The number is from the 2005 US News book --- 238 accepted to fill 121 spots. It's not such an absurd number. According to the same book, UCSF takes 226 to fill 141 spots and UCSD takes 274 to fill 121 spots.

MDhopeful, the 238 does include people who have been waitlisted.

Good luck to those who have been waitlisted! I know I've said it before, but UCLA has had decent waitlist movement in the past.
238 acceptances for the 121 Geffen spots and 316 acceptances for the 169 total spots make sense.

i guess i should have gotten the online version of the US News, the printed one apparently doesn't have as much info. ah well, it's not like it matters anymore

I'm so bummed, I'm on the hold list which the letter states won't be looked at until July, which would be too late for me to alter my course to New Orleans, so it might as well have been a rejection for all it means to me. Poop.

4/10 status changees....don't give up hope...i think their just slow
i status changed not too long ago and got waitlisted, but from what it seems, that's not too bad of a position to be in

anyway, just wanted to let you all know that i went by the admissions office today to drop off my "yes, i accept your cruel waitlist" letter and asked them how the process works from now on...

she said that they don't touch the waitlist until May 15th...she also mentioned that there are 100 or so people on this list

what is ucla's class size?
how many are usually accepted? anyone know these #'s ?

xxbruinxx, thanx for being so positive! 🙂

knowing how important this mail is to me, im sure it will not get here till the end of the week. lol.

it's so important to stay positive and upbeat during this whole process...though it's certainly easier said than done...i might need to take my own advice

i'm on 3 waitlists, one reject, and one upcoming interview at Davis (on my birthday actually...)

so i think it's going to be a long summer for me...

hang in there, psipina and xxbruinxx! i'm cheering for u, and i hope you'll convince yourself soon that if you're happy with yourself you'll be happy wherever you go!

i kno i kno...cheesy cr*p like that probably doesn't sound like much when it comes to something like med school...but we HAVE to be excited about starting it, whichever one it is...we can't be jaded or disappointed going in!!

Interviewed 2/23
Decision Letter Sent 4/5
....Unranked Waitlist

The wait continues for me🙂

Congratulations. Now you can go update your info on UCLA class of 2010 👍

Ditto! 👍 If you're decided on UCLA for sure, here's the link to the UCLA Class of 2010 thread Infiniti mentioned. Also, are you thinking of re-applying for MSTP funding after MS1 or MS2 if they allow it?

Thanks infiniti and Bluntman, I am definitely re-applying if its allowed, I was pretty crushed when I got the MSTP rejection (congrats btw I am envious). I felt that todays letter was almost certainly a rejection and I was getting ready to move to the midwest for another program. Now I'm faced with the "chaos" decision described in the MD/PhD guidebook.

Hey Ya'll, I could not resist the big UCLA thread. Time to get this puppy moving. So what is going on folks? Interviewed on March 16--No status change yet. Come on.

What is the update on the famous batches. Anyone?

ROLLL CALLL.

To to show I've gone mad!

Here it is folks.

The famous batch system!

February 22- acceptances
March 3- waitlists
March 7-holds
March 13-acceptances
March 28-acceptances
April 5-waitlists/holds/rejections
April 10-acceptances

Sounds right? I am a little unsure about the last two, but that is what was reported. Anybody see anything special in this trend? 😀

Thanks man. Yea the "chaos" spot is a tough one to be in, I feel ya on that. Are you into some other MSTPs already that you're gonna have to weigh against UCLA MD, or is it all MDs at this point? Anyway, congrats again on the MD acceptance, and I've got my fingers crossed for you that they allow second cycle reapplicants for the MSTP. If they do, you'll be a shoe in! See you at the revisit!

Keep us posted. Are you in California? The USPS is so slow when one is waiting for something.

Anyone else still waiting post-interview? I can't stand the wait. I check my status page a gazallion times a day. Yesterday, I said to myself "check it once a week, okay, just once" but I've gone Mad. Maybe, I should go surfing!

I know of someone who got into Drew/UCLA today. That's a different admissions process, though.

I interviewed early March and I'm still waiting for a status change.

Good for them. They must be feeling really good right now. UCLA is a special place. I cannot believe how much the school has changed over the past five years. I wish to part of the Mednet fireworks.

Good luck NapeSpikes. Did they tell you when they were going to let us know? I was going to ask, but by the time I came out of my interview, the office had wrapped up.

Hey UCLAStudent, what's the scoop with decisions, jooo gotta know something. Find out for us, come on...LOL.

me too--got the hold letter today. sucksss.. status change 4/5. it arrived at my parents house. told them to send it to me. sucksss even more...

Nope, they didn't tell me anything about timeline, and I couldn't work it into the convo. I loved the school, but honestly, I'm not holding my breath. I'm very thankful for the one OOS acceptance I have. 🙂

I'll post when I notice a status change. :luck: to you as well!

Keep hope alive. Hey, at least it was not a rejection.

I want to call the office tomorrow, I don't know, should I--it appears they say the same thing over and over again. Is anyone else waiting, besides Nape? If so, when did you interview?

I can't believe the number of views(39, 539) in relation to posts (877). What is everyone staring at. Post people, let us know your thoughts. I find it hard to believe that everyone has heard back post-interview.

I was going to call the admissions office today, but I am going to hold back. Or does anyone want to volunteer? 😀

Did you hear anything tree? It seems you are the only one left waiting to hear with a status change. Keeps us posted.

Thanks bluntman, I'm in at a MD/PhD (not MSTP yet but it looks like the program may recieve that status soon) program thats fully funded. I've reread my MSTP rejection letter and I can reapply as an MS1 or MS2, so that makes this decision and easy one! see you at the revisit.

Babylonian, why not call? Get some peace of mind. Tree good luck to you, I live in the OC and my letter was postmarked 4/11 so it should come soon. It might be taking a while since this is tax week, I went to send in my intent to accept letter and the post office was a mad house. good luck to everyone!

*shrug* thanks for responding. This waiting is painful, but at least with SDN around I know that there are others 2 months+ post interview who are waiting with me as well.

Call them Flop. I think I am going to call the UCLA office next week. I think the way to get these folks talking is to tell them that you have been accepted somewhere and have to start making plans. So, since DREW is your first choice ( i dunno is it?) you want to know how long until they make a decision. I did this for interviews and it worked. The only thing is that sometimes they will ask you, "oh so what school did you get into?" Uhhhh....Uhhhh. Yeah, some school in this state. Duh.

Come on UCLAstudent you have to do more investigative work. Come on. For us waiting folks. Get up in front of class and say, "yo, My boy Flop is waiting to hear from drew and my boy Babylonian is gone mad, What's the haps on the craps? When are these hommies going to hear?" Gotta love LA lingo.

Well - I told them at my interview that I was already holding an acceptance. I even told them where (decided to play the old honesty routine and see how that worked). I called a few weeks ago and they said to give it 60 days, so I figure I can't call until I hit the 60 day mark. It just seems like a REALLY long time to make a decision as to whether I am even on the waitlist or not.

haahaa--just this part I suppose "When are these hommies going to hear?"

homeboy and hommies are very LA!!! swell!

Hmm.. if I am fortunate enough to get in, will I need a Nor-Cal - SoCal dictionary to help me translate?

Did you write them a letter? I hear that Drew and UCLA are very receptive to letters post-interview. Even if you wrote one, try writing another-be succinct and just reiterate your interests. Email Dr. Aguilera.

I have not even been waiting a month, but boy, one day of waiting seems like and entire lifetime. 😱

since flop is in here lol i figured i should crash here too... been waiting for over 2 months for drew...

well anyways babylonian i actually called drew two weeks ago and they said not to write an LOI until we know our status... i don't know if emailing dr. aguilera would be a good idea or not but it may be... i've tried emailing admissions questions and such but they never get back to me... the only way i get hold of people is to actually talk to them in person over the phone...

thanks for the advice though...

I am everywhere I might get a shred of info MDhopeful lol. I am with you - I am not going to write anything until I hear back after my interview. It just seems a bit odd (desperate) to try to sell yourself further after an interview when you don't even know how you did.

Welcome aboard. LOI (I am assuming this is Letter of intent) is a little over board, but a letter reiterating your interests should be good. You know, talk about how the school will be a good fit. It all goes into your file. Who knows, maybe they have your file somewhere. Haa haa, bring attention to the damn thing. Heck, I have written a letter of interest at every point for UCLA:secondary, interview, and I am thinking about writing another. I don't see how it could hurt someone. It all honestly, it makes their decisions a whole lot easier.

Good luck.

Anyways, thanks for keeping me company. I think that it is just NapeSpikes and I waiting for decisions ucla post-interview near the latter end of this thread. I am sure many guests who are watching are also waiting. Come on people, get on board the UCLA paddy wagon.

Come on man, all premeds are desperate. Don't front (some more la jargon)! Keep it real. Keep it movin'.
