Tuskegee

Hi there, I was wondering if you could tell me where I could find out the requirements for applying to Tuskegee's vet school. I was thinking of applying there next year fall 2007 that is if I don't get off of Purdue's alternate list for this fall. I looked at their website but it really didn't say much. any info is appreciated!

Just as a side note, I helped save a life today! I want to share this story w/ everyone. We had a twenty something young girl come in today with a puppy ~6mths old mix that she adopted from an animal shelter 4 days ago, since then it has been vomiting and having diarrhea and not eating. Of course, it tested positive for PARVO!

Meanwhile during the appointment the girl ran out of the room to our bathroom to throw up b/c the puppy got a little bit of diarrhea on her pants and she was freaking out, then once we found out and told her the puppy had parvo and how much it would be to treat it she started freaking out more and crying up a storm like it was a funeral or something, meanwhile the puppy was lying on the ground all curled up in a ball all cute in all.

So the girl didn't know what to do, and couldn't afford to treat it and didn't want to bring the dog back home b/c they had other dogs (that probably weren't up to date with shots) at home that we told them there was a possiblity they could get it if they weren't vaccinated. So after about 30 mins of crying and trying to talk to her we decided that if she took the dog back to the shelter they would just euthanize it and she wasn't going to take the dog back home, so we decided to have her sign over rights for the puppy and we (the staff) would treat it and help pay for the treatments (we don't know what our boss is going to say tomorrow when he comes in, but the puppy is too cute and didn't ask to have Parvo! wouldn't you guys have done the same thing?

I thought the interview went pretty well. It wasn't very stressful, but I keep replaying some of the questions wondering if I gave good answers. I guess I'll find out how I did in a few weeks. I absolutely loved the school and everyone was so nice. I really hope I get in.

How did the interview go for you? I'll keep you posted if I hear anything.

As for requirements for Tuskegee, I think the about.com pre-vet/career forum has an old posting with the requirements.

Good luck!

I really enjoyed the interview and the school. Everybody was extreemly kind. What type of questions did they ask you and how long was your interview? Mine was about 1.5 hours.

I don't really know how long my interview was-- I forgot my watch. When I came out of the interview, the student that walked me down said I was in there a long time, but the time went fast. They basically asked about how I feel on euthanasia, terminal surgeries, what I want to do as a vet, etc. In the middle of the interview we were talking about Dairy Queen. It was very laid back. I really enjoyed the school.

Good job on getting in!! I still have not recieved any correspondance. Do you know if they send all of the letters out at the same time? I hope i get in, but I think that I would have heard by now. :{

Thanks! I called last Thursday and they said they were hoping to send them all out on Fri. It was certified, so I had to sign for it. I don't know what they do if you're not home to sign. You should be hearing soon-- Good luck!

Yeah, that was yesterday so yours may still be on the way. At my interview they said that we should definitely hear by April 15th.
