I have been accepted to three schools: NYU, Tufts, and Pittsburgh
I am having a lot of trouble deciding and any feedback/help will sincerely be appreciated please... I am also a NY resident.
I know there are no rankings for dental schools, but how would you rank these schools? Thank you.

Having attended Pitt for the last year and a half, I'd rank it high on my list, and having had NYU misspell my name, and thus not be able to find my DAT scores, not telling me until January, I'd rank it low - but I'm a bit biased in that reguard! 😀

All 3 are quality schools which are slightly different - if you search for previous posts by me, you'll find lots of details about what I think about Pitt - in a few words, I think it's a great school, and I don't regret my decision of picking it over other schools.

Good luck!

Thanks for your help. I will keep that in mind. Btw, I noticed that you were a dental assistant before you entered dental school. Do you think having the knowledge and skill as a dental assistant significantly helped you in dental school? Or would it be more beneficial to do something else with your time before dental school? Thanks again!

I think the biggest benefit of being a dental assistant was being able to get exposure to the profession in a significant way. For this reason, I highly recommend it if you're able to. It's all well and good to want to do dentistry, but if you don't shadow enough, you don't really know if it's really for you.

As far as in dental school, it helped a little bit, especially having been exposed to patient care previously, but not to any huge advantage than the students who weren't assistants.

Oh, and a good use of spare time before dental school is relaxing and having fun, because you don't get nearly enough of it DURING dental school! ;p

we were in the same situation last year! Got accepted to NYU, Tufts, and Pitt. and choose Pitt. It was a hard decision between Tufts and Pitt for us. NYU was just not our cup of tea. We made the decision based on $$ and where we would like to live and opportunities, among many other factors. Getting to and from school took a lot more time at tufts and NYU, we didnt not want to live in the city. We live outside of Pitt and LOVE IT! only 25 min to school. School is very involved and really has a good family/support feel. I think it is one of a kind. There is my two cents.
