I know there is already a thread for U Pitt secondaries, but I was offered an interview today 😀 ! Did this happen to anyone else? I received the secondary today, followed by a second e-mail inviting me to an interview before I even fill out the secondary. Is this crazy? Has anyone ever heard of this sort of thing? I am a CA resident.

I've never heard of that. I know Vandy sends secondaries only to people they're going to interview but I didn't know Pitt offered interviews to people before they filled out the secondary.

I could understand if their secondary was like, "Fill in this blank with the school name and send us $100" but Pitt's ain't that easy 😛

The admissions office picks a hundred or so applicants each year who they find exceptional in some way/ways and offers interview invites pre-secondary. Don't blow off the secondary, though.

June 28th? Somewhere around there... The interview invite came more than a day after the secondary invite, but I don't know how that really works...

i think schools look through apps in the order they were verified.

Doctor Octopus said only about 100 or so get this type of invite every year, and i'd say at least 10-12 people on SDN have already received this email.

Even if the presecondary interviewee's get an advantage in getting an acceptance, which I doubt is anything serious, I don't think Pitt counts on all of them matriculating. So chill out, its not the end of the world.

To make some people feel better- I took the August MCAT last year and got the pre-secondary interview invite in late November last year.

I think it was the S on the MCAT writing sample...

don't blow off the secondary just because you didn't get the auto-invite. i never got the auto-invite...and i interviewed on one of their last interview dates in Feb, was waitlisted in april...and got off the waitlist at the end of May. (however, i am not gonna be going there this fall) so don't give up, and just be patient till the end!

I also got the early interview invite. My AMCAS application was processed about June 20, and I received the Pitt secondary on July 22. Then yesterday I got the early invite. I think it's my 3.99 and 37Q... But I don't think getting invited early in and of itself means terribly much.

if you don't get a pre-secondary interview, don't worry! Pitt was one of the last secondaries i did last year. I ended up interviewing in mid january and was accepted. I underestimated pitt before my interview, but ended up absolutely loving it. It's an awesome place!

Yeah, I read elsewhere on these forums of folks who got the early Pitt invite and then didn't get it. It's debatable how much it's worth, but we'll just see how things go.

I can attest that the early interview doesn't mean auto-acceptance. I got it, had a "normal" interview, and didn't get accepted. it certainly can't hurt, but don't put too much stock in it.

happened to me when i was applying to medical school. pitt sent me a letter offering me an interview before i filled out secondary. they did not accept me in the end - i must have really sucked (it was my first interview). funny though, i was accepted at "better" schools. good luck

I was offered an early interview last year. Don't freak out about time . . . my AMCAS wasn't verified until September 10th.

Someone else wanted to know the time span between getting the secondary and the interview invite . . . I got the secondary on a Thursday (9/18/2003) and the interview invite the following Monday (9/22/03). However, I have heard of some applicants being notified within hours of getting the secondary. Therefore, I don't really know if there is a "set" time frame.
