I interviewed in early Jan. and today my status page changed to "on hold" in the alternate column. I am a bit bummed out because I thought things went really well at UCI. I re-read this entire thread and it seems like for some people the "on hold" means you are being reviewed and for some it is a waitlist. I guess I should wait a few days and see what happens. Did anyone who interviewed later in the cycle like Dec. or Jan. get the "on hold" and have it turn into an acceptance? Thanks.
 
"on hold" only means you're being reviewed. it's not a bad thing. In fact, it's good because it means you'll hear something in a few days. If the alternate column changes to "yes" from "on hold" that means you've been waitlisted (that's what happened to me 🙁

Thanks hapkidochic. That makes me feel better. I have had such a crappy day I just assumed the worst when I saw that. So I have to hope to not see a "yes" in the next few days. It'll be nice to get some news from someone... the other schools are so slow. I'm sorry you got waitlisted and I hope you get off thelist later on. It sounds like we have a pretty good shot of that happening later since they accept a lot of people from the list. Let's all just hope for the best I guess.

Well, that was quick. As of today I have the "yes" in the alternate column. So it looks like I am joining the alternate list too 🙁
 
Sorry to hear the news azpremed. That was a quick response time from UCI. I have my interview on Feb 17th, so I'll make sure they hear about puttinh you in the alternate position.

Also, if you really really really want to go there, try a LOI.
 
sorry azpremed. i was pretty bummed out too when i saw that 'yes' in the alternate column. when i spoke with gayle, she said a little bit of waitlist movement occurs before april, but most will happen after june. She also said that waitlist movement varies a lot from year to year. sometimes only a few people come off the waiting list, other years, most of the class is from the waiting list.
 
I too am sorry to hear about the waitlist. My status still says on hold, so I'm becoming very nervous about checking my status tomorrow. I checked the stats from last year, and UCI accepted like over 60% of the interviewees. So there should be hope for waitlisters.

I still think there is hope but am just bummed that it will be a long wait until the summer now. And I think my chances for getting into PRIME-LC, which I really wanted to do, are now shot. Did any of you guys on the alternate list also interview for PRIME-LC? I called the PRIME-LC office today and they said if you were on the alternate list they couldn't consider you for the program until you were admitted. Oh well. Anyway, I hope we all hear some good news come June or whenever.

Thanks, azpremed. I interviewed on 1/8, so maybe I might have seen you around. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for all of us here.
 
interviewed 1/8. i was lucky to get a phone call delivering good news yesterday. i loved irvine and my choice is now b/w irvine and usc.
 
congrats!!! you are so lucky to have to choose between two cali schools!!!!!!!
 
Congratulations rdy4ths2Bovr on your acceptance to Irvine!! I too also got the phone call delivering the good news that morning. It's such a relief to get into a Cali school, isn't it? Hoping for others who have not heard yet or are waitlisted to eventually get into Irvine or any of the other Cali schools.
 
Just became "on hold" today post-interview. How long does it usually take for them to decide after one is "one hold?"

Mine took exactly a week before the status changed. Some other people changed earlier than that, like in 3-4 days.
 
I also checked my UCI status page today, and it also has the words "on hold" next to alternate. (I interviewed in late Jan.) From what I read in this thread, this is what I understand "on hold" next to "alternate" at UCI to mean - if this is actually wrong, someone please correct me.

-- Having the words "on hold" next to "alternate" means your application is currently under review (post-interview). Once this review is completed, one of these two things can happen:

1) The "On hold" next to alternate changes to "yes" - this means you are now on the wait list. There is little movement off the wait list until June; on some years a lot of people are taken off the wait list, on some years, only a few.

2) The "On hold" next to alternate disappears - and is replaced by a date next to "Final Decision Letter." This can mean either a letter of rejection, or a letter of acceptance will soon be mailed to you. Some acceptances are accompanied by phone calls from the administration. Also, the period of time for "on hold" to change can take anywhere from a few days to a couple weeks.

Again, if my understanding of any of this is wrong, someone please let correct me, because I'd really like to know what this "on hold' stuff really means. Thanks. 🙂
 
Does anyone know anything about the PREinterview hold status? Should I chalk this up to a rejection or do people actually get interviewed from this hold list?
 
someone posted on another thread that the people on hold for an interview at UCI would be re-reviewed at the end of february. so there's still some hope...
 
Hope for all you pre-interview hold people.....I was put on hold like in October, and just today (2/19) I got an interview invite. Funny thing is that they didn't even give me an option as to which days to interview. I just got an email "confirming" that I will be interviewing this day....how rude haha.

im still on the alternate list. gayle said there wont be mvmt until may. do u know if people have been getting off the alternate list recently or will it really start moving in may??
 
The alternate list is for post-interviewees, correct?
 
Interviewed 1/22 and joined the alternate list today!
 
Another January interviewee placed on the alternate list. I'm feeling really, really depressed about this for a number of reasons. 🙁 If anyone later in May finds out approximately how many people UCI might be taking off the alternate list, please let us know.
 
i think my interview may not have been good. the faculty said i had an amazing dossier but i think he thought i was too young. hmm, maybe that is why i was put on the alternate.

does anyone else who got on the alternate list feel it was because of the interview?

i thought my interviews there went amazingly well. both of my interviewers told me they thought i was a great fit for the school and they hoped to see me in the fall. that's one reason i was so surprised to get on the alternate. i was thinking it was my 29 on the mcat that did it. i was also wondering if it's a regional thing cuz i am from nor cal and just got into davis and ucd and uci seem to have similar profiles in terms of stats of who they take.
 
see just like me. they thought evertyhing i did was amazing and really liked me. so i was suprised too.
 
i had a quick question about financial aid...

by march 2nd, do we just have to send that one sheet about whether or not we want primary care loans (the COM certification sheet) or do we have to send all of the other stuff that was on the web page too (i.e. parent's asset info...)

thanx for your help! i wanted to double check.
 
I think it has a lot to do with how late we interviewed. I know they said they still had spots open but come on, you all sound like good candidates and none of us got in?

I believe it was just that one primary care sheet. That is all that I sent back. And I designated them on FAFSA. Someone please correct me if I am wrong about this.

I think mine was because of the interview. Both my interviews weren't exactly bad, but there was anything amazing about them either. I have had interviews where I have left with a really good feeling....and these were not like that. Also both of my interviewers knew nothing about me, I think that kind of messes up an open interview also. I interviewed pretty early (Oct) so I don't think time is a factor. Back then they said very few people get accepted right away. Most are put on the alternate list. I think UCI sends out a whole bunch of acceptances on March 15.
Also they are really big on update letters.

I had a similar experience - two great interviews. But I don't know if MCAT or region are large factors because I had a 33 and I'm from Southern California, and I ended up on the alternate list too. Honestly I don't know what the deal is.

that sux 🙁 i called today to talk to gayle about my status finally and she confirmed that movement would start happening in may at the earliest and go thru the summer. we can send updates and letters if we want. she also said that for the people they are still interviewing, they have the same chance of getting accepted as we did when we interviewed. and for prime-lc they are not interviewing for the waiting list.

i dunno what to do. i really liked uci but i got into davis and liked it too. it is closer to home for me, so i may just withdraw my uci application now that i can see i have no shot at prime-lc rather than wait thru the summer. i have to think about it. anyway, that's my update and good luck with uci to everyone out there 🙂
 
ew! according to last year's SDNers, the waitlist movement really takes place in June and July, when most people have already made plans to go elsewhere! what a horrible wait!!!
 
WOW!! My application just began its post-interview review!! That was quick! Wish me luck guys! Hopefully, it will say final decision sent soon, and not "yes" in the Alternate section! :clap:

Has anyone actually been Rejected post-interview here?
 
I think I would bet $10 that no one (or at least almost no one) has been rejected... yet... to either uci or ucd.

sure. im just saying that some schools dont reject people till the very end (i guess u can say that is in may). like at uci, everyone who is not immed accepted post-interv is put on the alternate list. that means you shouldnt read to much into it cause everyone is put on it (temporarily maybe). (on the side, when the uci waitlist comes out, im not sure if everyone is still automatically put on that). my point: alternate list may not mean that much about how good your chances are, just that you still have one.
does that make sense?
 
Anyone know what the meeting schedule for the committee is? When I interviewed earlier this month, they said that they were reviewing applicants from the previous month that night (3/4). Is it the first Thursday of each month?
 
don't know, but as you interviewed recently, did they say when they would finish interviewing (ie, when is their last interview day?)
