or he may have just not gotten to it yet.

Okay here's the update. I e-mail Roger Corbman again to reask if it was worth submitting the supplemental app and to update my e-mail address. This was his reply: "Due to your MCAT score of 22, you will not receive a supplemental application. Thank you."

I replied that I think the confusion is that I already received the supplemental. So basically they sent it to me and now are taking it back. I admit I'm at least mildly ticked off but it saves my husband and I $200 in secondary fees. 😡

Ugh...I had my university's reference letter service send out letters a month ago and Touro-NV never received them...I just sent them again 😱

Does anyone know how long after completion they were invited for an interview?

Wow, what a fast turnaround 🙂. I've got an interview set up for late November.

Does anyone know what the rotations at Touro Nevada are like? I imagine good because the school is the only (medical) show in town. Someone authoritative please validate this supposition--only if true, I mean.

Hey guys, I figured I might be able to clear up some of your thought on TUNV. I am a first year here at TUNV and I was once in your shoes with the application. First, the admissions department is very on top of things, and if you feel that something has slipped by, don't hesitate to contact them. They are almost always helpful and will address any problems you may have. Secondly, we are affiliated with hospitals in the area. I think it is 3 possibly 4 (sorry I haven't done any rotations yet) and from my understanding all rotations that are mandatory will be held in the Las Vegas area (which is great if you have a family). Also, all hospitals are within a 15 minute drive and many are closer. An additional advantage to having enough spots for your rotations is that we won't need to travel in order to fill our mandatory rotations. Ofcourse you can do your elective rotations wherever you choose, but there are enough spots that if well all wanted to stay in LV for all of our rotations we could. The city is growing tremendously and the school continues to expand on their influence in this area. We are in the works of creating a public clinic that would cater to women and children (and serve as an educational opprotunity for the students). Third, I tend to like having everything "in-house" with regards to one large building. It is always easy to find faculty when you need, and it adds to the medical experience. Finally, the school is young, but we are a branch of TU-Mare Island, and our curriculm and performance mirrors and often surpasses this well established school.

If you have any questions please feel free to PM me.

Officially withdrew my acceptance offer a couple of days ago. I hope it goes to a fellow SDNr. The admissions committee was very nice and proffessional. The only beef I have is the $2000 within two weeks. Not very ethical, considering it goes against the guidelines set by AACOM.

Yeah, but unlike other schools, the deposit is 90% refundable.

Yeah, but unlike other schools, the deposit is 90% refundable.

Still, the rule book says Dec 15th. Touro-NV even admitted that the only reason why they give 90% back is because of state law. Touro-CA's is $2000 non-refundable. A bit unethical.

yeah, you know it, i sent my app from philly on monday, invited for an interview yesterday for early dec or so. Think i might pick the 4th of Dec. Anyone care to comment about the interview process?

i signed up for Dec. 4 interview as well. Maybe see ya there. I don't know very much about TUNV so if anybody else on here wants to elaborate that would be awesome.

Overall I was impressed with Touro-NV, but definitely not the best school out there. The day consists of some presentations, tour, interview (one interview 2 on one), and lunch with Roger. The impression I got of the best attributes of the school are probably the clinical rotations, chance to be involved in changes (the school is very young still), and the sweet anatomy lab.

Word on the street is that TUNV has a fair amount of time for out-rotations. You seem to have a lot of time for electives. Can anybody comment on this or any other school about the amount of time you get?

Moreover, I've heard they rotate on a monthly calendar basis. Is this true?

anybody interviewing tuesday, 11/13? 🙂

I interviewed at this school on October 16 and I will provide you with my take on the school. Albeit a bit biased, it is just my opinion. Take it for what you will.

The first thing I noticed about the school is that it is in a strange location. It appears to be, from the outside, a renovated car repair building or storage facility. There is only a small amount of parking around the front, but apparently there is more out back. The foyer reminds me of a lax corporation, a front receptionist with a glass meeting room behind her. Nice, but it does not remind me of a medical school. From the tour I felt like I was in some old middle school building. A small library, a small "computer lab," two very shallow lecture halls, etc. The walls felt very cluttered and I sometimes felt as if I was pressed between them. I will say that they have a very nice OMM and Disection lab, and are expanding their building soon. They should have a new Hitso lab soon, which will be great. All in all, I cannot say I was overly impressed with the facilities of TUCOM-NV.

The people were a different story. The students painted their love for the University eloquently and made it sound like TUCOM-NV was the place to be. Roger Corbman (like previously aforementioned) is wonderful. I wish they could clone him and place him at every University. He is helpful, nice, and to the point. Great, great guy!

My overall assessment is that TUCOM-NV is just another DO school that is extremely expensive ($72k per year). If you interview there, have a great time. The interviewers are very relaxed and there is no stress whatsoever. I hope everyone who loves this school gets in... I know my seat is now open ^.^

Good luck!

BCLumas is probably trying to quote the cost of tuition per year plus the estimated 26-27K for living/housing/transportation costs. But I think BCLumas is just a bit off on the estimate here. Costs are closer to 62K depending on how much you take out to cover these living costs.

the estimate was closer to $69k, and tuition was $35k, $18k for housing, etc.

18 k for housing? the average 1 bedroom condo in henderson rents at around 700, more like 625 for a studio....how is that 18 k per year? 69 sounds completely out of whack..I live in downtown chicago( by myself ), my tuition is 35 k for grad school, with rent it comes to 48ish, and with other random expenses and loans it lands at 55...even CCOM, wher tuition is 44 K, suggests students take a loan of roughly 60 k.
69 - 72 just seems crazy..

i know what you mean, i was kinda shocked when i saw the estimates too. I rented a studio last year in the john hancock building and was paying $1200 and thats still not $18k a year.

did touro automatically add in the gambling losses we're going to have due to bad tests? If that's the case, than I'd put it close to $100k per year on gambling debt alone, add in room, board, tuition, maybe $150k per year? does that sound right?

As a student at TUNV I don't know exactly where they are getting the 69k-72k, but this is a little over zealous. My wife and I have taken money just out for tuition and not for living "additional costs and living expenses." She makes about 45k a year and her income has be more than enough. I would say that on top of the money for tuition you would probably need an additional 18-20 thousand and this is probably a high estimate. Rent will run you anywhere from 700 to a 1000 a month and additional 500 a month would be plenty to live on. Thus 1000 (rent) + 500 additional (books, supplies, food, the occasional sports bet, etc) x 12 months would put you at 18,000 "additional necessary money." I agree the 72k is way over the top, and not necessary, least in my opinion. School should run about 52-55 with tuition and living expenses and supplies. Again, I don't know if someone guestimated the 72k or if someone from school told you that, but it is over the top.

I wish I hadn't thrown away my paper, but I think I found it on their website. For some reason, their projected cost is only $61k, but I am almost certain the cost was around $70k-$71k. If anyone has the correct financial aid papers, please correct any mistakes. This was taken off of the webpage, so it might be slightly incorrect...

Tuition/Fees- $35,715
Books/Supplies/Laptop/Medical Equipment- $5,442
Room/Board- $15,960
Personal- $2,280
Transportation- $2,157

Total $61,554

While I understand your situation, not everyone will be going into medical school with a spouse than can support them. You also have to figure in the first-year costs that many people could ultimately incur: health insurance, disability insurance, new computer, new furniture, etc. Many people have not lived off campus before. Myself personally, I have been an RA for 3 years, and as such have never lived outside of the dorms where all of my furniture was provided. I am now moving into an apartment complex where I will have to have pots, pans, dishes, silverware, detergent, vacuum, etc... These costs may be inconsequential on their own, but they can add up. That is why I feel there overall loan money has been estimated at $72k.

Just a thought, though...

Point well taken, but the fact still lies that there is no need to take out 72k each year. I understand that if someone hadn't lived on their own and didn't have furniture than there will be some expenses, but you won't be buying a new couch every year.

All I am trying to say is that TUNV is no more expensive, and is probably cheaper, than say Western, TU-MI and many of the other schhols. The tuition is probably similar but the cost of living here in Henderson is MUCH cheaper compared to Southern California or Northern California. For the same price you can rent a one bedroom apartment you could possibly purchase a condo or atleast rent a larger and nicer apartment.

Maybe the school is more liberal with their estimate than other schools, as I have talked to quite a few single first years in your position and I know they aren't even close to taking out 72k per year.

Agreed. At my TUNV interview they said it'd be about 60K a year. They also included facts and figures with their handouts, and I believe them.

As the tuition is around 34K a year, there is not way students would need another 38K to live a year. ALSO, touro's 62K factored in around 5K alone for car expenses (which I am sure most students would not require that much), so yes, I agree with Hanky that Touro was being liberal (which I think is a bonus, so you won't enter the program and then come up short).

Kudos to Touro's honesty.

just got my interview invitation today, the dates are wed and thursdays in Jan. this is my first interview invitation so far, and i was advised to schedule interviews in arround the same days with others so i won't be torn between paying the $2000 deposit or wait...

but now i am worry if i schedule a later date, that might decrease my chance of getting in... what should i do...i have to schedule it in 2 weeks

I was wondering the same thing. I was offered a spot in early Dec but due to limited vacation days I chose a late January date. I spoke with Roger Corbman who said that there will PLENTY of spots in January. So I don't think there are great disadvantages interviewing Jan or February.

If Roger said it, then it must be true ^.^ But with all due seriocity, that is probably a "mostly true" statement. I would say that the only disadvantage you would have is that there aren't as many spots open. I am sure there will be plenty of spots, especially since they require the 2-week turn around time. People they accept are constantly not accepting, leaving seats open for people who interview later. It is a pretty easy interview and you should definitely not worry about that. Bring some charisma, character, and a bit of passion and you should be fine. Good luck!

Has anyone had to reschedule, is it a problem????????

Has anyone had to reschedule, is it a problem????????

give the admissions office a call, they're usually willing to be flexible with you if it is a bonafide emergency. during the fires in san diego, i was evacuated and thought i might have to postpone my interview at AZCOM, which was just days away at that time.

be polite and courteous with them and they should be understanding.

seriocity isn't a word. The noun for the word serious is "seriousness". 🙄

You, sir, are indeed correct! The word "seriocity" was a word coined by an old old old old friend of mine back in my freshman year of high school. It was more of a joke for me rather than the rest of you all. I guess it would only make sense to me. Bad placement by me, I suppose.

Never forget, though.. Seriocity killed the cat.

hahaha, fair enough. grammar nazi lets you off the hook this time.

did anyone that interviewed here on the 12th of november get an acceptance or rejection yet? i was supposed to get an email on friday from roger but never got anything, i wonder if i got rejected, lol.

Go ahead and email him or call on Monday. I believe in my interview he mentioned if you wanted to find out either way you could let him know and he would pass on the decision once made. That should have been on Thursday...so I would definitely contact him this week and I'm sure he can tell you either way. Good Luck!
