Tulane?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
thats the thing and I did call them two days and tried multiple extensions and I kept getting sent back into the automated system once each person didnt pick up...i'll try calling again this week...this is just kinda frustrating

what number did you call? Or who did you talk to in particular?

Interviewed Jan 30, waitlisted 2/19 🙁🙁🙁

Does anyone ever get off this list?

Accepted!

It took an extra year, an SMP, and 1000 posts, but it was all worth it.

Now I just need to stock up on beads

Congratulations!!! See you in August!

has anyone tried to contact tulane recently...now that the red EMAILS have stopped?

Yeah! I have been wondering about the same thing. If I don't hear anything by the end of the week, I am going to freak out, seriously!😱

I spoke to a lady in admissions last Friday about the email, and she told me that Tulane was making decisions on applications and that we would be notified by snail mail when they came to a decision, which I guess is a nice way of saying that we've all been rejected. However, I have not received my thin envelope yet.

So it seems like applications to Tulane have doubled since last year and the admissions office is pretty busy trying to figure things out. I have to wonder, for those of us on the acceptance range list, does that mean that there is less of a chance of being accepted post-waitlist? I'd like to know if people are being rejected or is everyone being put on this AR list.

8300 applications this year, up from 6800 pre-storm

My acceptance last November (Hurray!) was a thin envelope...so you don't really know either way until you open it! 😱

i hate the thin envelope acceptances. so scary! how long did it take after your interview until you received your decision?

It took three weeks...the amount of time I was told at the interview. When did you interview there?

Hey guys,

Rejected on Saturday, via e-mail. Nice thing to wake up to in the morning, but it's also nice to know that someone's working in the Tulane office on the weekends. I hope everyone else has better luck.

Hey if any of you have facebook and are going to be attending Tulane I made a group Tulane School of medicine class of 2012. I figured we could get a group started and make it official! Congrads everyone!

I was curious if anybody accepted did the Anatomy certificate program at Tulane?

There's already a group -- I would tell you exactly what it's called but i'm abstaining from facebook for a week... which has been pathetically harder than I anticipated.

I think its Tulane Medicine 2012.

see you this summer!

Q: are they still sending interview invites?

Unfortunately, no more interview invites as far as I can tell.

Q: does anyone get rejected post-interview, or do they all go to the acceptance range?

BUMP
Sooo, any news about how the acceptance range list is lookin' this year? I am hoping for movement!

I was told to email them after May 15 to see how many they can take. So I guess they are probably waiting until the deadline to take people off the "acceptable range"

Tulane's waitlist hasn't moved after May 15th for the past two years. I'm praying to everything that is holy that this is not the case this year.

We shall soon find out.

Hey All,

I'll be withdrawing from Tulane...so hopefully one of you guys gets my spot! It was a tough decision...Tulane is awesome!

I just withdrew from tulane, it was hard to turn them. I hope one of you gets my spot. Good luck

Just out of curiosity, what other waitlists are y'all in?

Tulane. But it is my number one choice, so the decision will be an no brainer if they decide to pull me off.

Anyone hear anything about the waitlist situation this year yet?

The dean says it's "It's a bit tight for spots this year"

Who did you hear this from? Dr. Kahn? Dr. Beckman? Sorry to just jump in on this. I'm also waiting to here from Tulane and can't stand the uncertainty of it all.

Gluck to everyone still waiting to here from Tulane!

When I talked to her I was under the impression that chances of getting in off the "acceptance range" list were still possible. Although I haven't heard anything in about 3 weeks, so I don't know how numbers have been looking recently. Hopefully it all works out in the end for everyone.

If you want the big picture, 2 years ago the number of applicants doubled. This year, the number doubled again.
They are overwhelmed right now, but I expect a few spots will open, just not the traditional 1/3 of the class from the waitlist you hear about at ,most schools.

I say have faith but have a backup plan.

Not the news I was hoping for. Overwhelmed for the third year in a row! I hope some of us on the acceptance range list get offers! This is the only waitlist (no acceptances) I am on.

malsponge-

I'd suggest emailing beckman a loi (interest or intent) even if you've already sent one in and try to keep in contact with her every month if tulane is really where you'd like to be whether this cycle or next

Thanks for the input. Unfortunately the last two times I have e-mailed her she hasn't gotten back to me. I even interviewed with her! But, she is no doubt very busy. I have a second letter written and ready to go as soon as I get my most recent grade (any hour now).

Sorry I delayed until so late, but I was out of the country for two weeks and wanted to see my financial aid letter first ($68,642.00!). I'll be withdrawing from Tulane tomorrow, and hope one of you gets some great news soon!

I know attending Tulane would be an absolutely fantastic experience, and I'm so jealous of those of you attending! If only we could attend more than one school - perhaps the first two years at one, and then third and fourth years at two others. I think the camaraderie, community service focus and top-notch clinical opportunities are exceptional at Tulane. Ah, and then there's N'awlins.... 😀

EDIT: Someone just emailed asking me for a breakdown of the fin aid I received. Here's the total for the year:

$8,500 - Fed Sub Stafford
$32,000 - Fed Unsub Stafford
$28,142 - Supplemental Loan Eligibility (I assume this is like GradPlus or a certified loan)
TOTAL: $68,642

The breakdown is:

$47,234 - Tuition/Fees
$13,030 - Housing/Meals
$1,500 - Books/Supplies
$3,016 - Transportation
$3,862 - Personal Expenses
TOTAL: $68,642

Ahhhh, thanks for posting Phoenix! A glimmer of hope as the waiting continues....

If I remember correctly, this is exactly the breakdown they give on the website...

So if spots do open up, do you think they will fill them ASAP? Or take their time to meet and fill them come June? I can't stop speculating!

Does anyone have Dr. Beckman's email address? I called and withdrew from Tulane by phone yesterday, but they asked me to send an email to Dr. Beckman today. I don't have her email address, can't find it on the web site, and the office is closed for the day. Thanks!

For those of you on the waitlist, good luck! :luck:
