whats the correct way to turn down an interview, basically withdrawing your application? Email, phone call, letter to admissions office??

This is how I've withdrawn...

Pre interview: email
To withdraw interview: there is either an option to do so on the status page, or email.
To withdraw after interview: written letter
To withdraw after acceptance: written letter
