Hey guys! Sorry if someone already talked about this, I haven't been on here in a while and don't have time to look through for the answer! Haha my friend and I have been wondering if for UC Davis you need one semester of O-chem or 2 semesters? It looks like 2 but only one lab? Idk I'm too brain fried with other school work to do the math and look into it further, plus I will enter that endless hole of looking at this requirement and then that schools reqs and then oh look at the school and oh I like this one and oh wait what does that say? ...and before you know it 3 hours went by and the lab report you're working on only has a title! 😉 hahaha so figured id just ask y'all and get a straight answer! Yes I know other schools require 2 and I'm gonna do 2 semesters any way, but I'm just curious, plus my friend will prob only do the one required (ya not smart idea but oh well.) okay ready set go! Sorry for any grammatical errors, I'm typing on my phone while walking...very dangerous lol!!
Thanks!

A lot of the UCs have ochem as three semester courses, two are lecture and one is lab for the material for the other two semesters that can be taken at the same time as the second semester lecture or separately. Your lab has to cover both semesters basically. If you have a question about your particular courses, you should consult Davis admissions.

I applied in 2009, so I don't know what the current information is, but I went to UCSD and had to take a second quarter of general chem lab, but the one full year (3 quarters) of o-chem plus one quarter of lab was fine.

When I emailed the Davis vet admissions office to ask, they said that if I was at a school that had semesters, I should do the school's two-semester organic chem sequence, and I didn't need to take the lab for the second semester. If you want to know about a specific set of classes, though, I would email them with the class descriptions and ask if they will fulfill the requirements - I did that for a different Davis pre-req, and they got back to me promptly.

Yes, email Davis firstly.
Secondly, the requirements that they have listed are odd because they were recently on the quarter system. They have 3 gen chem courses listed as requirements. In a quarter system, those 3 classes would be a "one year sequence", which equals 2 semesters.
Their 2 O chem lectures + lab is roughly equal to a kind of long semester. So I believe that taking just one appropriate O chem lecture/lab at a semester undergrad would be fine. Personally, I've only taken one O chem lecture and one lab, and they accepted them.

Hollista, I should also mention this. Their pre-req page ( http://www.vetmed.ucdavis.edu/students/dvm_program/admissions/required_prevet_courses.cfm ) mentions ASSIST. Your profile says that you are in california, so this would be applicable to you. Through ASSIST (http://www.assist.org/web-assist/welcome.html) you can select two campuses (ie, davis and your undergrad) and easily see how classes transfer over.
It could be helpful if they try to say "oh we don't know if it counts", because you could then reference ASSIST to back you up, as it shows the official articulation agreements that Davis has made with other schools.

I just looked up Davis and Cal Poly SLO's agreement real quickly, and Davis' two required O chem courses, 8A and 8B, are BOTH completed by taking SLO's chem 212. And they're bound to that agreement.

Hope some of that helped!

Thank you all so much! Yeah I think I'm going to email them, yes I've used ASSIST and it's pretty cool, but u fortunately I'm at a private university now, so it's not on there. =\ but good to look at for other schools just to get an idea of how many are required. Thanks all for your help! 😉
