Has anyone heard ANYTHING from University of Missouri-Columbia post interview?

I recently sent an e-mail to Judy Nolke and she said that no final decisions have been made yet. The first meeting to grant acceptances was scheduled for a Wednesday in mid-November (so either yesterday or next Wednesday probably), where they would only accept a "select few applicants." Hope this helps.

Well poo poo on them! Do you think they'll let us know either way, like even if we are on hold?

I'm a reapplicant from last year, so here's the lowdown on what will happen (presumably). After your interview, they (interviewers/admissions committe) will meet and apparently assign a point score to your application in three categories (character, academics, and clinical background) ... I think it's a total of 30 points. You will then be ranked vs. all the other applicants and each month, the committee will meet once and take a "select few" applicants. If you are accepted, you find out via snail mail. If not, they will send you an e-mail every third Thursday of the month (at least last year), saying you weren't accepted this time but are still under consideration. In late Feb/early March, they meet and make a decision on the remaining candidates. Some are accepted or rank waitlisted (snail) and some are rejected (e-mail). Hope this helps.

I had an interview there this Monday. They said their first admissions decisions would be made this Thursday. Everything else was pretty much as kyle explained.

Sweet.

I was there on Tuesday. I was told I could expect something by the end of the month.

Traditionally it's the third week of the month, (as a reapplicant, they're usually pretty good about sticking to this)... but this month will be off schedule due to Thanksgiving. It would be AWESOME if we heard something this week.

Anyone heard anything ... pre or post interview?

My cousin flew in from Michigan (went to UMich) and interviewed at Mizzou on Tuesday as well. Small world I guess, as you two definitely met each other I bet.

Yup. He was talking about the Mich-Ohio State Game.

Did anyone get an e-mail from them this morning yet? I know the committee was meeting for the first time today, but historically they've sent out monthly correspondences really early in the morning (although I think all acceptances come via snail mail).

Noelle, On hold at KCUMB...nothing at KU.

Two DO interviews scheduled, and quite pumped about them.

How's the new curriculum?

Pretty good over all, although I can pretty well say that our current module, Inflammation and Immunity is gonna kick my a$$ and I've heard others in my class say the same. Good luck with the other interviews. Which schools?

I haven't heard anything... I was hoping to get a first acceptance from Mizzou today! Anyone get any sort of correspondence? Waitlist? Acceptance? Rejection?

Also, they said they e-mail waitlist/status, but hard mail acceptances. Does this mean if we do NOT receive correspondance that we have a better shot at an acceptance? Should I be rooting for my inbox to stay empty??? It goes against everything my this application cycle has taught me... so... confused...

I called the admissions office this week, and was told that they are behind schedule, but that early interviewees should get something in the mail this week, presumably either an acceptance, rejection, or (for most) notification that a decision will be made in March, around St. Patrick's Day.

I am personally way more anxious about this than I thought I would be.

You should pray for an empty inbox and a fast postal carrier.

From last year: If you've been interviewed, a caryover to the next adcom meeting comes in the form of an e-mail. Acceptances come via snailmail. Rejections/Waitlists don't come until March (my rejection came via e-mail).

That's why I asked if anyone had received an e-mail correspondence today saying something along the lines of "you weren't selected this month but are still under consideration for subsequent acceptance." That's basically what the monthly e-mail said last year. If anyone had received this, then not receiving anything today via e-mail would likely be a good sign. However, given that no one seems to have received this, they may not have sent out such an e-mail yet. But, yeah ... empty mail box = good.

My cousin who interviewed with you guys on Tuesday didn't hear anything today as well, so I don't think they've sent out the monthly "not accepted today" e-mail yet (you'd figure if they did, that at least one of us would have gotten it). Maybe they'll send it out tomorrow or something. Also, have any of you also applied to KU (OOS) and not heard anything post-secondary yet?

My guess is that the adcom is just meeting today. If so, it'll probably take a little bit for the decisions to go from the adcom table to the letter/e-mail phase.

Side note: I was rejected pre-secondary by KU as a reapplicant. (OOS)

Check your mail if you're waiting to hear from Kansas! I received my first acceptance today, from KU (in-state)!

Did you apply there last year as well? I'm also a re-applicant, but I didn't apply there the first time around. I sent them an e-mail like a month ago and was told that my application had gone through the first two reviews but still had to go through a third review, but that it might take a month or so. Don't really know what that means, but my guess is they look at it three times before rejecting it ... would be my pessimistic guess, but who knows.

Also with respect to Mizzou, I think you're right. I looked back at an earlier e-mail response I got from Judy Nolke (bc they didn't have complete folders the day I interviewed) and she said the committee meets on Thursday evenings. So even though they sent the e-mails 3rd Thursday of the month last year, I'm guessing it will be Fridays this year. So I guess we should all keep our fingers crossed for no e-mails tomorrow (unless things have changed).

I bet the first acceptance is really sweet, so definitely congrats, Jayhawk07. Actually, noelleruckman, if you don't mind sharing your thoughts on KU so far with the rest of us, I'd be interested to hear what you think of it so far as well.

Sure, what do you want to know? They've started a new curriculum this year, but so far the major hiccups were in the first block, foundations. I think they're gonna handle foundations a little different next year. I've been happy with KU, but then again, its hard to say because its all I've known. I generally don't go to class, but they've made it so that there is only three hours of lecture each day so even those that go to class have plenty of time to study. We have PBLs and histopathology, and some clinical stuff worked in to our afternoons, but there are a lot more afternoons free now than there were in foundations. They really packed the first module full of stuff, it was a bit much. However, they don't do anatomy right away, which I think is a good thing because it allowed us to adjust to med school before getting hit incredibly hard with anatomy. We start anatomy next month, but its split up over the different systems, (meaning next month is cardiovascular/pulmonary system and thats all we focus on till we have our thoracic test/lab practical in January, and then we go on to GI, etc. So we're not forced to memorize as much anatomy at once as those who just have "anatomy" as a course right away in August of M1.
We're currently in inflammation/immunity and I would have to say that I'm concerned for this test.... but we'll see how it works out. I'm not really loving the lecture/notes style of the guy in charge of this module, but maybe the test won't be as bad as I'm thinking. Other than this current module (realize that I'm just in my third, so I don't know how the rest is going to go) I've been very impressed with the instructors. They've been very willing to help us with any questions and just generally seem to want to help us succeed.

How about early clinical exposure? Contentment with facilities/area of the school? How do you like your classmates? Do you find them overly competitive or generally very friendly and easy to get along with? What if anything do you wish you could change thus far (more big-picture) about either the school or your med school experience? Thanks again.

We have monthly preceptor visits. Last month I did about as many histories as my preceptor did. We've learned how to do vitals. A lot of my classes are involved in Jaydoc which gives individuals a lot of clinical experience.
Facilities - I don't know, I'm satisified with them. A lot of the buildings are getting a little old, but they're also building a lot of new buildings and put on a new wing to the hospital.
Classmates are great, very helpful. I'm sure that changes year to year.
I was impressed by how real my classmates are. Spending time on SDN makes it seem like everyone is superman. Well, they're not. I feel like I fit in with my class, and I'm nothing to brag about. I'm sure there are a few geniuses in our class and a few individuals that have seen the world and worked in lots of research and had tons of clinical experience, but for the most part, my classmates are like me, individuals from farm communities, small towns, etc and haven't been published/volunteered in Africa etc. A lot of them are interested in rural and primary care which I've heard is rare in the uber competitive med schools.

That's basically what I was looking for in terms of a response. The lack of uber-competitiveness is really important to me. Thanks again.

Thanks for the insider's view on KU... very helpful!

hey there-

i am an M1 at Mizzou. I think most people got a phone call when they were accepted...at least i know i did and some other people. they do send a letter eventually. just thought you might want to know. feel free to ask me any questions. good luck!! oh and dont get discouraged if you dont get in the first round. they only accept 96 slots and then everyone else gets waitlisted...while most other med schools accept 1.5 to 2 times the size of their class. so even if you get on the waitlist, you still have a really good chance! GOOD LUCK

A phone call would be awesome. 😀 :luck:

So did anyone receive an email (or a phone call) this morning?

Anyone hear anything yet today? I haven't ...

Also on a completely unrelated note, free shipping on a Playstation 3 bought on e-Bay is a complete drop in the bucket given the current average sold price is like 3-5 K. Good job e-Bay.

I'm playing the system. Screened Judy's e-mail so it sends anything from her to the trash can. Rumor is if your inbox is empty, you are accepted...

Maybe I should try that. Still nothing ...

I think next week maybe.

Good luck this week, everybody...

I got the "you weren't picked this time, but maybe next time" email 5 minutes ago. Oh well, I'm not holding my breath on this one as OOS.

That makes three of us! Let's start a club...

At least we're consistent.

Lets hope this is the magic year for us that they finally end.

If we make a secret handshake to go with the shirts for the club, it will definitely improve all of our chances at getting accepted...

I got accepted! I got my letter Monday (dated 11/17, interviewed 11/13)! What a quick turn-around!

Anyways, I refrained from posting earlier b/c I didn't want to sound like I was bragging or anything. I wish you guys the best of luck next meeting. I think getting our interviews done early will definately help.

Depakote: What exactly is "Hollywood Upstairs"?? I see it in your shirt page and am lost on that reference...

Holllywood Upstairs Medical College is the alma matter of one of the best physicians ever to wield a scalpel.
