do u have to write an essay in ur interviews?

how many questions did they ask? around 5 i guess?

more like 20 questions.. some of them just required short and concise answers, others required more lengthy descriptions/examples

oh! were you prepared for all of them?

In UBC pharmacy, whats the standard for laptops/pda's/etc in class?

Does everyone have them? Do you need them?

I have a laptop that I always bring with me to school, just wondering what people do...

A laptop is an asset, not a requirement.

Some ppl take notes with laptops, but most do not. We get print outs of powerpoint slides (profs use Powerpoint), and you just take extra notes (when needed) on the side. Most profs also put the powerpoint slides on their website so you can review after class. For some courses, profs will post notes/readings on the course website as well (webCT).

Bringing your laptop to school may be a good idea. For example, PHAR299, you'll need to type up reports every two weeks; so having you laptop handy will allow you to use your breaks efficiently.

FYI, we have a computer lab for pharmacy students 🙂 Along with cheap coffee hehe~~~

Good luck to everyone who have their interviews today. It's the last day of interviews! And then...we wait.

anyone else starting to freak out about results... I know i did better.. maybe I'm just holding myself to too high of a standard..

Just out of curiosity, what are people going to do to celebrate if they get accepted this year?

drop all my courses and start my new job full time..
20bucks/hr 5days/week
and my old job 10.50/hr 2 days/week (because I actually enjoy it)

when my girlfriend returns we are probably going to go on an Alaskan cruise getaway in august for about a week before school starts!

man oh man, getting really nervous. my interview is in exactly 3 hours :S

Wow, that is one of the last interviews...
Do you think that is an advantage/disadvantage?

Anyways, how early are you going to go, I went a little too early... lol

Good luck.👍

i dont know if it would be an advantage or disadvantage....if i do it too early...they may not remember me...if i do it too late...they may have already seen great applicants....so who knows.

Yeah, Its difficult to guage...

I wonder how many people who interviewed are on SDN.

As of now I only know 6-7 people who are on SDN:

TexasBlaze
Tungster
FungmanX
EasterBunny
CamJames
Zohabib

Please add to this list if I forgot anyone

Do you guys know how many first years they usually accept? I've heard rumours that only around 15 first years were accepted last year.

I think this has to do with some inexperience of first years with life in general.. alot of them haven't really had much public communication, job interviews etc. So I think the ones that ARE accepted tend to be alot more outspoken and have had jobs where they interact with people in much more depth and know how the whole interview shebang goes

Anyways, I just received an acceptance from UBC Nursing ( Yes, I applied to both). Pharmacy is my first choice though.. so hopefully this one works out

Ok....now we wait.....😀

ya i had my interview thursday afternoon...nearly the last slot to go...now i can sit back and 'relax' like everyone else lol

ohh you were at 4:00?? hmm well did you see me when i came back from my interview? i remember seeing two guys still waiting when i came back...

Can someone please explain to me how this whole process works? I'm planning on applying for UBC pharmacy for Fall 2008. When will be the latest PCAT that I can write and what did you guys use to study for it?

Hey Kaizer, I did the PCAT in Jan 07

I scored an 89 overall: Heres how...

1) I studied from

Kaplan: overall solid review, good for chem/bio, bad for eng/math

Cliffs: The best book I used (5 practice exams) the exams are SOO close to the actual PCAT, its almost like they stole PCATs and put them in there, lol...

Barrons: Horrible book, nothing like the PCAT

REA flashcards: pretty solid, somewhat more difficult than the PCAT

2) I studied for about 5 months, increasing my time as the PCAT date neared. I had only 1st term of 1st year Science under my belt by the PCAT date.

3) Dont worry about the PCAT essay, UBC doesnt even look at it

4) Study hard, dont procrastinate

5) Good luck

i was one of the guys sitting..i was sitting to the right of you, wearing the black suit.

Thanks for the info. I'll definitely look into those books. So if you did the PCAT this January, you got an interview in June for the 2007 Fall session? Could you have taken the PCAT any later than June?

January 2008 is the latest time that you can take the PCAT if you're looking for admission for the 2008/2009 year. However, you can use your old PCAT score for several years if you've taken it already or if you're reapplying.

jan was the latest you can take the PCAT to apply for that year

Hey Texas, I already celebrated my U of Toronto acceptance! I really hope all UBC applicants on SDN get in though; best of luck to all you guys and girls.

Oh, I forgot... Great job on the acceptance, good luck

i was one of the guys sitting..i was sitting to the right of you, wearing the black suit.

haha no way...i remember u now...you were the one who got there half hour early or so and had to go to the bathroom?

camjames, that would be me. haha....

hey everyone, had my interview yesterday.......didn't have a great feeling when I left, but went okay, had some difficulty with a couple answers. does anyone know if they grade each individual answer that you respond to? I swear I saw a column of C's and D's that the interviewer recorded......i thought i had some really good replies to the questions. what else could that be?

I don't know if they mark them on the spot. From what I can tell, my interviewers were writing down what I was saying. I responded pretty quickly to each question though, so maybe they didn't have time. On another note, the pink paper that we got seemed to indicate that the results may come over the long weekend. Yikes!

they say that every year -.- but it actually always comes out the middle of next week

Does anyone here have a good estimate, whether they will get in or not?

I am trying to guess but I cant really say, since I dont know how well other people interviewed...

That's true, but the interview invitations were sent out on June 1 this year, whereas they were sent out around June 5 last year. I thought maybe the final results would show the same trend.

good point, hopefully your right because I'm dying to know the results as well

haha so we met and didn't even know it haha...and ya i had to pee too but i lost the urge with the adrenaline lol 🙄

i guess so.. 🙂
how do you think you did on your interview? mine started a little late. i think i ended around 4:38ish. i really hope everyone on sdn gets in. good luck everyone 🙂

guys since i'm applying for next year fall 2008, would you tell me the dates (the best dates) to apply--->what i mean is that to apply for the program, to send the personal letter, to send the reference letters, to send the resume(if required), and to send the grades and marks? it was many😀 so would you tell the best and earliest dates for each of those (what dates did you apply) please all of you share it...
thnx

one more thing, by 1st year student you mean a person that has finished 30 credits required? and its better to have more credits when applying(like being second or third year or even having a bachelors)----because this fall will be my seconf year but at the end of it i would be able to finish only my 30 credits..it took me 2 years(rather than 1 year)beacuse i had to work and volunteer to be more competitive...how did you guys do..you finished in one year or 2 years.....do they really like people with more credits or bachelors?

would all of you please give info ...i ll be in same situation as you in one year and i m feeling those butterflies in my stomach NOW..hope you get in

Well, basically the application starts in November and you have until Feb 28th to do it. So I guess you can submit your application whenever you want within this period. Applying earlier does not give you a better chance of being accepted.

oh, as long as you have all their prerequisite courses, and meet all their requirements, you should be able to apply.

I think it's really hard to tell. I guess we'll find out our fates in less than 1 week !!!!
