I am here looking at PCOM and NOVA's secondaries. PCOM would not be bad to type on a typewriter, but NOVAs would be pretty bad considering my lack of skills on a typewriter.

Does anyone have a good alternative to typing that is still going to look as professional as typing. I have an urge to just hand write it, but I know that is not professional and the way I see it every little bit helps.

All opinions open.

I typed my PCOM one on my computer, printed it, and attached to the original paper. Sheet that I got didn't look like I was going to be able to type. Now that it is sent out I can't remember what it looks like, but I don't think there really was space to answer the questions on the sheet. Anyways, that's just me.

I hand wrote my NOVA secondary in form letters and got an interview offer (declined it). Just make sure you're neat.

Well, I took the time to type all of mine, and I would be willing to bet that a typed application shows a lot more dedication and professionalism than a hand written one, no matter how neat it is. I really want this, so I took the time to type them.

I think I hand wrote my secondary to NOVA. I think I typed out my essay for PCOM on a computer, printed it out, and mailed it along w/ their form. I got interviewed by both schools and got accepted by both schools. NSU didn't raise any issue about handwritten secondary (as long as they can read it) - they were more interested in YOU as a person (along with grades, MCATs, ECs, etc).

My personal feeling - as long as your handwritting is legible, it doesn't matter if it is handwritten or typed.

Now if you were to submit a resume (or CV) that is handwritten instead of typed, that's a different story. But since the secondaries were designed in such a way that it makes it difficult to type but easier to handwrite, then it is expected that people will handwrite 🙂

True, but everything else being equal between 2 applicants, except one hand wrote the app and the other typed, the typed one shown more interest and dedication. I need all the help I can get!

I had mine typed but some of them came out pretty bad.. white out, way above the provided lines, etc.

I don't think there is ever two applicants being equal. they will probably look at your application and think you had too much time on your hands. ha.

just kidding. i just wrote mine out just because its easier and more affordable than buying a typewriter.....

Okay...new question, along the same line with the NOVA secondary.
I went ahead and did the typewriter for most of the application.

"State your reasons for desiring to become an osteopathic physician. Use additional sheet if necessary.

Would it look bad if I just wrote, see attached...and attached a second sheet regardless of length?

(thanks for putting up with my fretting over stupid little sheit 🙂)

For PCOM I wrote "see attached" in the space and wrote a response on my computer the same size as the space they gave. I think it is advantageous to write a thorough but tight (ie short) response...don't send a long-winded answer. Good luck!

That is what I did

hand write its the way to go...im such a slacker....

If you are computer savvy, scan the app, open it up in a program like paper port, type in your answers, and print! if you have this program, it works like a charm 👍

that is what i did... sorta...you can scan and then type answers or i jsut wrote it on the computer and printed it onto the sheets that they provide...yes it takes some math skills 2 figure out the spacing but it looks neat

many of my secondaries were not looking beautiful because i crammed more info than normal by playing with font, spacing, ect....i got into all those schools... 😀

the point is dont waste too much time worrying whether your application is beautiful...they care about what is in your essays
