update from admin: 150 seats confirmed w/ deposit as of Wednesday. I'm sure they'll reach their target class size (155) and then some by Thursday. Waitlist situation pretty bleak. Anyone planning on going who hasn't paid their deposit?

Thats good that the class size is close to the target. Dr. Beckman was a little worried for a while that not enough people wold withdraw.

I am. How do you know this, btw? Dr. Beckman told me: "we have more deposits than we care for", but she was shocked that so many people had sent them in without financial aid packages. Still no financial aid. What a rip.

🙁 Well, no gumbo for the waitlisters.

you might wanna consider sending it, like, today.

I talked to the financial aid lady and she said they were going to send out e-mails about packages today. So hopefully we should hear soon.

Hi,
I'm a soon to be 4th year. I'm looking for a roommate for a 2BR/2bath on 3625 ST. CHARLES AVE. That's right, St. Chuck. It's an apt complex right in front of Superior Grill. Super cheap, right on the parade route, really a great deal. I'm looking for a roommate to MOVE IN for June. This place is available immediately. So I would prefer a roommate who is looking to move in for the beginning of June. PM me if you're interested. It seems this would suit all you guys who are coming down here for the summer to start MPH classes.

Also, you would only really need to furnish your bedroom. There is some furniture in the living room already, but it's not mine, it's the landlady's. At the end of June (when I finally have a decent sized break from rotations), I'm going to bring back all my pre-Katrina furniture, which is now in Baton Rouge

Later.

when are you gonna be down here? It's like a 10 min drive to med school, and trust me it's a perfecet spot for first year students. First and second year is when you have the most free time at Tulane. You'll be next door to hot spots like the Columns Hotel, and Superior Grill. 5 min drives to the Balcony and Bulldog, and of course you'll be living like a king when Mardi Gras comes around. You don't get to appreciate how great the location is until Mardi Gras rolls around. While many people are trying to get to the parades, you just chill, and the parade comes to your front door. Need to use the bathroom?? (Big issue during Mardi Gras)...You're place is right there. Hopefully, I've sold this place enough. PM me if interested.

Even though I prefer someone moving in right away, if you can't make it for June, and need it for July, PM me we can talk about it.

For everyone waiting for the waitlist. I went to the admissions office today. Dr. Beckman told me they are all full, they are now turning down deposits. I asked if it would be possible that people back out on their deposits, she said of course it's possible and to check back in two weeks. That's the story I got, anyone have anything else?

how can tulane turn down deposts?

I don't think they can do that saying that if you have been given an acceptance and the letter says you have till May 15th to pay your deposit. Maybe Dr. Beckman was reffering to people on the waitlist perhaps trying to give a deposit?

I know it doesn't really make sense either way.

she probably meant people turning in deposits after may 15th. cuz today's may 15th. so after today she will be turning down deposits. the class is definitely way full. she asked a friend of mine to defer for a year. she said no, but still a strange request.

Oh jeez, I wonder how many of us there will be next year?! Is anyone concerned about this? I am so f'ing relieved that this process is over! I got my financial aid at like 8 PM last night (via email from Tulane) and promptly withdrew from the other school I was still holding on to. I guess I was just scared to only hold Tulane's acceptance without seeing what my loan package would look like. I know it's all pretty standard, but still. So yes. Tulane all the way. Wow. AWESOME. Mota, I feel like you havent discovered somforum, is this possible?

Is tulane taking a smaller class this year or what?

I figured with the situation down in New Orleans, alot of applicants would be turned away.

No the class size is supposed to be the same (150-155), oddly enough over 7,200 people applied (up from last year), and less people were backing out than normal. So class size didn't go down at all, just the number of people who really want to go went up, go figure.

Sorry to cause such a stir. I honestly can't say what Dr. Beckman meant by turning down people, obviously they can't turn down accepted people. I really didn't talk to her for too long, I was just trying to give everyone a general update, so I would think to take the comment with a grain of salt and not worry about it. Enjoy the summer weather

Bump
Just had to get this thread back up in the order.

and on a wholly unrelated note:

I am not worried that the levys are legit, I know they ain't; but I'm going down regardless. It will take time for them to be re-built and ultimately redesigned, but that will take years for the project to be completed. NOLA has the national attention now and hopefully the mistakes that were made in the past will be righted and remembered in the future. I am very optimistic and happy to be going to new orleans, but its going to be a long road to get things where they should be. Good things have a way of coming out of horrible events.

I'm in Germany now....I wouldn't mind meeting up with some future classmates in Europe (Amsterdam anyone 😀 ?)

Hey for anyone living in Deming- Are you planning on bringing and of your own furniture?

Also are the dates we put on our Deming application binding? I think it will be cool to live there for a semester to get to know people, but would like to move to a better spot later in the year.

Just make sure you have your own evacuation plan all worked out. You should all expect to take quite a few roadtrips this hurricane season, even the smaller storms will bring about evacuations and there will likely be at least a few scares.

Thats definately a good idea. My plan involves making friends with someone with a car.

Has anyone else had no luck in signing onto www.somforum.com. I tried to establish an account several times over the past few weeks with both my yahoo.com and virginia.edu addresses but it never lets me view any forums/post. What gives?

i'm a frequent viewer, but new poster to this thread and i've been accepted to the class of 2010. i'm glad we get a chance to go tubing. if anyone is going to be here during the summer, pm me and we can do something

Have you guys found housing yet?

Housing right now is a bit tight and the prices have gotten quite high. As you can see from the forum in the link off the Tulane site, and in Craig's List.

I was not accepted to the Tulane program for the 2006 entering class, but I live Uptown near the University, so if any one has any questions about where to live, where to eat, What kind of tolls do you have to pay on the Cresent City Connection and over the Causeway, or etc. PM me. 😉

Does anyone know of people still holding on for the Tulane waitlist movement like myself?
Along the same lines, does anyone know someone with a Tulane acceptance who is still trying to decide between schools?
Just wondering...

yep, that would be me.

last i heard was that beckman said that the class was still overbooked. so the waitlist has not moved yet.

i'm still on the waitlist at my top choice in nj... i'm on the high priority there and hold an acceptance to tulane. once i get into my top choice off that waitlist, i will withdraw from tulane on the same day. hope that helps.

Yup, Im still holding on to Tulane, and two others for waitlist action to get in, but was really hoping for Tulane, but it is looking bleak.

From Susana (albeit secondhand info): Class at 166 right now. Doubt that waitlist will be touched for a while.

Why would it not be touched for a while? Thats only 11 people they need to lose and its still the beginning of June, other waitlists are still active and decisions being made.
