Booh for that! I was really hoping you were going to get in! I won't lie, your posts have been some of the most informative regarding MU's process and I thought it only would have been fair if you got in. Are you IS or OOS?

In state.

i know all who are on the waitlist are unhappy, but i am also waitlisted, i wont say the exact position, but its somewhere in the top 10 spots, and i will not accept a position at mizzou, SO EVERYONE SUBTRACT ONE from the waitlist position

U of I of course, doesn't everyone go there?

It's true. At a chicago interview, around 2/3 people in the interview room went to U of I (urbana or chicago).

heh, at my University of Iowa interview they had 12 interviewees. Over half of them were from UIUC.

Hey all. I was curious when the financial aid award letters would come out for Mizzou, so I shot Mr. Jones and e-mail. This is what he had to say:

"Re the award letters, two things holding them up at this point. First,
the Curators have not set tuition and fees for next year yet. They are
waiting to see what the state legislature does as far as appropriations.
It looks like mid-April for that decision. Second, the University is
switching to new financial aid software next year (as well as new
software for Registrars and Admissions). The implementation of this
software is the great unknown at this point. My best guess now is
mid-May for actual award letters for med students since first-time
college freshman will take precedence with the main financial aid
office."

So there it is, straight from the horse's mouth.

Hey, did any of you/do you know anyone who applied to Mizzou early decision?? If so, was this any different than normal applications, interviews, wait times, etc? Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks and good luck to all of those waitlisted 👍

I was talking to some people about this just last week. The process is exactly the same except you interview in Aug/Sep and you know if you get accepted by Oct. You can reenter the regular pool if you get rejected from EDP.

EDP is very competitive at Mizzou. I know 5 who applied and all had >3.9 GPA and >31 MCAT; only three were selected. Your stats definitely put you in the running, though.

The new program is called MyZou, and it's supposed to be this vast improvement over what we've had previously. It's PeopleSoft-based, and people who've used it to register for classes next semester say that it's easy to use. The administration and professors who've had to use it for scheduling say that it's miserable. I work for two professors who are in charge of the scheduling for their respective departments.

Case in point: The Chemistry department did not cross-list the labs for the general chemistry classes with the lectures, so the system did not require people to register for both a lab and a lecture... fine until you find out that you're failing your Gen Chem 2 class because you didn't know there was a lab.

They don't give you any extra weight due to your devotion to the school? I'm also an in state farm kid from a very small town and want to practice rural (and almost certainly family) medicine. My MCAT is 36M and GPA 3.95. I'm also coming from one of the other three state universities (I've heard that they can be somewhat prejudice to those who chose not to leave the state for undergrad). Thanks 😉

Well, presumably all the EDP candidates are devoted to the school. I had seen your stats from previous posts and I was only trying to say that even for well qualified candidates EDP is not a slam dunk.

But I guess what I'm asking is how much of a higher percent they accept from the ED apps than the regular addmission. It seems sort of ridiculous just to reject them ED, allow them to resubmit regular, and then admit them there.

I checked out your mdApps profile and it's phenominal. Great job! I think you'll have no problem if you want to go EDP at Mizzou. 😛

EDP acceptance rate is pretty high. I think this is because Mizzou encourages candidates to contact them to "verify eligibility" (i.e., let you know if you're competitive) before submitting the EDP application. Basically only those that have a legitimate chance of securing an EDP slot go through with EDP. It's not a sure thing, but you know you have a pretty good chance. At least this is how it worked under the previous Dean of Students. I'm not as familiar with the way Dean Brown runs the ship now.

Mizzou would be lucky to have you, especially if you're committed to FM. You can do a special 4th year pathway that guarantees you a residency slot at Mizzou and allows you to take advanced electives in FM. The biggest benefit is you don't have to deal with the Match and when you're an intern you'll be well ahead of your peers.

So what are you people doing about housing? I live in Illinois and don't really know anyone or any place in Columbia. . .

If you want good grad student housing, go with Katy Place Apts. All of the other apartment complexes are sketchy or overrun with undergrads that party all the time.

Half true. I live in Ashland Manor and it's very nice and quiet. The University just bought TARA apartments for married and grad students, so they might improve, but I'd wait. Lots of people have also had luck with Ashley Ridge.

One of my buddies and I are planning on living in Deer Valley apartments.

I was just down to Columbia this weekend (grew up in Kansas City, but went to college in PA, so not too familiar with Columbia) and looked for apartments. Ashland seemed like it might be nice, but like Tara is on the older side of things. Both those two seem about as close as you can get though.

Katy Place seemed nice enough as did Kelly Ridge, but I ended up deciding on Deer Valley because it was about as new as you can get (I'll be the first person to live in my apartment) and it is nicer than some of the older stuff. 9-ft ceilings were one of the big things for me, I like the more open feel. Price is $600-645 for 2br/1ba and $645-690 for 2br/2ba depending on options (view, 'vaulted' ceiling, etc). You have to be 22 or older to live there, so I don't think undergrads will be two big of a problem and when I went by on Friday night, the place seemed fairly quiet.

In addition to me, my buddy mentioned that he met another soon to be Mizzou M1 who was going to be living there, so it can't be a terrible choice for Med students. It is definitely in biking distance from the school, but also definitely too far to walk. You can check it out at www.deervalleyapts.com if you are interested.

Also, if you have any questions on Deer Valley or other places, I would be happy to give you opinions on specific places since I am in your same boat and just visited.

Good luck!

For anyone who is still on the waitlist, I was #26 and got off, but turned them down in favor of Brown. Hope that gets someone else in ...

Hi,
Just curious, has anyone received any information about their financial aid package for fall 2007? I have received lots of other paperwork but nothing about financial aid since the fafsa.
Thanks
