So I would've asked this in the VMCAS section but Tufts uses its own application website so I figured I'd make this it's own thread.

Anyway...

Just signed up for the Embark application website for Tufts. I received an e-mail saying that this version of the application was for fall 2010 enrollment, not 2011. Does anyone know when the newer version of the website will be up and running? And if I start filling stuff out now, will the information transfer to the 2011 version? There's no indication on the application itself that this isn't for 2011, but the confirmation e-mail said otherwise so I'm a bit confused. I also don't want to start filling things out if they change some stuff for the 2011 applicants... Any advice would be super appreciated!

EDIT: I'm also unable to open the PDF file under the "instructions" tab on one of the opening application pages... a little blurb pops up with a blue question mark but with no writing in the blurb box...?

I don't believe it will transfer no. The 2011 Application should be up pretty soon. I had similar problems with reading the PDFs. What browser/version of Adobe/operating system are you using?

Oh okay. So I won't waste my time starting on that application yet and instead I'll continue plugging stuff in on the VMCAS for my other school.

Google chrome, adobe acrobat pro 9, windows 7. I couldn't find anywhere on Tufts' website about when the new application would be open? Maybe I'm just blind haha, but it would be nice to know a certain date 🙂

When I applied a couple of years ago, the new application went up in early August. I'd already entered some basic info, which transferred to the new app without a problem. If you're not sure this will happen, however, you may want to contact Admissions or simply check back in a couple of months.

Good luck! :luck:

I would call and check because I know there was some sort of issue dealing with the LORs and filling out the "old" application before the transfer. Other than that, I think all the other information does transfer over to the new application when it is opened.

ETA: and I'm pretty sure some of the essays change from year to year

I would e-mail Tufts directly. But I seem to remember that the application opens in July. I don't think anything you fill out will transfer automatically.

I remember seeing somewhere on the website that the app would come up early July.
On the topic of Tufts, I'm hesitant to apply there because of the LORs they ask for - one should be a faculty advisor from within your department... I'm from a huge school with a huge bio department and we really don't establish relationships with any of the higher up people. Do you know if they would go for one prof and two vets like most schools, or is this a pretty strict thing?

For Embark in general, your basic information (name/address/schools attended/etc) will be saved in your profile when you register for an institution and is transferable. This I know at least from applying to some Ph.D. programs that used this system.

If it's going to be a problem, call and talk to them - I ended up with one vet, one professor (gen chem), and the VP of my undergrad institution writing LORs for Tufts. Their admissions people are SUPER nice and helpful, and they will absolutely give you feedback on what to do in this situation.

Also, last year I started on the '09 app and all of my info transferred to the 2010 when it opened. But again, call and talk to admissions.

They want two academic sources, for sure. I called them last year about that. They recommended getting another professor if I didn't have an adviser to write one for me. Assuming nothing has changed since last year, they definitely do not want two vets with only one professor.
