UC Post Bacc 2013 Cycle

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Has anyone heard anything back from UCI or any other programs?

Thanks for posting it was lonely here.
In addition to above question, if someone knows about requirements of recommendation letters. I have my three letters in, but I had fourth one just in case and now my application is in pending status. Do you guys know if they look at your application with three letters or all of them have to be in?

I believe the first week of interviews for UCI is next week, beginning Monday. More people should be hearing back this week, especially if your app was "complete" early - GL!

I think I read somewhere they only look at the first three LOR's they receive and the if you send more they will only consider them if they have time.

Happypremed: That's awesome! Did you already hear back for an interview? If so was it an e-mail or phone call?

Hey everyone! I am also interested to know if anyone has heard back from UCI yet??

ya mine was a few days before that, hopefully we'll hear about an interview soon.

I received an invitation to interview via email last Friday. My app was complete the week before.

I am glad we have more people here!
Good Luck Happypremed, I am pretty sure you are very Happy right now 🙂.
Thanks for response Thaddius (Difficult user name).

nice congrats happypremed! Good luck with your interview! are you guys re-applicants or first time applicants?

Does anyone know what the Feb 28th "priority deadline" meant for UCI cuz I guess they have a regular deadline in March as well?

I am pretty sure it meant that people who were complete early will be given priority in terms of reviewing their application ( Getting interviews etc) And people like me will have to wait for left overs 🙂.

Hey Reckless I don't know if you heard but they aren't having a post baccalaureate program at UCSD this year. Budget cuts 🙁

At least not the one that is part of the consortium. There are other post baccs at UCSD though

thanks for starting this thread!

1) does anyone know the general dates in terms of when's an "early" date to be completed and when is a "late"

I was complete yesterday, when they received my transcript.

2) sorta new to the postbac progs, does the UC consortium just verify information and then send it out to schools and they review them?

i applied to med shcools in 2012 and havent heard back so i applied to the UC postbacc's... hope its not used against me!

any other info would be great!

thanks again guys!

hhhmmm weird it says my application was sent to UCSD but ya on the consortium website it's not listed as school you can apply to anymore. Does that mean they're just not taking anyone this year?

@ Heart1
To ans your second question I do not think it will be counted against you. If anything it will help you. In previous forms re-applicant were getting interviews and acceptances.

@ Reckless I applied to the UCSD post baccalaureate program that was part of the consortium. But then almost right away I noticed on the consortiums website that there was not going to be one at UCSD because of budget cuts. But as Thaddius said, on my application it still says that my application was sent to UCSD. I believe thats just an error

Yeahhh, I am complete today! 😍
I was wondering if any of you guys are studying for MCAT?

Hello everyone! GL this cycle. I am still in the process of completing my application. But is it just me, or is UCSD no longer available?

@ pokemon88 yeah I have read the entire 5 book kaplan series and am taking a class next quarter. how about you?

@premeddoc UCSD is unfortunately not having a postbacc with the consortium this year 🙁

I was thinking of taking it in summer after school. I am just studying right now, I didn't like Kaplan working with BR.

Has anyone already interviewed at UCI or heard back about an interview from them?

Yeah I am also curious to know if anyone else has heard back from UCI or interviewed yet?

I heard back for an interview from UCI but haven't had it yet...has anyone heard anything from anywhere yet?

So no one has heard back from anywhere yet......?

unfortunately no :/ but its probably too early to hear from the other programs though since the due date isn't till April 10th

ya i doubt the other schools have responded yet...well if anyone here did apply to UCI good luck! I'll share any advice I may have after my interview!

Just wondering, since most of the UC PBs are tailored towards under-represented minorities, do all of you guys who have gotten your interview invites fall in that category?

WHOOOOOOOOOO

i'm ecstatic right now! just got a call about 15 minutes ago from UCSF's post bac program!

interviewing on 4/25

Heart1--- That is awesome! Congratulations.
I received a rejection email from Irvine pre-interview so BOOOOO. 🙂

I GOT ACCEPTED INTO UCI 🙂 I got the email last week and haven't had much time to process it all but I'm so unbelievably happy and excited!

Good luck everyone! Be confident in your interviews and dress for success! 👍

I actually have applied and interviewed at UCSD post bacc. I haven't heard anything though. Has anyone else heard anything from that school in particular?

Good job, Positivity123! Do you mind telling me how you applied for the program? Was it through the Postbacc Consortium? Thanks!

Ya if anyone knows for sure what the deal with UCSD is please let us know. I heard they're not doing the consortium postbacc this year...are you talking about their other postbacc program then? Or did you get an interview for their postbacc through the UC consortium?

Is anyone pending like me? I'm getting a little jittery because today is the deadline and I don't know if my supporting documents(transcript, two recommendation letters) have been received...anyone know what happens exactly if they're not received by the deadline? I'm hoping they are not rigid with rejection as it says on the website and gives you a little room. It's so frustrating because I've sent my transcripts THREE times and I've asked for recommendation letters in January. I feel like I've done my part...

If you're talking about the new post-bacc pre-med program at UCSD, I talked to the director of the program last week and he said they were scheduled to get together this past Monday (the 8th) to make decisions. He said he expects decisions to be sent out starting this Friday the 12th. Fingers crossed!

I'm in sort of the same boat. I'm waiting on two of my letters of recommendation to be received. I gave the Consortium a call this morning, and they said as long as the letter is post-marked by today, it will be considered. One of my former professors has been hard to reach, and for this reason, I am unsure if he's sent it in--even after reminding him several times. So don't worry, you're not alone!

im sure a lot of us have the same question.. where and how did you apply to ucsd's postbac program? a lot of us applied through the UC postbac consortium but said that UCSD's program is cancelled because of budget cuts but UCRiverside opened up to everyone (rather than just UCR alumni)

and im assuming its too late to apply to UCSD's program if there is one....?

This is the new UCSD post-bac program: http://postbacpremed.ucsd.edu/index.cfm

It is not, as far as I know, part of the consortium, and is open to students of all backgrounds (not just disadvantaged). Unfortunately, the application deadline was back in January.

Thank you for replying, your message helped me so much!! I hope yours gets in!!! Some of them are so encumbered with projects, classes, research, etc it's so hard to reach them :/. I finally got through to one of my professors this morning and she forgot and is fedexing it today lolol. Btw, do you know or remember where the contact number is? I tried the one on the website and all it did was say "US Post baccalaureate consortium" and beeped for a message recording.

do you guys have general advice?

Yeah my stuff got in today. The coordinator gave me the option of having the letter of recommendation sent as a PDF through e-mail, so it all worked out! The contact number is (916) 734-1886. It's probably the number you called because I got that message later in the day, too. I'm not sure what their office hours are, so maybe the office was closed? Not sure!
