I am just a little curious. How many of the Canadian students plan to practice pharmacy in the US after graduation? I have heard that compensation for pharmacists isn't too great in Canada? Is there any truth to this?

UBC is a highly reputable institution by the way.

could anyone who recieved an invite post their stats

If you are content with $70-80 K per year (with lower cost of living in most Canadian cities than American cities, mind you), you don't have to go and practice in the States. The American dollar is roughly equivalent to the Canadian dollar currently anyways. I plan to stay in Canada and practice here (rejected offer from Albany College of Pharmacy to start a 3-year program in May 2007).

UBC is highly reputable, but so is University of Toronto, University of Alberta, etc. As a whole, Canadian pharmacy schools are way more competitive than American pharmacy schools.

The cost of living in the US is WAY lower than in Canada...

Taxes are way higher here, things are much more expensive here, insurance is more, stores arent open 24/7 etc...

I agree, but I was talking in context of cities where people usually prefer to move to (i.e. New York, Chicago, etc.). There is no way you can tell me that cost of living is lower in those places than Toronto, for example.

So which date are you guys picking?

The population of new york is 8 million, the population of Toronto is 2.5.

need I say more?

I have picked 27th and 28th, but I won't mind if it's either of the four scheduled days as long as the time slot is in the afternoon.

Blaze, no, you do not need to say more. It's a choice of personal preference after all. Let's stick to UBC admissions for now, and we will discuss things later 👍 .

Did anyone here apply to University of Toronto's Leslie Dan faculty of Pharmacy for fall 2007? If so, could you please post your stats (gpa, ec) and how many times you have applied before? Thanks.

this is about UBC pharmacy, not Toronto!

hey texasBlaze

I know this thread is for UBC, but chances are that UBC people have applied for U of T as well so it doesn't hurt to ask.

But...I have started a U of T thread so yeah chill axe UBC people.. I'll take my U of Toronto questions elsewhere!!

Anyone get their interview time yet?

Does anybody want to meet up and practice for the interview? I live in Vancouver, just PM me if you want to meet, maybe a group of us can practice together...

WOW, I've been looking at this website and I forgot I created this post. I heard the good news that I will be having an interview too. This would be my second interview. I had one last year also, unfortunately I didn't get accepted. I am a little bit nervous because the interview is in a couple of weeks. How are you guys preparing for your interviews? 🙂

i wonder...what are we all planning to wear at our ubc interview?

I am having some problems finding something to wear, my sisters think my proposed outfit is not right for an interview.

I just plan on wearing a shirt with tie and pants

well i've been hearing we (guys) should be wearing nothing less than a suite...but i've been thinking that might be alittle overkill?

I don't know about you guys.. but I'm gonna put on my penguin suit (nice tux)..

Seriously, what is the norm for males and females...

I think it will be

Male: Tailored suit with belt and tie, with dress shoes

Female: Tailored suit with pants or skirt, no tie, no belt, with high heels

Please correct me if I am wrong

i ve posted a thread about me that checked the NO SSN when registering for pcat but i realized that SSN is for US and SIN is for canda and since all of you are canadian i should come here...

ok here s the problem..

i registered for pcat last week and they asked SSN or NO SSN.. "If you check the No SSN checkbox, your scores may not be accepted by Pharm CAS even if you choose Pharm CAS as a score recipient,"said on the site. so since i didnt have SSN i checked no SSN. WHAT SHOULD I DO000🙁

hmm right now i'm just procrastinating. taking summer courses, finals next week.

i chek this page about 10 times a day 😀 cuz i ll be in same situation as you in one year..another reason is most of you are goin for ubc 😀

I'm getting bored in here...

I'm getting bored in here...

since you'r bored i have some questions😀

is canadian pcat different from american pcat?...i say that because i see people from US all worrying about organic section...they say that they should take organic 1 and 2 to be able to answer organic questions on chem section...but what i know is that UBC doesn't require orgo chem for pharmacy so does that mean PCAT only asks orgo questions from that small bit from general chem 1?....or eventhough ubc doesnt require orgo we should take it to be able to answer the pcat orgo...WHAT DO U GUYS THINK?did you take orgo 1 and 2 before u took pcat or it wasnt needed?

jus to let u know i m aiming for over 90 on chem and ive only taken general chem 1 and 2.😎

PCAT's are the same across north america. It had a little bit of UBC chem 123 (genchem2) and a bit from chem 233 .. it would definately be easier if you had the chem 233 background.. but you should manage fine with just regular gen chem 2

although organic isnt part of the ubc's pharm prerequisite, its a required course that you have to take in first year pharmacy. it helps to know a bit about orgo for the pcat. when i wrote the pcat, i pretty much had no organic background and it ended up being one of my worst sections even though i average in the high 90s for general chem 1 and 2. however i do know people who do very well on the organic section without any previous knowledge.

I just got my interview time, did anybody else?

thnx guys . i m taking the augest pcat(in two months) and i'll see what happens...if i dont do well on the chem section i'll take the organic1 in fall and retake pcat😎

Hey we're in the same situation then. *Also applying for the 2008 cycle* I'm writing the PCAT in October though.. I really hope PCATs are not the same nation-wide. Some of the sample essay topics I've seen were about the US Medical Plan system.. o_o

im not surprised. i remember having to write about "how the us govn can reform certain laws in order to improve the quality of life for the average american" or something along those lines. i pretty much had to BS my way through the whole thing 😀

YEP. i saw the UBC website saying that they only consider the COMPOSITE SCORE which means writing section doesnt matter. i dono i think alot of schools dont care about writing section. whatdoyouthink?

guys can you please say what your GPA(in %) was when you got the interview and how much volunteering hours you had or what is the amount of vol. experience. to be considered a very competitive applicant. and your pcat score with each section.

i jus wanted to know if i have a chance because i saw the ubc website that said the average of ppl who got in in 2006 was 80% and their pcat was 89% composite.is it really true?

yuo dnot hvae to sya yuor sttas if yuo dnot wnat to:meanie:

I don't think UBC actually cares about the verbal/writing sections. Most people I've spoken to who got into UBC Pharmacy said that they almost failed those sections (but had amazing marks in Math/Chem/Bio). I just don't think it's fair when the essay topics are about based on American society (my friend got the topic of how to get more US citizens to vote). 😡

I actually wouldn't worry too much about the PCAT.. A lot of people seem to be getting scores in the 90 percentile so getting a score above 89% shouldn't be that hard if you study really hard..
I am, however, extremely worried about the average on pre-reqs. Chem 233 =(

Hey, dont worry soo much about the PCAT. It is just an overrated exam/scam used by most north american pharmacy schools to increse revenue.

I wrote the PCAT in Jan 07 and scored 89 overall, with 3/5 on the writing section

My topic was just about bullying in North American schools...

I did horribly on the reading/verbal sections, and got stellar marks on the sciences (93+) on all sections, and I got an interview invite.

So dont sweat it, just study hard, and do your best...

Anyone else really nervous about the upcoming interview :scared:?

hello everyone! nice to meet you all (new to this thread 😛)
I too have gotten my interview date which is on June 26th =)
How is everyone preparing for his/her interview? Any resources to recommend? 🙂

Who else is getting nervous? The thought of rejection is really getting to me...

What would rejection do to you?

What would acceptance do to you?

QQCherry: Just preparing by getting mock interviews from friends that were accepted recently within the past couple years heh

TBlaze: rejection is getting to me too man, I was rejected last year and was devastated... another rejection = massive depression, acceptance = dropping outta nursing school the same day and relaxing the rest of the break! 👍

Did anyone NOT get an interview invite? I wonder how many ppl applied, how many got an invite, etc...

Does anyone have these stats?

i know what you mean fungman. i had an interview last year also and i didn't get accepted. just knowing how close you were just made it more devastating. i really hope we get in this year. i dont want to wait another year. :S
