I got accepted! I got my letter Monday (dated 11/17, interviewed 11/13)! What a quick turn-around!

Anyways, I refrained from posting earlier b/c I didn't want to sound like I was bragging or anything. I wish you guys the best of luck next meeting. I think getting our interviews done early will definately help.

Depakote: What exactly is "Hollywood Upstairs"?? I see it in your shirt page and am lost on that reference...

Congrats! I'm impressed by your consideration on the forum. Although not my dream school, UMC is pretty great. Good luck!

Congrats on the acceptance. I'm glad to see someone here got in the first go around and I'm confident in subsequent meetings more will, so definitely enjoy.

Have you heard anything from Iowa post-interview? I still haven't and I'm just wondering if they're slow or what ...

So... this month. Sounds like decision day is the 21st (ugh, that's late).

Guess bad news would come the 21st or the 22nd. Good news would probably arrive 23rd if we're lucky, 26-27th otherwise.

Good luck this go round.:luck:

I've got a interview at Mizzou coming up next week..anyone got any specific adivce (especially those who have already been accpeted). Thanks!!

This will probably just stress you out unnecessarily, but I got a letter today saying I'd been accepted through a "bypass of the regular monthly selection cycle." I don't know if I'm just an oddball or whether they're being lazy as that meeting/decision day is so close to Christmas.

Lifter, just relax with your interviews. There are 2 one hour sessions with a faculty member (they will have read both your AMCAS and secondary) designed so they can get to know you. There might be one or two odd ethical problems for you to work through, but nothing to seriously stress over. If the two interviewers disagree about your "score" though, you get a third in the afternoon. Check out the interview feedback forum if you get a chance.

Good luck to you both! :luck:

😵

*head a splodes*

ok, guess it's time to pull out the lucky boxers again...

So, does anybody that's interviewed recently know if the Adcom is still meeting next thurs or if they might have pushed it up due to the holiday?

guess it doesn't matter, but these monthly waits drive me nuts.

Oddball? No no no. One word: balla.

This is the first I'd heard of this. Can anyone else confirm? I guess it doesn't matter in my case, but last year I had one great interview and one terrible interview, then ended up getting a flat out rejection in March (the first the give out post interview rejections) Maybe I actually did poorly in both interviews and mislead myself about the first one. Hmmmm.

That's what they say in the interview invitation email that I received.

So does anyone know when the decision day for Dec is?? Also, anyone know how they score interviewees?

I interviewed this past Monday and I am curious about their meeting date as well. If anyone has any insights i'd be greatful.

I do know that at the end of each week of interviews they discuss the applicants, score them and then average them and that averaged score is used at the monthly meeting to determine status (well that's what I gather from the handout they gave us when we interview).

I hope we hear from them soon! Mizzou is my first choice :scared:

Hmmm, wondering if this is a new practice. It wasn't mentioned last year to my knowledge.

I don't recall any specific place where it's documented (probably in the interview day materials and I'm not going to go look for my stuff from last year), but I do believe this has been their practice for some time.

Interesting about that third interview. I noticed that the interviewers were literally putting a score down on the interview sheet they had (IIRC there were several sections where they put numbers down). I guess the two interviewers compare these numbers and if they disagree too much they give you a third interview? Maybe thats why they tell you that you can't leave until someone dismisses you....

That would make sense.

I've sort of been hoping that they pushed up the meeting from the third thursday to the second (today). In that case, some of us would probably be getting e-mails tomorrow. (they meet in evenings IIRC)

But I guess we'll just have to keep guessing until someone get's a "better luck next month" e-mail.

FWIW, I had a friend that was rejected (pre interview) and he got the e-mail on Monday evening (earlier this week). I don't know if the commitee meets on a seperate day to talk about interview invites or not...

Good luck to all :luck:

In the interview feedback section, there are people claiming they got a third interview last cycle.

I too got that "bypass monthly meeting" message, Dr. Durden, but I had my interview the week of the meeting, so I received my acceptance at the normal time. I think they have a raw scoring system for an application, and if you get above a certain score that has chronically been offered acceptance they shoot you the acceptance a bit early just to get on your good side. Who knows??

That being said, you'll still receive an e-mail telling your status before any snail mail notifiying you of your acceptance arrives. Sooooo, if you do not get an e-mail and others here say they have, take that as a very good sign and start obsessively checking your mailbox!

A new year, a new result?

Update e-mail??? I didn't receive one, should I be worried or happy? 😕

Ok then, would anyone know whether or not their rejection comes via snail mail or e-mail. If it comes via e-mail, then I'm gonna keep my fingers crossed 🙂

The rejection comes via e-mail. But they don't send them out until march.

Sorry to keep blabbering, but if you get put on the waitlist does that notification also come via e-mail? Last question, I promise. 😀

But waitlists are only generated at the end of the cycle (in March). Very few people are rejected in cycle (or so we were told), so I think no e-mail = pretty good chance of acceptance for you (but again, dont get your hopes too up until you get the packet). Good luck and Ill keep my fingers crossed for you.

Layout of the process:

Traditionally they accept a few people each month after the regular meeting on the 3rd thursday of the month looks like they bumped it up b/c of the holiday. (it appears that they're also randomly picking people out to accept outside the regular cycle as well, I don't know the rhyme or reason to that. They will do this every month through January.

Febuary. No admits.

March. The big one. They generate a huge list. Send out acceptances to everyone that didn't get in in the monthy groupings, they send out rejections to everyone that never had a chance and they generate the waitlist.

IIRC, they try to accept and waitlist 128 students each. (DO NOT QUOTE ME ON THOSE NUMBERS)

Thanks Kiehl, best wishes to you as well.

Yep I got the update letter. Well here's to us getting in during January :luck:

Anybody know how many people they accept montly? How many people will they accept in March?

I'll echo the good luck sentiment! :luck:

is today one of the days they decide if your accepted or not?

is today one of the days they decide if your accepted or not?

Should be. They said they decide on the 3rd Thurs of every month for candidates they've interviewed and let a few people in each month (except Feb)... and then create their waitlist, big acceptance list and rejection list in March.

They told me the 3rd week of the month, not any particular date. Also, the updates have been coming on monday... maybe because the first week was a short week, they'll be out next week.

I would expect something tomorrow actually ... they usually send things in the morning.

yeaaaaaaaaya do they call you on your cell phone?

yeaaaaaaaaya do they call you on your cell phone?

I wish.

Not good news is the e-mail telling you better luck next time. Good news is silence... followed by the acceptance letter a few days later. Not for the faint of heart.

I saw some of you were talking about KU, so I thought I would put in my 2 cents as a fourth year there. I think that the hospital is probably more important then the "school" aspect because you will spend a lot more time there.

KU has an older hospital, but they have just built a brand new heart hospital and emergency room. It is a really impressive set-up... The ER is huge! All the rooms have sliding glass doors and are single occupancy- no more beds lined up with curtains separating them. The heart hospital is similarly impressive; the CCU (cardiac care unit) is built in an oval with a walkway around the inside so that patients can be exercised by the nurses without getting in the way of passing traffic. The actual patient's rooms look almost like hotels, and some of the rooms have little living rooms built in for the families. I interviewed at a lot of nice places (Mayo, Yale, etc), and I don't think that any of them looked as nice as the new construction at KU.

The hospital its self is older and not near as nice, although they have started to refurnish some of the upper floors to be more like the new heart hospital. The new floors look nice, but they are a bit more constrained by room size, so they are not quite as lavish as the heart hospital. Unfortunately it will probably take a few years for them to finish the construction in the rest of the hospital, although that might work out all right for the new entering class.

If anyone has any specific questions I would be happy to answer them. Good luck with the application process!

Now where did I put my Tums? :scared:

I say we all take it as a sign that we ALL got accepted...hooray!

so........when should we be gettin that email? or has anyone gotten it?
