I am getting ready to sign for the HPSP next year (current Army ROTC MSIII) and have two questions.

Are ROTC cadets who take the HPSP eligible for the $20,000 signing bonus? I asked this before, but no one really seem to know and I recently heard that only previously non-contracted civilians receive that bonus.

Secondly, do HPSPers get a CAC card while in medical school or are they stuck with the reserve ID? Since they activate each summer, I thought there might be a chance...

Thanks in advance.

For Navy, yes, ROTC students get the $20K. Not sure about the Army.

No CAC card.

Sort of, regarding the CAC. I guess some regulation states that we're not supposed to have them, except when ADT, but they are relatively easy to obtain, and very necessary for rotations. The first time you have ADT orders, just get on post, and get to the ID station, present your orders, and request a card. They should give you a CAC. Again, having one before you actually start rotations makes things so much easier, and you may be doing more than just your 2 ADTs at military hospitals.

(Navy) When I did my first AT last year I was issued a CAC card on check-in and kept it. Maybe I was supposed to turn it on check out, I don't know. 😕

Have you tried to apply for orders via NROWS lately?

The problem with keeping your CAC card after your AT is that although the exp date is far in the future, you are deactivated at the end of the AT period. This kicks you out of DEERS. You won't notice this until you attempt to apply for orders again and can't.

Thank goodness I am done with AT's and NROWS.:banana::clap::soexcited:😀

Yes, they are eligible. I am a year ahead of you in the same situation and went through the HPSP application process this past fall. (though I will be attending USUHS instead)
