Here's to waiting over the weekend for the rest of us.

According to their office notices for waitlist, accept and deny are all still being sent out. They have three furlough days next week- Wed-Fri so they said to expect something by April 1st. Haha, great day to get some news 🙂

I know someone had mentioned that people with still-in-progress prereq's were likely to hear later in the process. I am curious if anyone who has gotten their acceptance was in that group or if everyone was finished with their coursework?

Sorry guys, I am going crazy, I leave for a two-week trip next week and won't have the internet so I am trying to glean as much info as possible, lol. 😳

Dang, just got an email and I'm waitlisted #6. Don't get me wrong, I'm incredibly happy that I did not get a flat out rejection, but now I'm still left freaking out about whether or not I might get in. I talked to the very nice lady at the office and she said that 11 people have to deny to get to the alternate list alone, then 6 more have to decline to get to me.

She said it was doable, though, so I will cling to that. I'm hoping that anyone who is wavering on Davis will think of me - who is NOT wavering and has wanted to go to Davis alone for a long time now.

Congrats to everyone who received an acceptance, well done! 👍😀

I'm in the same position as you. I got placed on the alternate list as well.. did you call to find out what position you were? Congrats to everyone else!

Cooniexp - we can be waitlist buds together (did you call to get your rank?). Waitlist and alternate list are the same thing, there's only one. I'm staying positive, and by gosh if I get called the day before classes start I'm going!!!

Here's the info I have about the alternate list from this year's interview orientation:

  • 20-25 people on the alternate list
  • 12-15 usually get in
  • Oversubscribe by 10 people (but this year they took 11)
The thing I'm not clear on is if the 12-15 are from the waitlist, or if that includes the oversubscribed people (so for this year 1-4 people will get in off the alternate list). Does anyone know?

ETA: Yes, I called the office. They were really supportive and encouraging! Though if you don't want to be hanging all weekend you have a few minutes before 5pm to call.

I am a long-time lurker and am also still waiting to be notified... as far as I know, all of my pre-req's are done, unless of course they decide one of my classes doesn't "count," but I had previously gotten the ok on them from the admissions office. So I'm in the same nail-biting boat as several of you - it's going to be a loooong weekend.

Hooray for waitlist buds! It makes it less painful knowing that someone else is going through it too. I like your attitude. I'm there with you -- I'd teleport there if they called me the day before classes. I have to call them next week to find out my position because it's too late already..

This same question came up last year and nobody really knows, but #1 and #4 were here last year and got in (and are 2 awesome members of the class of 2013!!!), and #11 was also here and didn't (and is still awesome at ISU).

And according to last year's thread they actually made it at least through #6. :luck:

ZeebraFinch, I played the waitlist game last year and I know how much it sucks. From what I remember I started out at number eight and they overbooked by five. I ended up number one which means that they had twelve people decline. I've also heard they usually take twelve students and I assumed that was twelve off the waitlist. Number six sounds promising but who knows. Hang in there!

It's good to know there are still acceptances out there for those of us still waiting! Hopefully they will let us know before those furlough days. I can't believe I have to wait another two days at minimum . . . waiting another 13 for April 1 will certainly drive me mad!

Also, I'm thinking we'll all know our admissions results before those furlough days come up because that Accept/Decline form goes live on Wednesday, March 24. A girl can hope, right . . .🙄

I was thinkin' the same thing! Hopefully we only have to wait until monday and will get good news. Until then things around me are going to get really clean

Congrats Jesiah! 😀
holy effing **** I GOT IN!!!!!!!!!!!!!! for those not of age, sorry for the language, but DAYMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM I'M IN!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey everyone! So I was notified today that I am on the waitlist.....I called and I am in spot number 3...
Yasmin told me that they will have to have 14 declines to accept me and that they normally add up 7 people from the waitlist, but that there are no guarantees (as we all know, right?).

So now the wait is on, this is my only school that I have a chance to go to this year. So I am so nervous. I guess that if I don't hear anything by June then I will begin the cycle all over. But I would still be ready to fly up there in a heartbeat even if it is the day before class starts!!!! :luck:

Good luck to us on the waitlist!

Also good luck to those of you still waiting to hear.🙂

Zebrafinch--

Nyanko is right. I was number four on the wait list last year before it started moving--which, btw, probably won't happen until the date that accepted students have to accept/decline offers by. The "twelve to fifteen" meant from the waitlist, but I think she told me a few less than that last year. It's stressful, but hang in there! 👍

Minikitte just posted that Yasmin said they normally take about 7 from the waitlist. That's the number I was told last year as well.

Hey all - i've been lurking around for a while 🙄. I got my acceptance email yesterday. I was wait-listed last year, and was #9. When class started in the fall, I had made it to number 2 (so they offered spots to 7 people). Yasmin said that they usually do go through more people, though. Good luck to everyone still waiting - and to those on the wait list - i know how hard it is to wait even longer to find out. I called in every couple weeks to find out if I was moving up (which included calling while on my honeymoon😳).

and I can't wait to meet my future classmates!!!! I keep having to check my email, cuz I can't believe it's real!!!

Thanks so much, everyone. Like I was told it seems 'doable' from what everyone is saying - I like those numbers and can only hope that it'll pan out like that this year. My mind keeps flip flopping as it seems really unimaginable that 17 people will turn down their spot, but then there are people here who are living proof that it is not uncommon to happen! I just hope 17 people who have offers are just so awesome that they have lots of other offers that they will take. :meanie:

I'll be in Davis next week for Spring break, I hope I can keep myself out of trouble and keep my mind off the alternate list. Nothing I can do about it but think positive! Lots and lots of :luck::xf::luck::xf: for myself and the other waitlisters, what a great acceptance story we'll have if we end up getting in. So much 😍 for the Davis classes of 2014 and 2013.

Hey kids,
So based upon the lack of people in suits and skirts walking around I assume interviews are done. I wish you all the best of luck! Remember that classes change from year to year, and you can always improve that application for next year if you need to. Come say hi to us 4th years in clinics!

Sincerely,
Jeff

C/O 2011 President.

Feel free to pm me if you have random questions about anything. You won't get assigned your big sibs for a bit, so in the meantime i'd be happy to help.

Just a friendly reminder that this is a public forum and to be aware that now people know your name, email, and general location (and they may not all be future Davis students or even regulars on this thread).

And possibly worse... posting your email in true, linkable form on the internet usually leads to spam from things that search the internet for email addresses. You might just ask people to PM you instead!

So my apologies to the administration, I heard from a fellow student that the link I posted has created quite a stir back in the office. Apparently, the number of people trying to login has been crashing the server...😱

So if everybody could please stop using that link, that would be great. The link is completely invalid and nobody will be able to login in and use it even if they've been accepted.

((Sorry for all the trouble Kim!!!))

Lol. The power of obsessive pre-vets!

Congrats Jesiah! 😀

lol shelterurigirl...that is pretty funny

congrats to everyone who made it. looking forward to meeting you all soon! still can't believe i made it!

For the dozen or so of us SDNers still waiting for Davis' decision I thought I would post this section from Dr Seuss' "Oh The Places You'll Go." I think it is a brilliant book and this section is right on point.

"The Waiting Place…for people just waiting.

Waiting for a train to go or a bus to come,
or a plane to go or the mail to come,
or the rain to go or the phone to ring,
or the snow to snow o
r waiting around for a Yes or No
or waiting for their hair to grow.

Everyone is just waiting.

Waiting for the fish to bite
or waiting for wind to fly a kite
or waiting around for Friday night
or waiting, perhaps, for their Uncle Jake
or a pot to boil, or a Better Break or a string of pearls,
or a pair of pants or a wig with curls,
or Another Chance.

Everyone is just waiting.
No! That’s not for you!

Somehow you’ll escape all that waiting and staying.
You’ll find the bright places where Boom Bands are playing.
With banner flip-flapping, once more you’ll ride high!
Ready for anything under the sky.
Ready because you’re that kind of a guy!"

If you haven't read the book, you can read the copy (without pictures)
at http://www.teamhope.com/seuss.htm .

Too bad he wasn't so modern, could have used a line about e-mail (and could have been gender neutral).

I love "oh the places you'll go" My friends gave it to me when I graduated high school and wrote notes in it in different sections. I think its applicable to all stages of life 🙂

Hey - i've got a question for all the c/o 2013ers. I've heard that the white coat sizes are funky - and someone mentioned that when we go to accept our spot it will ask about our coat size.

will we have to pick the size right away? and if so - do they run big or large? or is it just plain funky??? 😎

Thanks. And good luck to everyone still waiting - i can only imagine the heartburn that its causing you. I'm crossing all my fingers and toes for you guys!!!! :luck:

The white coats run really big. I ordered a large and I could almost wrap it all the way around me. I ended up exchanging it for a small. Id say order what you would in mens clothes. The brand is Gel labs or something like that.

Hoping today's the day for the rest of us left with a weekend cliff-hanger :xf::luck::xf:

got that right... i really hope they let us know soon.

good luck moosenanny, startingovervet, badcats, and everyone else waiting. it's been a long wknd.

:scared:

for those who made it, are you guys going to get the tablet or the mac? i've never used a mac before, but I kinda wanted to try it out. but i've also heard windows 7 is good and i never used that before either.

good luck to those waiting this week.

I'm a bit conflicted, because I already have a tablet PC with Windows 7 on it so I feel like I could go with the Mac and keep my current tablet as well.

Good luck to everyone waiting to hear today!

My personal guess is that since the accept/decline link opens back up on Wednesday, all decisions will be out by the end of Tuesday.

And to anwser the Tablet or Mac question, I'm getting a Mac... maybe a tablet attachment if it strikes my fancy...ive just had better luck with Mac reliability.

I keep having nightmares that I forgot a pre-req or something and that none of this is real.... So excited!

I keep having nightmares that I forgot a pre-req or something and that none of this is real.... So excited!

I spent most of the day on Thursday convinced that they messed up and meant to send me a rejection or waitlist letter and not an acceptance one. I finally convinced myself otherwise on Friday.

😍 :luck: to everyone still waiting!!!!!!

I'm leaving heavily towards a tablet. I've used both PC and Mac (never owned a Mac tho) and I like the value of a PC better (I agree with most that Mac quality is a bit superior and easier to use, but you end up paying nearly double for a comparable system). I'm just a little worried because I've never used a tablet before and part of me thinks that there is a whole mess of issues that could happen with it, but I'm willing to try.

Jesiah- in regards to Windows 7 being bad or good, I'd generally say it's good. They are a few aspects that are difficult for me at first but that's usually because I'm accustomed to Windows XP and just need to learn the new organization. If you've worked with Vista, then the learning curve should be much faster since the organization is very similar. Regardless, once you get that down, Windows 7 is much nicer than the previous versions even though I still think there's big room for improvement.

For those still waiting to hear this week, GOOD LUCK and I'm sorry it's been such a long wait. It's cruel to have to wait almost an entire week more than some others!

"We anticipate that the Tablet PC option will be approximately $2200. The Mac option will be approximately $1600. Students will also receive a $500 computer grant to help offset the cost."

i've never used a tablet before. is it a lot more convenient than not having one?

the mac's screen is one inch bigger 13.3 vs. 12.1. i'm still undecided, but i guess there's plenty of time for that.

thanks for the input all. i still can't believe i'm in. everyone i've told seems to be more excited than i am. will probably hit me when i move up though =p

Just to clarify, I meant Macs are more expensive for comparable models of PC laptops, a tablet PC is way more complex/expensive than a standard laptop, which should explain the difference. Either way, I wouldn't really consider myself a computer buff so I'll let someone else who is take over. This would be my first time with a tablet, but I've always wanted to play with one now I finally have an excuse to get one (those of you who are going to say "the novelty of a tablet wears off quickly," just let me be excited)

I'm leaning heavily toward getting the mac. I've always been a pc guy until we inherited an ibook; it's hard to explain but it just seems easier to use. I will say that MS Word is frustrating on the mac if you're used to the pc version and I still can't maximize a window with one click, that drives me crazy (I'm sure there's a way but I haven't figured it out yet) One last comment, the one button mouse takes some getting used to, I still catch myself trying to "right click".
Jesiah, I know what you mean by everyone else being more excited than you; I feel the same way. I'm sure it'll sink in over the summer.

When I asked at my interview when we would hear, Yasmin mentioned that there would be a spring break-type long weekend where they wouldn't be sending ANYTHING out, so I guess the rest of us have to wait until later this week. 😳

ETA: ^ That's my idea of a cringing smiley.
