I've been lurking on SDN for over a year now, and I finally have a question I hope you guys can help me with. I know the issue regarding legacy at private schools have been brought up in the past, but I wonder how important legacy is in the eyes of ADCOMS at Tufts. As you may have guessed, my father went there for dental school, and I was wondering exactly how this would impact me when I apply this summer. I guess my quesiton to students at tufts is, what percentage of the student body had parents who went there, if they do indeed favor these students what benefits does it do for the school, and will it compensate for mediocre grades? Sorry if these questions are naive, but just curious. Thanks.

I know a few students who had parents go through tufts. But all the students i met had competitive gpas and dat scores. What kind of grades are we talking about? I'm sure having a parent who went to tufts will only help, but you will need a solid application to back you up. There are lots of qualified individuals out there (based on stats) so I think you might need a decent gpa/dat to get in. And dont be scared at the stats posted on SDN, call up tufts and ask them what they're incoming stats were, this last year, tufts had the highest dat/gpa avgs for the incoming class in its history.

Our dental anatomy prof put it in an interesting way. He said "the seat that you are sitting in right now, is a seat that 20 other people could not get, and would kill for".

I know grades are the most important aspect, however, my gpa is definitely not competitve for Tufts, I have a 2.9 ish gpa. I know I probably have to get 20s to even have a shot there. Do you know any classmates that have subpar gpa but made it up with their DATs. Also, I know you gotta do extracurriculars, however, is there something that Tufts really look for? Thanks. 🙂

My gpa is worse 2.6 but since starting my postbacc on my own last year. I've been pulling As and A-s. Even if I got 20s across the board with the DAT it would look like I have to do something extra. How many students does Tufts interview every year? 500?

Yeah i am..sorry...its just that i teach a pre-dental class (check it out: http://www.sci.sdsu.edu/preprof/bio250b.html)....and the smart ass students say this to their class mates....i get so mad that i just want to take out my 45 and shoot them...J/K....BUT its ok..most of those students do drugs and think it wont effect their schooling or people wont tell on them in professional school...LOOK i am warning people RIGHT now "People who do DRUGS, stay the F*** away from me DURing Dental school or else I'll tell the police and get the school involved...i dont really care its that simple"...(I had a friend get killed during a drug deal..this is why I AM CRAZY! )
