Hello, I know we have secondary specific thread on the pre-allo, but I wanted to post this question here as MD/PhD applicants have 2 additional secondary essays.

My question is about the redundancy: the questions on the secondary look very similar to the AMCAS question ( Tell us about your project and why do you want to MD/PhD?).

I am not sure how to tackle these questions without being repetitious. Any suggestions? I would love to hear from past applicants about how they dealt with redundant questions...let me know so I can get this secondary out of the door! 🙂

If I remember correctly, the essays on the secondary were shorter than those on the primary (at least for the tell us about your project). I think that it's OK to restate some of the same reasons that you gave before, but don't copy-paste. The wording of the question should give you some idea on what to focus on (i.e. "Given your career goals, why do you want to be an MD/PhD?" is a very different question than "What in your background or experience led you to decide on a joint degree?")

I think that I focused mostly on my most significant project, getting a little more detail for the research essay, and expanded on my reasons for wanting a PhD that fit best with the strengths of UC. (I can't find these essays to check on this) They let me in, so I must have done something right.

Good luck. Maybe I'll see you at an interview weekend.
