Does anyone know how reliable the TUSPM intercampus shuttle is? I found the schedule on the Temple website, but I was just wondering if the shuttle is a good, realible form of transportation (say if I wanted to live near Temple hospital).

i believe it is very reliable.....it usually sticks to schedule.. If you depend on it, it should be ok.

I have found it to be quite reliable. It is not always the quickest way to get to your destination but it is free and on time. If you are going to live that far from campus, it might be worthwhile to get a monthly SEPTA pass and catch the subway, it is a lot quicker.

Unless you have a specific reason, I wouldn't necessarily live up by the Medical school (in my opinion). Most medical/dental school students that I'm friends with say most people end up living down in our area, center city, south philly (to south street) or out in manayunk. Like they said, the shuttles aren't bad, but that 2.5 miles can be pretty slow going with Broad Street traffic.

I would definitely like to live in center city but the prices that I'm seeing on craigslists and other sites are very high. I have heard that the Temple main-campus area should be steered clear of, so I was just browsing other areas like the hospital area and was wondering if taking the shuttle would be an option. Having always have lived in cities where parking is an option, I have never had to deal with public transportation, and the SEPTA route maps are a lot to digest. Ideally, I'll find something reasonable in center city and won't have to worry about long commutes or taking a shuttle from a not-so-nice neighborhood. Thanks for your replies

The Temple hospital area is just as bad as Temple Main if not worse. Some areas for you to look at would be: Northern Liberties, Old City, Fishtown, Society Hill, Rittenhouse, or Chinatown. You may spend a little more but honestly it is going to be well worth it when it comes to having the peice of mind knowing that you are safe at night.

I would live in the Temple main campus area before the hospital area. I went to Temple undergrad and lived off campus in the surrounding area for 2 years. The area surrounding the campus (more on the west side of broad) is filled with students surrounding a 2-3 block radius around the campus itself. Developers come in, buy up blocks, renovate, and students move in. The areas though may not look like it, are surprisingly safe to be around. Up by the hospital, their are few/no students living and the area is worse. I would be much less inclined to go off of broad street especially at night up there.

I agree with the above post about the areas to look at. Being in a much safer area plus little to no commute time or not having to depend on the bus or septa public transit (and the additional cost there) is worth it.
