Ayudame SDN,

I have an interview to tutor coming up (pre-med topics) and I have no tutoring experience.

Any advice for how I could ace the interview would be appreciated.

It's okay if you don't have any formal tutoring/teaching experience. If you have informal experience (helping your friends, family members, etc. with certain subjects and/or presenting topics for a class presentation), you can still bring that up. Don't worry too much. A lot of it is making sure you know your stuff (whatever subjects you've chosen to tutor for) and just being able to communicate and articulate well. You may get asked to go through a problem with them or explain to them a particular concept or something. It's really not that bad though. Haha, if you've gone through med school interviews, these are pretty much a breeze 🙂 Good luck!

Just talk about how you enjoyed helping others understand the subject while taking the class and that you hope to accomplish much more while tutoring. Get a LOR from the instructor and showed the admin people your transcripts, so they can see you're a strong student. btw, sfgiants are kicking ass...

As long as you can communicate effectively and don't give off any creepy vibes, I'm sure you'll be fine. Really the communication is a key point since that's so important to teaching jobs.

Just show you care about helping the students with their academics and you can communicate a point clearly. That's about all you need for the interview. I know at my school we are pretty in need for tutors, so it's a pretty slack process. Good luck.

Having a simulated tutoring topic ready doesn't hurt.
