U of T Pharmacy 2010

I was asking about the new cutoffs to adcom and they told me that there is a gpa cutoff for marks in chemistry courses that's done via computers but they wouldn't reveal the cut off.

What were some of the chem avgs that ppl got accepted with? cuz I am really worried because I have a 80% cgpa average but I got a 65% in chm138 last year:scared:

thanks

Are the chemistry courses weighed more heavily or it's just the cgpa that they are looking at for interview selection? I'm not sure what the chemistry averages were last year but I'm guessing maybe they look at the PCAT chem more than the other sections...

Hopefully some of last years accepted students will put up their chem marks so we can get some sort of idea.

thanks

Chemistry is probably weighted more heavily, but nobody knows for sure. Again, I had an A in second-year organic chem, and a 99th percentile in chemistry on the PCAT, but my cgpa was nothing special.

I had like mid-70s in first year physical and organic chemistry. cGPA on the low side, but I had a 91 composite PCAT.

How significant is the interview performance relative to cGPA and PCAT scores when determining if an applicant is accepted or not? For example, suppose an applicant has >3.7 cGPA after 1 or 2 years of undergrad and a >95 composite but their interview performance indicate that their attributes are not ideally suited for pharmacy. Would it drop the applicant's chances from nearly guaranteed acceptance to waitlist/rejection? Also, how are the interviews? Do they give scenarios and applicants are asked about how they would resolve or react in those situations? Thanks.

In the extreme case of it, I think it would, due to many factors I won't get into. But nobody knows for sure.

Details about the MMI are posted here: http://www.pharmacy.utoronto.ca/about/news.htm.

As with any other professional school admissions process, there is no such thing as a guaranteed acceptance. I personally know several people with 4.0 CGPA's who were not accepted.

Wow. I'm assuming their PCAT's were garbage ??

omg
why does Jan PCAT registration say that it may take additional 2 weeks to process our transcript when ordering now?
arent we still far from deadline?

No...
I know few ppl who had excellent GPA but didnt make it because of one section.

it's easy to get the score lower than 3 and 2.5 for esasy in PCAT by chance...essay marks can be very random.

um why do you need a transcript

if I'm not wrong when you signed up for the pcat you specify u of t as one of your score recipients and you should be fine

For those of you who have submitted their toronto application.. when you get your applicant id number.. it comes out to be something like 2010#### with the last four digits varying for each applicant. Are those last four digits the application number? or are they some random number?

There are ALOT of applicants this year 🙁 the number went up :'( im soooo sad.. I hope i didnt jinx it :scared:

Hopefully this is not the case.... 🙁

um im not sure if that number would be the number of applicants though. i mean would someone really have their number as #20100001?

I forgot to add schools!
I tried to order a new transcript request for UofT on Jan PCAT
and these warning signs written in red scare me... (and yeah, to my anxiety, my id is also horrorboy...haha)

"If you are ordering an Official Transcript for a pending test, the request may not be processed until two weeks after scores are sent out. "

dont the scores have to be sent directly ?

dont the scores have to be sent directly ?

yeah,
the ideal situation wouldve been sending the score directly from $150 registration...which comes with 3 schools for free...
but I forgot to add schools for score recipients ( i thought i did)

Anyways, I ordered a new transcript request for Jan PCAT to send the score to UofT, and I am not sure how long it will take for them to send the score.

it says extra 2 weeks compared to ppl who put their schools down directly from initial registration.

Did you contact Pearson? Maybe there is a rush fee you can pay to get the transcript to toronto in less than two weeks.

Theres always a way... just might be more costly.

good luck.

ps.... for the others.. what does 'imo' stand for?

Hi guys, I'm a first year at Carleton.
I scored 82 percentile on October PCAT but my writing scores were 2.5/2,5 🙁 Are the cutoffs for writing section remaining at 3.0/2.5?

And to EyeCandy, worst comes to worst, cancel your application, pay the fee, and apply again.

I don't think UofT would be that stupid to give away the number of applicants like this!

lol come again? What are you talking about?

Hi Cheesecake,
i think you are talking to me.

Yeah, I thought about doing it and actually tried it to see what happens.
I found that Pearson site gives you the same automatic msg of 2 weeks delay to everybody.

Thanks!

Hey I know today is the last day to apply, but I was waiting for exams to finish to decide.

I am currently im second year at UTM and my gpa is not very high (3.0) but I am thinking of applying considering that many people last year got in with even a 2.8 or 2.9 because of the large drop in applicant numbers. I also havent written the pcat yet, and am registering for the jan test,

Do you guys think that if I achieve a high pcat score I will have a chance? Or would I be wasting $300? Anyone know someone who was accepted with a not-so high gpa? I would appreciate any feedback.

I really hope the total number of applicants is reflected in 20101###. Haha.
And I also think the cutoffs for the writing subscores aren't going to go down. So I think you might have to take the PCAT in January.

just submitted my application (I know, very last minute!)

I sure hope that the last 3 digits of our applicant ID are the number of applicants this year...haha.

hey i have a question about transcript. if we're u of t students, they just want us to provide our student # and we don't have to mail it? what about high school transcript (for ENG4U, SPH4U)? thanks.

haha thats dreaming a bit too much lol

no i think its the last FOUR digits... what would the 1 mean then? 2010#### and #### is probably the applicant number

bummer, its way more than last year

Well, no one knows for sure right? All we can now is just speculate. And I seriously doubt ~twice as many people are applying this year.

So now we just wait.. until March 19th? so FOUR months.. with NOTHING? :scared:

i hate this lol

omg i'm wondering if i should retake the PCAT.

I'm second year at UofT 3.9 cgpa (yay for all the geo courses boosting my mark)

october pcat

Verbal Ability 91
Biology 89
Reading Comprehension 86
Quantitative Ability 95
Chemistry 95
Composite 89

Writing Scores 3/3

i have a feeling i can improve my biology score

Save your money, your pcat is good enough, provided they don't raise the essay minima. Assuming you have all prereq's and won't botch the interview, see you at phrosh week 😛

Wow, these forums are full of useful information. There's one thing I wasn't able to find, however, which I hope someone can help me out with.

I'm in my first year at York applying to UT. I've read and been told that books like Kaplan cover enough organic chemistry for the PCAT, but not general chemistry. In my first semester chemistry course we only covered gases, thermochemistry, phases, and atomic and molecular structure. Could someone tell me which other general chemistry topics would be necessary or most useful for me to learn on my own?

Many thanks and good luck to all.

Hi,

From what I remember (i wrote in june) the following chem topics were tested:

  • stoichiometry, balancing equations, simple calculations
  • thermochem
  • electrochem
  • orgo (reactions and nomenclature)
  • molecular structures (lewis diagrams)
  • collision theory and such
All of the chemistry was veryyyy basic! I would not worry at all. I had enough time to go through it all again. Here is a link to some practice problems online.. these are the types of questions you will find. No need to worry.

http://www.pcatprepinfo.com/pcat_chemistry_practice.htm

Make sure you order the Kaplan book and do the practice problems there. I'm telling you it is very easy.

Good luck!

Is the Chemistry portion really that easy? I've just finished a first-year chemistry course, covering electrochem, atomic structures, equilibrium, thermo, and gibbs. Am I adequately prepared?

As well, how hardcore and indepth is the organic chem? I intend to self-study for that and would like to know the amount of preparation I need.

easy peasy

orgo wasnt too detailed.. i think i had 3 questions.. the thing is every test is different.. i suggest u buy the pearson tests.. i didnt.. but im sure it would help alot!

Orgo is as in dept as high school orgo (e.g naming simple organic compounds like alkanes, knowing the different groups, some of the bond angles etc)

Really? Then why do people tend to say that I need to know S1/S2 and E1/E2 reactions? o.o

dunno, kind of hard to believe there are 1700 applicants this year but with the requirments changing next year why not... i'm not gonna give out my applicant number but ill just say its near 2010xxxx, xxxx being close to 1700 and i signed up the day before the last day...

if there is 1700 applicants great... more competition 😀

I sent in my application around the same time too and my number is closer to 1900....lol

wow! some stiff competition this year! that four digit number is definetly the applicant number unless the 1 in 20101 is there for nothing. there will definetly be a crazy raise in PCAT cutoff since only 240 spots.

Maybe its like a double cohort this year.. since alot of people who didnt get in last year are applying this year with a better PCAT.

makes it all worthwhile knowing once we get in that there was a crazy applicant pool and we made it through!👍🙄

I sent in my application around the same time too and my number is closer to 1900....lol

I submitted like 3 hours before the deadline and I was close to number 20102000 lol....if thats the number of applicants (2000) than I have noo chance of getting in cuz I am from out of province.. 🙁

Its hard to believe that there were only 1000 applicants last year and now theres 2000....crazy

FML FML

hopink, did u apply last year? its my first time applying :scared:

No i didn't apply to UFT last year. I read somewhere in an article or something that the application pool dropped from 1600 in 2008 to 1000 in 2009 after they added the pcat.....hard to believe that it might be as high as 2000 this year :S

I applied last year.. and *sigh* I got placed on the waiting last but didn't end up getting in because of my low pcat score :bang: It clearly seemed like pcat is weighted way more heavily than cGPA.

ANyways!! I applied last year around november and my applicant id was similar to "2009-1200", and there were only 1000 (I think it was ~990. not sure)

so...as far as I know, the last four digits do not represent the number of applicants,

I'm in the same boat as you, hotpink. I'm from OOP. so it's gonna be much harder for us.

Yeah i know 🙁...theres only a max of 10% for OOP, so thats like 24 spots? Hopefully people who are OOP won't wanna fly to uft for the interview lol...increase our chances lol
