Hey Everyone,

I have two questions as it relates to Letters Of Recommendation.

While looking at the Boston Univeristy and University of Louisville websites, I saw that both were very explicit in their desire to have LOR be on OFFICIAL letterhead. I am submitting my LOR's through Interfolio. I know that both of these schools accept LOR from Interfolio, so how do i get those onto official letterhead? Whats the right way to go here?

While looking at Rush and Drexel I saw both schools stated "If candidates have taken time off between college and medical school, they should also send a letter of recommendation from a person who can comment about experiences during that period. All supporting materials must be received by the College of Medicine by January 1, 2014."

I have been working the same job for the last year and a half, and feel uncomfortable approaching my boss asking for a letter of recommendation because i'm afraid that if i do it will risk my ability to rise in the company. If the company knows i'm thinking about leaving i won't be considered promotion. If i don't make it into medical school this forces me to shoot myself in the foot. Any insight here?

Thank you!

Your letter writers need to write their letters on official letterhead before submitting them to Interfolio, that is not something you can do.

Is there another person at your company who can write you a recommendation letter?

I'm confused though. You upload the text directly to interfolio, so how do you put it on official letterhead? The writers literally just put it into a text box on the website? Well, all of the letters i had sent in where sent into interfolio electronically. 🙁

As for the second question, it's a 6 person company, so it'll get around. I just don't want it to affect my promotions/bonuses. 🙁

Writers can:
  • Print a LoR with letterhead, sign it, and then scan it and submit it, or,
  • Have the electronic template, which has the official letterhead, write on it, and then attach the e-signature, then submit it.
I personally like the e-signature. I've done it 4 times already :B so futuristic 👍

Now, unless you have character issues, asking for a recommendation will be somewhat burdensome. Approach your boss with an audacious and enthusiastic attitude, don't forget to smile, and ask him for a favour. That's the fresh impression you want him to remember whilst he writes the letter.
