Tulane?

acceptance range... 3rd waitlist in 3 days.. it doesn't count for anything that i work for a nonprofit that rebuilds Katrina-damaged homes for poor people???

Errrrr.... I hate to say this, but I fear it might be your interviewing skills? Obviously I can't be sure, but that would be my guess. Your stats and ECs from your mdapps are GREAT. No problems there. And your personal statement and LORs were probably fine given that you got a bunch of interviews. Given your three waitlists in three days, it sounds like it might be your "interview skills" that are holding you back. How did you feel you did at those interviews? If you feel you did well and developed a good rapport with the interviewer, is there anything else you can think of? Did you perhaps not talk about why you would like to go to each school or seem enthusiastic enough? Otherwise, I have no idea. :luck:

yea, this is what i'm terrified of. i honestly thought i was a pretty good interviewer. my student interview at tulane especially, we talked about how exciting it was to be in the middle of new orleans when there was so much good work to be done and i thought it went really well. apparently i was wrong. this is really killing me because most of my interviews are done and apparently i've been doing something wrong all along. thanks for the support.

But what about your faculty interviews at Tulane and the other schools? Do you think that you have a problem connecting with older/faculty interviewers?

I thought it went pretty well with the first guy; we had a good conversation about New Orleans and its future and all that. The second guy talked more about himself than me, but I didn't think it went badly. Other places, I dunno. I certainly don't think I bombed any of them.

Dunno about anyone else, but Tulane might consider you "overqualified" (read: will accept another offer)...

dude... i'm in the same boat. i've been waitlisted at tulane, rochester, AND gw in the past three days. i'm just not sure what's going on. i was sort of expecting the rochester waitlist because i might have been able to do better in the faculty interview. but i felt really really good about all of my interviews at tulane and gw, loved both of those schools, and am sure i talked about how well i fit the schools and why i loved them. i think i have good interview skills. i just don't know what i'm doing wrong.

I was accepted at tulane and was waitlisted at rochester and gw. I thought I did really well at the interviews at rochester and gw, but didn't make it. And I actually thought I did poorly at the interview at tulane, but got in. Tulane was the last place from where I expected to get an acceptance. I really wonder what's going on..

i really made an effort to talk about how much i loved living/working in the new orleans area and how i'd want to continue to be involved in relief efforts as a student. and i was being genuine; tulane is one of my top choices!!

same here. i really am a social, outgoing person, and i thought i interviewed well. i'm sorry you're sharing my bad fortunes, but i guess it's nice to see i'm not the only one.

So I really really want to call tomorrow to ask about my decision (interviewed 10/12)...what if I played naive, "You've discontinued the status check?! I had no idea." 😀

Ok, so I gave in and called...but apparently my status has remained unchanged which she assumed that I haven't even gone to committee yet! Whew. I was getting really scared since there was someone who interviewed the same day who has already received word. There is still hope for me!! C'mon Tulane!!! 😍

anyone know how often tulane sends out interview invites?

I got accepted yesterday (10/30) by snail mail to Tulane. I interviewed 10/10. Good luck to all!!

Congrats! I apparently got bumped into the next committee meeting...does anyone know what day they meet on? So I have an idea of when I should call next...😉

The packet that I got from the interview says that they meet weekly. I interviewed on 10/12, and my student interviewer told me that I will hear back in about 3 weeks due to a large number of applications. (Though I found out in 11 days by calling in) Keep your hopes up, you might hear some good news later this week. 🙂

Has anyone who got accepted on the 15th or whenever still not gotten their packet?

I haven't and it wouldn't bother me except for the fact that flaahless said he/she got some $$$ and now It's driving me insane and I check the mail box three times a day. I've already asked Tulane to send me another packet and still nothing but it's bc the first address was incorrect. I think I'm going to go nuts.
...

just wanted to vent my anxiety with the rest of the type-A/OCD/SDN headcases like myself

I think flahless got the scholarship with the initial acceptance letter, not in any subsequent packet.

Anyway, I think my acceptance letter was dated 10/15 or 10/17 (don't remember) but I haven't gotten any packet....

just called. Accepted!!

Even though I interviewed 10/4, they said my letter was just sent in the mail a few days ago.

Hopefully, you guys will hear something soon too.

DianaUT06, there's hope!

Congrats, Jolie! And thanks, I think I'll try and hold out until sometime next week to try calling again. 😉

Thanks, Diana

I guess it just goes to show you that decisions don't necessarily happen based on when you interviewed. i guess they didn't decide on me until this week or last.

man, i was convinced i was waitlisted.

Yeah I haven't even gotten a letter, all I have is a phone call made on the 16th...aww Hamburgers!!

hi, for those who called today - what number did you call? I thought they discontinued the status check..
Thanks in advance.

I think they disconnected it as in they don't want people doing it.. not that they actually disconnected the number.. someone correct me if i'm wrong.

I rarely use any sort of smiley face icon thing...but I think today I will make an exception...

😀😱😀😱 I GOT THE OFFICIAL ACCEPTANCE LETTER IN THE MAIL TODAY!!!

Tulane was my very first rejection, got it via snail mail this weekend, post-secondary (no interview). Does anyone know if they prefer ties to the area or that sort of thing? just trying to figure out where on my application i could have done better/differently, where i went wrong.

As you acknowledge in your mdapps, your gpa could be better. Regardless, I would suggest just moving on since you already have a bunch of great interviews, acceptances, and mention on mdapps that you wouldn't have gone to the Tulane interview anyway (albeit for financial reasons). Congrats on your other interviews and acceptances. Perhaps Tulane just figured you would go elsewhere.

EDIT: Also, keep in mind that this process can be pretty random, and that you shouldn't expect to get invites from everywhere. Just chalk this up to the process and move on. If you had NO invites so far, I could understand a little better why you posted that.

I'm not totally miserable over it, but i would like to know where i go wrong in each application so that i can fix it for the rest of the cycle, and make myself the most appealing candidate that i can for the rest of interviews and update letters/letters of intent or interest. While my GPA is a weakness i can't do too much about at this point in the application process (although i am in a postbacc program), catering my apps to individual schools and selling myself is something that i can always work on, so that's what i'm trying to figure out. I understand that i've done well so far, and not to sound like an anal premed, but improvement is always possible. People on this thread who have been to tulane and some even accepted may know better what they were looking for that i might have been weak on, so i thought i'd ask. Sorry if i annoyed you and thanks for the congratulations.

yes, but as phoenix said, if you had 0 interviews, I would understand that you want to "improve". but the fact that you have many other interviews and acceptances shows that you are in fact doing things right. Some schools just feel that you may not be a good fit, or perhaps they emphasize gpa more than the mcat. It is impossible to predict. you don't need to improve anything at this point, and you are obviously doing things right. so relax 😉

did anyone's interviewer tell him/her, "YOU ARE DEFINITELY GETTING IN" ???

I interviewed on 10/25, which was almost 2 weeks ago. From your recent experiences, would it be ridiculous to think that a decision will be made today, or should I wait another week or two before calling?

i didn't hear for a month, but I guess since you hit the 2 week mark you could call if you wanted.

don't get freaked if you don't hear anything for a while. people that interviewed my day and after got acceptances 2 weeks before i did.

the acceptance letter in the mail said that they need written notification of intent to attend within 2 weeks. For those of you who have done this, did you email them or snail mail them?

I called the admissions office with the same question and they told me to email Dr. Beckman, the assistant dean for admissions. I emailed her and she responded within hours. She is one of the nicest people that you will come across.

I emailed, and it was sufficient. But you may have to call/follow-up a week later to be sure they put your email into your file if you don't get an email response confirming they received it.

If you get waitlisted, does your file go to the committee every week or does it just rot until May?

It's going to be awhile before you hear I would think...I called today and have been waiting since 10/12. 🙁 They told me to wait another week, must be really backed up!

i waited a month for an acceptance, so you can relax.

it could take a while. 🙂

Jolie-

That is HILARIOUS coming from you. You are one of the least relaxed people on this forum. Jeez!

No offense, but I'm just pointing out...It's easy to say when it's not you.

She wasn't telling the poster to just relax in general, but specifically because in her personal experience, a one month wait could still mean an acceptance.

i never said i was relaxed, though I probably should try to be.🙂

as phoenix said, a long wait doesn't necessarily translate to a waitlist/rejection like it does at other schools.
