Hi everyone,
I'm a Texas resident currently attending an OOS top 25 university in California. What are my chances for Texas MD, AMCAS MD's, and DO schools based on my given stats?
Major: Biology
4th year Asian male
TMDSAS/AMCAS cGPA: ~3.5
TMDSAS/AMCAS sGPA: ~3.3
MCAT: 511/85% (Chem: 129 CARS: 125 Bio: 129 Psych:128)
EC/Work Experience:
1 year of clinical/social work with homeless and underprivileged clients at a street-side clinic (~500 hours)
2 years of volunteer work through teaching science/mentoring underprivileged high school students. Served 1 year as a member, the next year as a laboratory director. (~500 hours)
1 year of wet-lab research focusing on kidney cancer. No publications. Will present at a school poster day (~750 hours)
1 year of clinical/volunteer work at Hepatitis B health fairs and promoting on-campus awareness. (~100 hours)
2 3-month hospital volunteer programs (~100 hours)
Varying amounts of shadowing: Family medicine, critical care medicine, colon/rectal surgery, GI/hepatologist (~100 hours)
1 week serving as a camp counselor (~150 hours)
2 months working as a waiter (~200 hours)
[Tentative] Gap year activities:
Hoping to either scribe, work as a medical assistant, and/or volunteer in a non-profit mentorship organization that utilizes the arts as a way to enrich and help at-risk/traumatized individuals.
In general, my top priority is a Texas MD/DO, but I'd be happy just to get in anywhere due to my low sGPA. Thanks in advance for any input! Best of luck to all those applying this cycle. 🙂
