I interviewed at U-Washington a few Mondays ago and yes, the dinner was at Black Bottle -- you're supposed to have RSVP-ed to the coordinator the Friday before -- if you didn't, I think it will matter because there were a ton of people there anyway. They do pretty large sized interviews (I had about 16 on my day). A lot of the residents come to dinner and they were very friendly and cool. You have to go to the back left part of the restaurant to find the large UW group and usually the host(ess) can lead you there.
The interview starts at 7:30 a.m. at the conference room. If you are driving-- leave a little bit early because it was still really dark when I was driving at 7 a.m. that day and you have to really pay attention to the parking lot sign. I think I got out between 1 and 2 p.m.
Also, if you park there, DO NOT TAKE your parking permit with you -- leave it on your dashboard (as is instructed in the email). I thought I needed it validated and I took it to the interview with me. Then I came back at the end of the day and found a $30.00 ticket on my dashboard. I was going to contest it but I've become super lazy this M4 year so I just reluctantly sent in a check.
Anyway, the new chair there is from Duke and I think she's really turning the program around. My impression is that the program was very strong at one point and then took a downturn in the mid 90's when most programs were tanking. I think it's still a strong program -- but OHSU is probably the strongest program in the Pacific Northwest.
There was a short tour of the main medical center -- their county, VA, and children's hospitals are not close enough to walk to. Pretty nice facilities at the main medical center -- but then again it was one of my last interviews and all hospitals pretty much start to look the same. The only hospitals that have impressed me during interviews were OHSU for the view and the awesome "bean in the sky" aerial tram and Northwestern -- the Four Seasons of hospitals. Even if I don't live in Chicago in the future, I would mind going to their women's hospital to have a baby there some day. 🙂
