3rd year student... sort of
2 years UBC Sci undergrad (pre-reqs + Bioc 300) 2004-2006

Those stats are decent, how was the interview? did you know you were getting rejected after the interview, or did you think you were getting in?

I thought I messed up on maybe one or two questions but I didn't think that would mean a complete failure on my application.. but apparently it did. Honestly I thought I would have gotten in.. it came as a real shocker

Also I have an update on my stats
GPA- 3.8
PCAT-89
EC's-Hospital Pharmacy experience, volunteering, etc... (enough to get me in 🙂

Is it just me or is there a lot of confidence in these applicants to UBC?
Its not the same for the other major pharmacy school in Canada (toronto).
Yup, I'm applying for fall 2007 as well. I also wish they could do interviews earlier in the year so everyone could know more in advance what they will be doing in fall, but its not in our hands...anyways, we should post when (if) we get an interview date, and keep the interview tips coming lol 😉
Hey guys,
I'm new to this forum business, but a friend of mine recommended that I look them up. Unlike a lot of you, I don't have too much confidence about my chances. Many of the smartest people I know are also applying :S. Here are my stats, for those interested:
GPA: 87
PCAT: 97
Experience: Did a job shadow for a day, but no other pharmacy experience. Did some volunteer work in high school because of IB.
People in this forum seem really friendly and helpful. I hope we all get in!

You are kidding about not having too much confidence in those stats, right? Some people on this forum, sheesh.
Hey guys:
I am also applying for this yr's application. I applied last yr, got an interview but didn't make it in. 🙁
I don't have high hopes for this year's cycle either. Mainly because I had the worst marks in my 2nd yr... so now even as I managed to pull my marks way up it's too late!
seems like everybody that posted their stat are doing pretty well though?

No, I'm not kidding. I don't have enough extra curriculars and I suck at interviews! I'm pretty confident that I'll get an interview...but like I said...I suck at those😱

Well if your not confident with those stats, i'd be questioning whether or not you should even be applying lol 😛 Either way, my suggestion is to apply to a few low end jobs, even if you don't want a job, in hopes to snag a few interviews just to get the feel of how they go. Supposedly the pharmacy school interviews are similar to job interviews, but based on pharmacy stuff of course and your personal motives...just my two cents
Hello everyone,
So how about we stop evaluating our competition and we start actually doing something constructive, ie. get more info about what they want to hear during the interview, some sample questions might be quite relevant at this point in time! The interview invitations are almost here! sigh

I dont think they will contact your references until after your interview, It would be too much work for them to do that for every applicant, knowing that most of them will be rejected.
Even so, I dont think that they will contact both for each applicant unless they look fishy.
Anyways, Is anyone else nervous about interview invites in a few weeks?
The probability of getting an interview is approx. 250/600 = 41.666%
The probability of getting accepted once you get an interview is approx 150/250 = 60%
So if you get an interview, chances are good 🙂

Do you guys know which day exactly they're notifying us about interviews? I only read "first week of June" in the e-mail. Eek! Scared! *bites nails*
Who answered? When I called, this lady called Margaret picked up and she seemed nice enough.yup, i'm applying this year.
im getting rather antsy, i tried phoning to enquire about my references letters, but the lady who answered the phone was terribly rude and basically told me off for even phoning. eek!
PPL. please post your stats so we can all see how we measure up

Haha you sound like me last year... Stats don't really mean that much I've realized.. it really IS the interview that makes/breaks you so don't worry too much about competition.. once your at the interview you're all pretty much on equal ground.
By the way, Last year invites came out on June 8th.

What do you mean 85%.
Do you mean that 85% of your application weight is the interview itself?
By the way, how was the interview, what kind of questions do they ask and how are they evaluating you?
does anybody know of any good interview prep sites/resources?

85% of a perfect interview score. as for the actual interview, everyone should be prepared for at least one ethics question. they omitted it from last years interviews but i heard they were bringing them back. no guarantees so take it for what its worth

The average interview score was only 82 I believe... 3% lower than what you said.. but still fairly high..
Ok ppl, interview invites are just around the corner, please post on this thread when you recieve the invite and what is says (excluding personal info ofcourse)

I wonder how many ppl they will invite this year?
Anyways, according to my calculations, anyone who recieves an invite now has a 60% chance of acceptance

I also wonder if the interview is closed or not?
Ooo...I just saw it in my inbox right now! I almost had a heart attack because at first I didn't see it...and it was there XD. Good luck everyone!
How does one prepare for this interview?
Are prep courses available?
Just prep like you would for a regular job interview.. they've only asked clinical questions once, but I think they took it out because it wasn't a fair question for most applicants at the time..?
I also wonder if the interview is closed or not?
Hey Blaze, can you elaborate on the term "closed interview"? I swear I haven't come across it before.
By the way, I got an invitation as well. There goes another 600 bucks 🙁 (Toronto resident).
closed interview means that the interviewer (UBC) cannot look at your file (your grades/pcat/ec's/etc) while interviewing you.
This forces the person to make judgements about you based on your personality/confidence and answers alone.

Thanks for clearing that up. I'm sure they are provided with the essays we sent along with the application though. Do you have any information with that regard?
