I know we’ve talked before and I was all gung-ho about UM so I’m eating my words for a number of reasons.
1. the commute since I can’t turn down free rent. At first I didn’t think the commute was a big deal but, for me, it would be 2 hours a day driving. I’ve realized I can spend those 10 hours on something more productive for my career, like networking or extracurricular stuff and I’m not willing to take out loans for rent
2. Nova has significantly more clinical experience (~2+ months more) included in the curriculum and it starts significantly sooner. This is important to me because getting over shyness is going to be my biggest hurdle
3. I’ve spoken to at least 10 PTs in all sorts of hiring positions, all over the country, who have said the school you attend doesn’t matter. At first, I blew this advice off. And the PT I work for told me otherwise. But then I started asking “well what matters then?” and the answers all made so much sense. I can’t DO the things that matter if I’m commuting so much
4. Finally, I visited Nova and it really just felt like it clicked
Also, I should note that I'm not particularly interested in sports PT... so I might be thinking differently if I was.
