I just recieved an early October interview from the U of Wisconsin, even though I haven't sent in my secondary there. I'm really glad, but is this typical? If not, what does it mean? I had a 32S MCAT and a good GPA on the primary app, so maybe that had something to do with it...?

May I ask when you sent in your primary?

I think i sent the primary in around June 20th.

OK, can I ask people to post here if you've gotten a secondary from UW-Madison yet? I actually interviewed there last year, and was told I would have a fairly good chance this year if I made a few improvements and applied early. I sent in my AMCAS June 23, and haven't heard anything yet. I called a week ago and the admissions person said "they must still be reviewing your file." Do they screen extra hard for re-applicants? I designated Illinois residency on AMCAS, but I will have WI residency since I went to HS there and my parents still live there. Maybe that's the problem. I am going to call again after Labor Day, but in any event, any in- or out-of-staters who got secondaries, PLEASE post here! It's driving me nuts since this school was my best shot last year!

i'm not sure if they screen harder for re-applicants, but on the secondary this year they have a section that says you are "REQUIRED to submit a statement indicating what has changed" since last time. i recieved the secondary about two weeks after the AMACS notified me that they had process my app. if i were you, i'd get a straight answer from the admissions people if possible. i'm dead set on Wisconsin, and if you don't mind me asking, what were your GPA and MCAT when you didn't make it in last year? also, does anyone know if they grant interviews to all in-staters, or if it is normal to be granted an interview before sending in the secondary app? thanks all

Hey tyshdogg,

I interviewed last March (didn't send my secondary in until December--oops) and in my group of 15-20, all but one were WI residents. I think they interview most qualified WI residents; the consensus from interviewfeedback.com was that UW now interviews a huge number of people overall, which is a change in their admissions methods. I'm not sure about getting an interview before completing the secondary, though.

My stats were 3.2/34, one year out of school working in a biotech company. The main things that kept me out, judging by the interviewers' emphasis on them, were several low grades (in science and engineering classes) and a lack of health care experience (I wasn't a premed so my extracurricular's weren't in health care). I'm trying to right those things and get in this year--Wisconsin was the only school to give me a good look last year, so you can understand why I'm anxious that they're the ONLY school I haven't heard from.

Best of luck to you, tyshdogg!

Good news--I got my secondary in the mail yesterday!

Might I also say that I love Wisconsin's residency policy! Even though went to school and work full-time in Illinois, I will have Wisconsin residency consideration since I graduated from high school there and my parents still live there. This gives me in-state consideration in Wisconsin AND Illinois med schools. I'll need it! Good luck again to everyone.

After not hearing anything from UW-Madison for two months, I got a secondary a little while ago, and then an interview invitation even before I sent my secondary back. What's up with that? They put my primary under review forever, then they decide I'm good enough to interview without seeing my secondary? At any rate, I'm very fortunate and very happy. Good luck to everyone.
