Tuskegee Status Updates

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Still a little nervous about what to say so I had a vet student at AU ask the admissions people what they thought about it today and still waiting to hear from her. GOOD LUCK ON SATURDAY!

I am snowed in! Don't know if I will make it to my Saturday morning interview!

apparently some have already called about rescheduling due to the weather, so I should be OK.

Glad they were flexible about it, c17lat. I'm here for tomorrow's interview. The campus is gorgeous, the rest of the surrounding area is uh, well I'm with Nissan. I'll let everyone else decide on their own.

So here I sit reviewing my app to them and I'm wondering why on earth I got an interview. Their stupid application only gives you 3 veterinary experience blanks and 3 animal experience. I put the most recent experiences but I have thousands more hours of experience than I was able to list. I remember being irked about this at the time but now it makes look friggin inadequate. Hopefully I can make up for this in the am!

Good luck today, crittergal!

Thanks c17lat! I think it went really well and I LOVE the school. Yes, it's small and the toys are simplistic but they had 100% pass rate on the NAVLE last year, the people were super nice, and the faculty seem entirely committed to helping their students succeed.

Anyone else who interviewed this week have any other opinions to offer? Did your interviews go well?

Now the waiting game resumes. Come on April 15!

Anyone from Tuskegee who'd like to share some info? Am I mistaken?
Im from tuskegee and what you saw was basically it lol most people live in/ shop in auburn because it is a small town but has everything you need like a walmart movies plenty of restaurants etc... Tuskegee does have little food shops but good luck finding them because some dont have a sign up or are hidden between bigger buildings. If you decide to live in montgomery and commute to school then you have to be cautious of what time you leave because sometimes montgomery traffic is horrible when everyone is trying to get home or to work expect to wait in traffic for a long time. Other than that montgomery is great and has twice the stuff auburn does. The only stores tuskegee has is family dollar, maxway and a few grocery stores but because of the prices most ppl choose to shop at walmart in auburn. Dont get me wrong tuskegee is a great little place and hopefully i get admitted in when i apply for grad school. The best thing would probably be all the diverse students and cool teachers there so you will have fun either way.

i'm down here at the kellog conference center for my march 17th makeup interview. For those of you who stayed here without a rental car, where did you eat?

I just got my acceptance letter in the mail today!

Oh that's awesome c17lat!!! Congrats!!!

Do you anticipate accepting or are you still torn about Western?

ETA: Nevermind. I just saw your post on the Western thread. I'm anxiously awaiting my letter. I have already been accepted to OkSU, but I'm really torn between the two schools. Is it weird I'm hoping for a rejection? Then I don't have to decide!

Hey congrats!! Where do you live? Still nothing here

Hey congrats!! Where do you live? Still nothing here

thanks! I live in Maryland. The mailman came to my door, and I had to sign for the letter just as a heads up.

c17lat, I thought I read somewhere on here that TU wasn't sending out it's letters until sometime in April. I have a friend that's waiting to hear back from them which is why I'm curious.

I am a contract student and Mrs. Thompson said that she wouldn't be sending our letters out until sometime around april 15th. They could have just sent c17lat's early since she/he is an OOS

gotcha MrDoAnything. My friends is also OOS so hopefully she hears soon. I hope she gets in b/c then she would be close to me in Auburn. We (she and I) both got rejected from our IS.

I think Ms. Thompson just wanted to inform everyone that the letter will be received on or before april 15th. I didn't hear anyone say that the timeline is different for IS/OOS.

one of my classmates who is IS got her letter Friday.. so it just depends I guess! 🙂

Status changes? Mine is still the same from when the interview invites went out...😎

I can't wait to meet everyone in August =)

CONGRATULATIONS CLASS OF 2014!!!! How exciting!!! Now RELAX until August....SERIOUSLY!! Start looking for a place to live! I suggest living outside of TU, like Auburn or Notasulga. I am moving out of my trailer in Notasulga. I loved living here bc I was close to school. You need to be close to school your first year bc you spend A LOT OF YOUR TIME IN THE PIT AFTER HOURS!!!! I pay $400 per mo, but $350 if you don't have any animals. The trailer sits in the MIDDLE of a cow pasture, so if you like living in the middle of no mans land....good place to be. If you want to see pics, I can email you. My landlord is really nice! ALSO, I am moving into Bellwood Duplex in Auburn. Two of my classmates are moving there also. My place is a 3 bedroom 3 bath for $650 per month. You can get a unit with a backyard. So if you are interested in living in a duplex instead of a trailer...that is an option...I know that there are units still available. The realty co. is Henderson Realty and they are online and they are on craigslist with pics. You want to make sure that if you do move in with someone.....You are any easy person to live with bc some of my classmates have clashed!!! Personally, I like living on my own....so I take out the max loan amount to make sure I can afford a place by myself! If you have ANY questions on places to live, feel free to contact me (i can give you my number if you pm me). When you get your book list....Literally DONT buy all of the books!!!! You don't need them all! I like to read the textbooks so I can help you with that. In August, the weekend bf school starts plan on coming to VLE!!! It was awesome last year and it will be AWESOME this year. You will get to meet your class...camp out in cabins...and have an awesome time (So you will know people even bf orientation). I suggest going bc memories are made!!! So sorry to give ya'll a book to read! If you have ANY questions just let me know and hopefully I can help you!! CONGRATS. CLASS OF 2014....FUTURE DOCTORS!!!

Hey..

So excited! Already sent in my acceptance letter and deposit..
Can't wait to get my info packet because I want to know when school starts (plus the orientation and retreat?) so I know when I have to move!

Yaaaay! Congrats!

I have not received anything yet and I'm starting to get worried...so many people have gotten their acceptance letter already. Should I be worried?

I guess it depends on what would worry you. Dr. Eljack told me in the interview that they accept 60 students outright and 40 waitlisters. Based on the posts here, it does not appear that waitlist notices have gone out. While I do not have any idea how far they move down the waitlist (and it's my understanding you ought not to harass them to find out because they get cranky about that), there have been SDNers accepted off TU's waitlist in the past two years. Don't give up hope yet.

still nothing in the mail box.. one way or the other.. UGH😕

so if I haven't heard anything as of yet you're saying I may have been wait-listed or worse didn't get in? That gives me no hope at all lol. Waitlist is the kiss of death. 🙁

Do they send out letters of rejection and waitlists last?

Calm down. The email Ms. Thompson sent out a few days ago said they were not done with notifications yet. Also, like I mentioned previously, TU DOES pull from their waitlist as many people are accepted to their IS or other OOS and choose that school. A waitlist slot at TU is NOT a kiss of death- a rejection however might be a different story. 😉

With regard to letter mailing order, if you review the previous years' threads you'll see that they did mail letters in that order. That isn't to say they will do the same thing again though.

does anyone know about the SERP?

Read up on either page one or two of this thread. You'll find SERP info discussed a few months back.

was looking for a little more info than what had been posted... I had noticed that but thanks anyways.. and congrats on your acceptance. CONGRATS to all of you... hopefully I can post the same soon. 🙄

A few quick questions.. are any of you IS that are getting your acceptance letters? I ask because I see a stat posted saying they accepted 60 and 40 on the waitlist and I was wondering if that is IS stats or OOS stats? For those that are IS how did you qualify for that status? I live in AL and own a home in AL for over 4 years now however I have heard you have to have graduated from an AL high school for IS?? Also, does anyone know how many IS applied vs. how many the accepted?? Lastly, I have read somewhere that IS tuition for 1yr is around $18,500 has that changed?? And what is it for OOS? Not applying until next year but wanted to ask since everyone here is probably knowledgable about all information pertaining to Tuskegee

Thanks so much

I'm OOS, but I believe Iheartgoldens is a contract state and she got her letter already. I can't recall anyone on SDN this year who applied to TU as IS.

As far as the numbers OOS vs IS, all I know is the 60/40 that I posted earlier but no specifics on breakdown. Finding concrete stats for TU is neigh impossible. The did have some details in the VMSAR book but I don't recall the specifics and honestly, I'd be surprised if they stuck with that data anyhow. They seem to do their own thing with admissions. Best wishes finding info on number applied vs accepted. I've been trying for damn near a year.

It's my understanding that you'd be an OOS, but again, I couldn't ever find anything concrete on establishing residency as IS. GACowgirl did mention that you have to be an Alabama HS graduate to be IS. She's a current student there so would know better than I.

Lastly, I have read somewhere that IS tuition for 1yr is around $18,500 has that changed?? And what is it for OOS

It's ~$19,500 IS and ~$30,400 OOS. Those are 2010-2011 figures and you can get the specifics here:

Accepted!!! :soexcited: Now I have to make a final decision, even though I thought I'd already made it. It's really easy to pick which school you're going to when you only get one offer

To those of you waiting, don't give up hope. They aren't done sending letters yet. :xf:

Grats! Which schools are you trying to make your decision on?

congrats crittergal!!!!!

I was recently accepted to Tuskegee!!! Unfortunately I was unable to see Auburn where the students live but I will be returning to the area before school starts to find housing. I came from a much larger undergrad and I am a little concerned with how small and isolated Tuskegee is. What do the Tuskegee vet students do for fun when they are not studying? Is it difficult to meet other graduate students at Tuskegee or Auburn? I didn't get to hear much from the student body so I am looking for input!! Thanks

Ok guys. I went and visited OkSU this weekend, the other school where I was accepted. While really liked TU and the students and faculty were super supportive, OkSU is closer to my family and ends up being a cheaper option.

I'll be turning down my TU acceptance tomorrow. I don't think they've sent out waitlist info yet, but rest assured at least one spot will be opening up! Good luck to everyone still stuck in limbo!

Congrats anyways Crittergal!

I'm still one of those in limbo..have not heard ANYTHING yet! I'm going crazy!!!!!

Hey! I really don't think TU accepts a certain number of IS people bc our class is sooo diverse. We have people from all over the US. I can't really answer that question...it just seems like we have so many people from out of state. If you want IS tuition, you would have to have graduated from an AL high school. IS tuition is not $18,500; I am OOS (GA) and last year my tuition and fees were no more than $15..I honestly can't remember how much it was. I know that tuition is going up this upcoming school year. Hope this helps.
