The Cullen dining room has never seen anything quite like this. One by one, the guests arrive, each proudly presenting their contribution to the dinner table.
A peppy human woman cheerfully unveils her dish: a severed hand. The room falls silent. She seems delighted with herself.
A female vampire arrives with a perfectly prepared Baked Alaska. For perhaps the first time tonight, someone has brought an actual dessert. Delicious!
A male vampire contributes a bag of eggs. No explanation is offered. None is requested.
A beautiful vampire places a magnificent sopapilla cheesecake on the table. It is immediately clear that she understood the assignment better than everyone else.
A sullen-looking human silently sets down a bowl of foiled covered chocolate eyeballs. A little early for Halloween candy, no?
A shifter has brought dill pickle spread with cream cheese and then wrapped in ham and sliced into sushi roll-sized pieces. Finally, an entree!
An older male human brought.... Nothing. How rude!
Then comes a boisterous human man, carrying a can of baked beans with bacon. He sits down at the table and opens the can. He eats them directly from it with a fork. The table watches in stunned silence.
Even the vampires look disturbed.
And then the nerdy human arrives. She has brought… a paper cut on her hand.
Unfortunately, it is enough.
The scent of blood hits the room, and the Cullen family immediately descends into absolute chaos. Vampires frenzy. Chairs scrape. Plates go flying. The dinner party devolves into a supernatural feeding frenzy, and no vampire is capable of doing anything else tonight.
Amid the chaos, however, one quiet observer vampire remains remarkably composed. She casually reaches across the table for the mushroom ravioli. SHe takes one. Then another. By the time anyone notices, she has quietly shoveled an alarming quantity of mushroom ravioli into her purse.
Nobody knows why. Nobody dares ask.
Dinner at the Cullens has officially been declared a disaster.

Alice Cullen wakes suddenly in the middle of the night. She has seen something.

Alice shares what she has seen, and the information sets events into motion. The wolf is exposed. Victoria already consumed by grief and rage after James' death, is left vulnerable. The coven and shifter pack rip her head from her body. Victoria is dead.
But Alice's vision has come at a price.
Later that night, Alice finds herself alone in the forest. She stops. Something feels wrong.
The future goes blank. She turns.... The Volturi are waiting.
Alice tries to run, but there is nowhere to go. The confrontation is swift, and by the time the forest falls silent again, the Cullen seer is gone.

Jacob Black has lost the person he imprinted on. The one person who made his world feel complete. Without them, the shifter who could withstand almost anything finds himself unable to endure the pain.
