I know, for some reason I feel more pressure and excitement for this one than any other interview. What day are you interviewing? I am interviewing the afternoon of the 8th (Monday), so I'll be there from Sunday afternoon to Tuesday morning. Maybe we can meet up for dinner along with some of these lovely first years (and nyanko? will you be around?).

I definitely feel more excited about this interview! Luckily I have two successful ones under my belt, so at least I've had some practice!

I have my interview first thing Tuesday morning, but I'll be spending the evening before visiting my sister, who attends Sonoma State. Since I'm going to school in St. Louis, this is a rare chance for us to see each other during the school year.

Hopefully we'll all meet soon, though, as members of the Davis class of 2014 :xf::luck::xf:

Ain't no cruisin' from up there. Well, maybe to see Alaska or something, but... we're saving glaciers for when we're old and boring. :d

I will meet you someday, though, my pink haired friend. SAVMA? Mebbe?

SAVMA SYMPOSIUM 2011 - U C DAVIS - BE THERE ! 😎

sorry, i'm on the planning committee, i gotta hype it every chance i get.

just got back in from a long and nice weekend up in davis, sf, and berkeley. wanted to thank all the sdners for their helpfulness, and esp. to justcats who gave me a ride to my interview. i think overall it went ok/good, and it went by fast. they didn't give me a chance to ask any questions unfortunately, but i was able to get a tour of the school, which really wowed me compared to what i've seen at ksu and western. hopin for some good news in these next few weeks.

good luck to those of you interviewing this week!

New here, I've been in hiding for a while but finally signed up. Davis native but I go to school elsewhere, so I already know I love the school. Going to the interview orientation and workshop made me fall in love with the school that much more, the students are amazing and so friendly! Definitely something I want to be a part of. 🙂 I think I was sitting in front of you, Nyanko, at least during the orientation part!! My interview is this Monday and I am so nervous and excited at the same time. From what people have said here it seems the time flies by, but I hope I take the time to think through my answers. I've been practicing in front of the mirror, in the car, when walking to school, I think I've scared off all my friends by now.

Good luck to everyone who has already interviewed and everyone yet to go!!

Anyone besides nyanko up for dinner Sunday or Monday?

Moosenanny, have fun with your sister. Mine's in Boulder, CO, a little too far out of the way to visit. 🙁

Any recommendations on where a bird nerd could go for a little outdoor de-stressing?

Eventualeventer, you should go to the arboretum. It's part of campus and is really beautiful, it has a small lake with paths surrounding it and gardens and big lawns. The bird species there aren't too exciting, but there are birds there.

You could also go to Vic Fazio if you really want some hard core birdwatching time, it's a few miles past Davis down 80, by the causeway.

Depending on how prepared I'm feeling for our GI final that week, I might be up for something, that is if first years are welcome 😉. What were you thinking?

I was thinking that any SDN'ers who are around and don't mind hanging out with someone from the wrong coast 😛 could come and show me where the locals eat. <-- doesn't bite, also a major foodie

ZebraFinch, thanks for the tips. I don't know if I'll have the time/transportation to make it to Vic Fazio, but *drool*. I guess it's getting close to spring migration time here in MD, but they're still forecasting wintery mix crap and there's snow on the ground. 🙁

No problem. Sorry my vehicle is a mess. 😳

I'm glad you liked Davis and I hope we'll see you this fall. :luck:

Make it a late Sunday dinner (after 6pm) and I might be in too! I want to do the feral cat clinic in Sacramento.

Well if everyone else is brave enough to venture out before a test, i am, too.

Wow, I'm impressed with the number of responses. I'll give people another day or two to respond, then make a mega PM for swapping phone numbers, etc. So, does Sunday night sound better for people? I'll be flying in Sunday afternoon, so that works for me.

Until I hear otherwise, I'm a reject too you know. 😉

As far as I'm concerned you are welcome!

Same here -- just waiting to be rejected from UC Davis, Minnesota, and MSU, and my reject-hood will be complete for the year. 🙂

TT, you seem to miss all of the SDN parties. :d

I actually answered a question wrong about the origin of a cat breed but was not called on it. Not sure if the interviewer didn't KNOW that it was wrong or was just trying to let me dig a hole, but uh, oops! I did say that I didn't know the answer to the following question, soo... 🙄

Other than that (which I didn't realize until I got back to the lab) I think it went pretty well. I wasn't really asked anything about any of my clinical experience or current issues in vet med or anything. It was mostly about my research, academic history, goals and who I am as a person. No idea if that's good or bad, but it is what it is.

Good luck to everyone who still has to go and everyone who already went!!

Oh gosh nyanko when will they let you know?! I thought today wad tour interview but I wasn't 100% sure! I think it's ok they asked about your research. I think that's good. And I don't think answering one thing wring is bad.... God good luck good luck good luck!!!:luck:

haha, thanks! It's out of my hands now...if that was enough to sink me then the worst that happens is I start a Ph.D. so it isn't a horrible spot to be in.

To be fair, the breed origins question wasn't directly pertaining to my own research, but some done by a former student in our lab that I'm collaborating with on something tangential. The country I said begins with the same letter as the one the breed's actually from, but I was thinking of a different project and different breed. I debated for a second emailing the professor and being like "OOOOOH I messed that up.." but that would probably be an insane thing to do and I am only a little bit of an insane person. 😉

Hindsight is 20/20, but I am sure that you had a wonderful interview! I am the same way, obsessing and over-analyzing every answer and dissecting everything I said at the interview. Of course, we all have to know the answer to the most important question...did you keep your pink hair for the interview?

I dyed it black yesterday. I missed a spot so I had to pull it back, and the black definitely has a sort of purple tinge to it. Oh well. 😳

The waiting now that I've interviewed is killing me...

I moved to California in 2007 so that I would be a resident for Davis. I waited until I thought I was ready (this year) to apply. I interviewed-- think it went pretty well but it would be really nice to know for certain-- and now i am waiting to hear back.

Im 25 and I've wanted to go to Davis Vet School since I was 10. Its been a looooooooooooong wait. I suppose three weeks more wont kill me but time has gone from crawling, to inching to stagnating. Im sure there are plenty of you out there that feel the same way, I just wanted to vent to an understanding crowd 🙂.

If I do get in I wonder what I will have to fixate on.. Davis has been a dream for so long it has graduated to fairytale status, somewhere between frog princes and talking donkeys.

My interview is over - overall I think it went fine. Now I'm just trying to not overanalyze it!

This campus is beautiful. I've never been up here before now. I also give two sugary thumbs up to the jellybelly factory. 10lbs of belly flops for $30. Can't beat that!

I'd like to join you all on Sunday, but my interview is the next day and going out for dinner may not be the wisest idea, I think home cooking would be a safe bet.

Nyanko, that's neat that they asked you about cat breeds, I'm sure they were impressed you even had an answer.

Congrats, Quantized! I hope you hear good results in a few weeks. 🙂 Does anyone know who their interviewers have been? I'm interested in who they have on the panel this year, simply for curiosity's sake.

Okay, I think I am going to have to officially get a restraining order for this thread...after receiving my rejection from UCDavis, first I hear that the students are making an awesome video for interview orientation, then I hear all about the San Diego Zoo and of course, the wildlife park, the beautiful campus, all of the good Mexican restaurants and margaritas, and now CANDY???? Man, if I don't get in this year, I am moving to CA to get residency and am applying next year!! Talk about temptation!
Congratulations to all of you who got an interview!!

i feel ya slug. i was pretty shocked to get an interview..didn't think it was possible. now i'm counting down the days till april. i don't think i've been mentally there in my class this quarter, just thinking about interviews. i hope to hear some good news soon. good luck to the rest of ya who got interviews! :luck:

With the research I do I am sure they expected me to have the answer, honestly.

My interviewers were Dr. White, Dr. LeCouteur, and Dr. Galuppo. They were all very nice and (it seemed like) even complimentary. Of course I feel like they were probably just humoring me. 😳

Do you work with the cat colonies at Davis, Nyanko? C Barn? I hope they take you, I'll be crossing my fingers for you! I want your neat hair in the Vet med pictures. 😀

Last year (yes I went through and read last year's thread, procrastination much?) there were people who thought they did bad, good, and in between and they got in, so I would not read too much into how the interviewers seemed. Easier said than done, though, I know I'll be freaking out over every gesture: "OMG he picked his nose during my interview, was he bored?!"

I recognize the name Dr. Galuppo, I think it was either his sheep or his rabbits that I've dealt with before.

I used to be an animal tech out at the FNPCC colony, and now I do my catnip research there. I also help manage my professor's colony, which is much smaller. 😉

Thanks for the support!! If I get in hopefully they let me take a new VM ID card picture - the one I have now has my hair at an in-between (blonde) stage!

Hey all you UC Davis experts I have a question about pre-reqs. I know you have to take a physiology course for davis and if you read the guide thing it says that the course should have an emphasis on humans. Is that true? What types of physiology courses did everyone take?

That's strange. The equivalent course listed for UCLA students is comparative animal physiology (with lab).

If you are taking classes in California try assist.org for help.

i called them about that last year because i took an animal phys class and from what i remember, they said it was ok. but i would double check.

Some of the schools don't offer animal physiology so iirc the prereq reads something like "mammalian physiology acceptable."

I took Neurophysiology and Behavior and thats all I needed to graduate and apply to vet school. Specifically NPB 101

Neat, Nyanko! I worked with CVS so I only ever saw the sick kitties, although on our calls to Tupper we'd go play in the cat rooms, the cats were so friendly. I almost took one home, she was up for adoption and had the cutest cross eyed little face.

I took comparative animal physio, and it worked out just fine as far as requirements go. I will say that for my personal learning it was broader in the concepts covered vs. if I had taken human physio, but it was a great class and got the job done.

And I just made myself a pan of brownies so I can eat away all my interview anxiety. It's totally worth it, mmmm.

hey, this is for all those stragglers like me with the later interviews... I got through it and like everyone's said, the interviewers are super friendly and the interview itself was a very comfortable experience. They continually complimented me on my responses to their questions (even though what I said wasn't remarkable) and even when I stumbled on a question, they kinda helped me through it. And davis students are super friendly wishing me good luck as I walked by. I know its been said a million times, but seriously, just be yourself and enjoy meeting some great ppl

I had my interview on Friday and it was a great experience. The interviewers were very gracious and friendly. In no way was it the interrogative experience I was prepared for, or had heard about from previous years! Best of luck to everyone left to go. Just be yourself and talk about what you know, that's all you've got!

I had my interview today, and I really wanted to say how awesome all the interviewers were and I think that speaks volumes for the school - they really just wanted to get to know me and were really friendly and nice. Dr. LeFebvre was in the waiting room (he's done interviewing, though)http://faculty.vetmed.ucdavis.edu/faculty/rblefebvre/ with Flo and he is such a nice guy! The lady who checked me in was also super nice.

The questions were like the ones on the website, but they also asked a bunch of questions specific to my experience/interests which was nice. I had Dr. White, Dr. Ina, and Dr. Christopher. Overall a very positive experience and I'm so glad I had the opportunity to interview, because Davis is awesome!:soexcited:

Not to mention I treated myself to In-n-Out after my interview, mmm!

Remember, Flo wasn't there 😉 Dean LeFebvre is awesome -- I think it would have been fun to have him on my panel!

Glad you had such a good experience! Love your enthusiasm and your post-interview food choice 😀

Ive officially started my countdown until hear:

The official count is 14 days

The unnofficial, because they always seem to start teling people the friday before, count is 11 days

Im open to all suggetions on how to distract myself for the next week (ive got the second week of wait covered, i booked a trip to visit a friend in hawaii. That way if i get in: mai tai on the beach.. and if i dont: 12 or 13 mai tais on the beach)

Start cooking/baking. Same theory as the mai tai's: Make a massive cake if you get in eat a piece and if you do not eat 2-3 pieces.

Go buy a massive 1000 piece puzzle and try to put it together. Once you start you keep getting drawn back to it (at least I do).

Fly a kite! That is always entertaining and go hiking.

Good Luck! I will keep my fingers crossed for you to get in! :xf: And enjoy your time in Hawaii! (Not jealous at all! 😡) 😛

I think I have waiting for Davis down. Finals next week plus jury duty over spring break equal no time to obsess. yay?

just remember that they are starting to send out invites on the 22nd. We could be waiting up until april 1. when i talked to them at my interview they said they dont give exact dates because they dont want a million people calling. So it can be anytime between the 22nd and the 1st! sorry if that just increased the time for possible ulcers.
