Has anyone heard if Tufts has sent any acceptances recently, or should we assume that 'before May 15' really means on May 15? Also, does anyone have any idea if Tufts has already filled its class and will send out tons of waitlist letters to those in the 'hold' category?

I'm getting fed up with this wait, but Tufts is my first choice so I continue to put up with it (but not much longer, hopefully).

no word yet. i've been on hold forever and i interviewed the second or third week of november. i'm totally tired of waiting to hear from them but i'm not withdrawing. they are going to just have to make up their minds either way.

i'm on hold at tufts too.

my friend is a first year at tufts and he has not come across a single person who got in regular admission.

i've also heard that there are 3 acceptances to 1 spot so there should be lots of turn over.

i don't know why tufts does this on hold thing, i don't know if it's quite fair to the applicants. makes planning very difficult.

"my friend is a first year at tufts and he has not come across a single person who got in regular admission"

wow that says a lot - apparently tufts just hopes that some of those really qualified applicants who actually get an outright acceptance will actually go there. well i'm not going anyway.

I just got accepted to their MD/MBA program. Maybe it has something to do with the 4 page letter of interest I wrote to them. But I wouldn't worry - 40% of those who are interviewed get accepted and I think this year they are increasing the # of waitlisted candidates to prevent the class from filling early on. Good luck!

well, since their last interview date is april 29, maybe there will be some more movement soon. i still don't understand their on hold system.

i think it's kinda unfair. why can't they just decide?

I've just withdrawn my acceptance to Tufts. I've spent a good deal of time working the past few years with Tufts med students, and let me tell you, I'd estimate--in addition to their own accounts--that most of them came off the hold list, so try not to worry too much. There will be plenty of movement after May 15. Good luck to you all.

To correct Lancer_VII, According to USNEWS, 2002 applicants 775 interviewed, 525 accepted. That's a 68% acceptance rate. In state odds are even better: 78%. Out of state 64%. Any way you look, the odds are on our side.

i'm at tufts and i'd estimate from talking to people that about 1/3 to 1/2 of my class came in off the waitlist, and that another 1/4 or more were directly admitted in April or May. Most matriculants who get in early are MD/MBA or BA/MD via Tufts or Brandeis undergrad programs (~15-20 in each class).

a friend of mine recently talked to a 3rd year at Tufts who spelled out some problems the school has had lately. Apparently New England Medical Center (Tuft's flagship teaching hospital) has been having finacial problems lately (nearly bankrupting itself) and has not contributed any $$ to medical student education. NEMC has basically broken all financial ties to the school. This is why the tuition is now so high (highest of any private school I believe). Also, the current dean, who the 3rd yr said was student friendly and pushed to get a freeze on tuition hikes, is leaving soon and tuition may start going up again.

all this info is 2nd hand so if anyone knows better, please post.

I'm worried because i feel i might have to soon make a quick decision between Jefferson and Tufts. Tufts is better for very practical reasons relating to my personal situation and has a more recognisable name (and higher rep among residency directors), but I must say Jeff beats Tufts in terms of $$, community, living situation, their finances seem stable. For one reason or another 1 of 2 accepted students choose Jeff, while 1 out of 3 choose Tufts. Needless to say its a hard decision. Anyone with insights into either school i would love to hear what you think.

first off...the rumor about nemc wanting to break ties w/ tufts is totally not true...they actually just merged.

secondly, i too would be making the decision b/w tufts and jefferson if tufts would ever take me out of this "no decision" category. Has anyone followed up with the admissions office after being put in this category? i've sent them a letter updating my credentials since the amcas application and also stating that if i got in to tufts i'd go there. i haven't had the nerve to actually call them to see whats up w/ my application though...anything else i can do?

I talked with someone at the admissions office and according to them, they expect to mail out letters telling those applicants who are in the "hold" category of their fate by this friday (5/9). Meaning, there could be a lot of acceptances offered in the coming week. Good luck everyone. 🙂

Ummm.... and REJECTIONS too!

I have a bad feeling....

Hey guys

I just called admissions, gave them my SSN, and the lay said that a decision has been made (I'm right now in the delayed decision pool) and that a letter will be mailed tomorrow. Now, I asked if it was good news, and she couldn't tell me...and she had a real monotone voice so it was really really hard to judge what the decision said on her computer screen. AHHHHH
can someone else call and see if you can get other info from admissions??

expecting a waitlist, dreaming of an acceptance

oh my god, that post, bigredstress, just made me nauseous. dammit, i bet i am rejected.

AHHHHHHH!!!!!

I am in boston, think i coudl drive over and pick it up? 😉

(partially serious)

seriously, this is so lame, i can understand not telling epople by phone a few months ago when the process was ongoing but say i am accepted i have 2 days to decide? they should do phone decisions at this point in the game.

Yea this really sucks....
at least tufts is on the ball...
downstate and temple (both of whom i just called) where im on 'hold' as well are still in the dark... argh
no respect.

praying for tufts....

as of now, upstate medical here I come.
Thank God for that one at least.

Ok I know this is a question that no one can really answer (except perhaps tufts students) but about how many people do they reject at this point in the game: post interview, on hold...

I would feel relativly secure on their waitlist but I am just so scared about a rejection....

argh, i can't decide whether or not to call...

well, perhaps i should call just to check which address it's gonna be sent to... i recently updated my address with them, tho i don't know if it trickled through the system yet!

good luck to all!

ive already decided that im too much of a wuss to call up tufts...its too late by now they've made all their decisions probably. i too am very scared about a rejection but i wouldnt be upset w/ a w/l otehr than i've already been waiting since f'n december. eh either way i'll be happy cuz jeff is a great school too but i just want to know what city im going to be living in this fall! this no decision category really sucks!

just called. same spiel as before, decision to be mailed tomorrow to my preferred address rather than permanent. my change in address email (sent yesterday) will take a few days to take effect.

good luck everyone!

Good luck to all those in the delayed decision catergory who will be hearing from Tufts soon!
Has anyone that interviewed in April have any hope for a waitlist spot??!! I am not looking forward to getting that letter!!!

Yup..I e-mailed the admissions office and they said that they had mailed letters today...and that I'd be getting an e-mail from the admissions director...
Scary!
Good luck!

Sorry...that message was redundant! I guess ya'll knew that the letters were gonna be mailed out today!

an email from the admissions director? have you received it already? (and if you have, what does it say, if you don't mind my asking?)

No I haven't gotten it yet. I think it has something to do with either..."you suck..sorry we can't accept or waitlist you.." or "oh you've been waitlisted..make sure you let us know if you want to stay on the waitlist..."
I don't think I'll be the only one getting an e-mail...I'm sure a lot of us will...unless ofcourse I'm getting the boot..then it'll only be me..🙁
I'll keep ya'll posted!

Have a good weekend

Sorry for posting multiple times, but I recieved this e-mail before my interview at Tufts from the director of admissions (I'm sure everyone did).
Maybe I'll get the same e-mail again.
I hope I'm not breaking any laws by posting this e-mail here!!
Here it is:

The TUSM Office of Admissions has developed a Web site specifically for selected applicants to the TUSM Class of 2007.

The information on the site is organized by its relevance for applicants in four status categories:

* Applicants who have been selected to interview at Tufts
* Applicants who have already interviewed
* Wait-listed applicants
* Accepted applicants

We hope that our selected applicants will find the information available on this site helpful.

The TUSM Selected Applicant Web site is located at:

www.tufts.edu/med/admissions/selected

Please bookmark the Selected Applicant site home page.

Please note that the TUSM Selected Applicant Web site is not intended for public viewing. There are no links from the main Admissions Web site to the Selected Applicant site, and the Selected Applicant home page does not appear in the site map of the main site.

I welcome any comments, suggestions, or feedback on the Selected Applicant site. Please e-mail me at [email protected].

Best wishes,

Thomas M. Slavin
Director of Admissions
TUSM

i don't know if they'll just send the same email again...but in any case, i definitely hope it's good news for you. i hope to get in to!!! have you sent letters of intent and everything?

Nope, no letter of intent yet. I did send them my spring grades and if I get waitlisted, I will be withdrawing my letter of intent to another school and will hopefully be able to send one in to Tufts.
Good Luck to you too!!
I hope its good news for all of us!

Lpgovard, I don't think you can withdraw a letter of intent. Its like saying you promised, but didn't really mean it.

However, if the school you already wrote the letter of intent for rejects you, then sure you can write a new letter.

Good luck to everyone who'll be waiting by the mailbox on Monday. Just a word of caution....don't be like me and get all excited when you see the big envelope. Mine was an offer for a position on their waitlist.

It felt good to be accepted there........for a few seconds!

did you just receive your decision today?

OH great!! I don't think I'm going to be rejected from the school I wrote the letter of intent to, but since then I've been accepted elsewhere (slightly better in my opinion..). From my understanding, I thought you could send a letter of intent to one school and if you get a better offer withdraw that letter. I know its unethical..blah blah...but when I wrote the letter of intent, I had no other options. I'm sure they know that things change. Maybe I'll be barred from applying for residency there if I don't keep my "promise." I didn't even have an invitation to interview at Tufts when I wrote that letter!!!
Oh well, maybe Tufts will waitlist me and never take me off of it and then I won't have to make a choice at all...and that would be very very depressing!
I just know I'd much rather be in Boston than anywhere else!
We'll see. Sorry for the long ass post! I know I know...it has nothing to do with the original post.
Good Luck again!
I hope some of us will be hearing good news soon!

hi,

got my waitlist letter today (i live near chinatown). 🙁

EMTji,

Congrats on the waitlist! Now you have a 50% chance of being accepted!! That's exciting! Don't give up dude! Thats still awesome.

I got waitlisted! Did anyone get in??

When does the waitlist begin to move? The letter says we have 2 weeks to respond.. so I am guessing the waitlist will start to move in the beginning of June....

It would have been nice to be done with the process by now!!
5 waitlists.....

i'm waitlisted too!

they put me on hold all this time just to waitlist me.

i don't know bout the rest of you guys, but i'm just really annoyed at the tufts process. they have to get off their high horses and stop accepting everyone who gets into harvard and yale. =P maybe that way they'll get a better than 1 out of 3 matriculation rate which is totally insane. =P

anyway, waitlist comes in a large envelope, but thin.

Ahh...man! Sorry to hear about the waitlists guys..
I'll probably get the waitlist or the reject letter tommorrow. I wonder what the dean will e-mail us about.

I received an acceptance letter yesterday...with an address update form that reads, "Please let us know where you would like us to send your mail this summer and in particular, where you would like the Bursar to send your tuition bill." Yikes - that tuition bill is what scares me most about Tufts! Good luck to everyone who is still waiting to hear and to everybody on the waitlist.

Anyone get rejected?

waitlist for me too.

ok, back to waiting....

so what do you guys think- when is the next time they meet? I say 2 weeks or so. I think the 1st week of June they will start pulling people off. I just gave up seats at two schools today so i think there is probably alot of movment going on right before May 15th.

anyone in california receive their decision from tufts yet?

As a cali res, no news yet from Tufts but it could be coming in today. I hope it's good news.

schweeeeet i got waitlisted. does anyone other than me find it absolutely ridiculous and annoying to be put in a "no decision" category and wait every week for a response from tufts and not get one until the middle of may that you have to wait some more? something has got to change w/ this school's admissions process. im still gonna wait though cuz im cool like that i guess...if not im packing up and moving to philly in july! anybody else choosing b/w jeff and tufts?

howdy, i was in the no decision category but i just heard that i got accepted, but don't worry, i'm not going (way too much money) so maybe one of you will get my spot.

Waitlist it is! Oh well...Tufts is worth the wait.
Those of you who got accepted-CONGRATS-I was wondering whether those of you who got accepted came off the no decision category.
To those of us who are wailisted: we now have a 50% chance of getting accepted. That's pretty good right?
Take care!
Don't be too bummed!

i just got in off that dumb hold catagory too. tufts really needs to revamp their admissions process - it's pretty rediculous. i said no and i hope one of you guys gets it. good luck!

so i just got my waitlist letter. when my dad started reading the thing to me over the phone, he got to the part where it reads, "we would like to invite you to join..." and i thought that i had gotten in--and for a single moment in time, i felt at peace with the world. and then he finished the line, and i realized that it was just another waitlist. maybe to some of you guys the waitlist is a good thing, but to me, it's just number 5 on the list of schools that are gonna keep me restless and depressed for another 3 months.

is the thing even ranked? will we even know if we have a decent shot of getting in? i feel like even if it were 50%, i could still be on the bottom of that list...

this entire process sucks, and now i have to attempt to study for finals this week, which i still have to ace, considering i need to turn these grades in...

sorry guys, i'm just venting. but i'm pissed!
