Try and calling the admissions department, even better the Dean of Admissions and show that your deep interest in their program, maybe that can help them remember you as an applicant and give you a better idea how their alternate list works. Alternate work different for different univiersities.

r u an outofstate applicant?

technically no.. but i was born in Norcal, my family lives there (la) and owns property in norcal and socal, and i got my driver's license there. but i spent a majority of my teenage yrs in taiwan where i attended an american school.
therefore, since my fam still lives in la ucla has always been my #1 pick.
so you think i should call noemi and tell her about my desire to attend ucla?

I don't understand why you didn't get an acceptance already. You have a good GPA and great DAT. Also, you interviewed pretty early...and I thought UCLA accepts pretty much everyone they interview. Did anything happen during the interview?

is it because you lead an alternative lifestyle??

i think the reason is i did poorly on the faculty interview. she asked me questions like "oh, ucla accepts pre-dental students of the highest caliber, do you think you'll be able to compete w/ them?" which made me really uncomfortable bc it seemed like she thought i wasn't up-to-par w/ the rest of the students. at this point i'm just hoping i'll get lucky enough to get accepted off the waiting list!

Good luck to you.

There were like at least three people in our class who were called in the week before school starts. Two of them had already moved to New York and started school for couple weeks.

So there is hope. It happens. But your DAT score rocks, so that makes me wonder why you didn't get accepted - especially at UCLA since they seem to care so much for those scores.

Thanks, I guess I messed up REAL bad for the interview then. But I'm planning on writing a letter to Dr. Bibb to explain my poor performance at the interview and to reinforce my interest in attending ucla. I wish I'll be one of those three lucky people that get in the week before school starts, or earlier! Do you know how many got in off the waitlist before that? Like from april till sept?
Thanks a lot for the motivation. I would do anything to get into ucla at this point! But w/ that said, I am still extremely excited about Columbia!

The purpose of an interview is to see if you have the characteristics they are looking for - poise, personality, or whatever. That's why the unexpected questions.

By your own assessment, you didn't do very well. What are you going to tell them in a letter that changes anything?

Well, first off the purpose of the letter is to reinforce my interest of attending ucla. There was an answer I gave during the faculty interview that was misinterpreted so I plan on explaining the answer in greater detail. Furthermore, I felt that during the entire interview, the faculty really wasn't confident I could handle the work load at ucla according to my gpa and dats. So, I am also going to try to convince them that I CAN handle the workload. Anyways, all I'm hoping for is that the letter will increase my chances of getting into the school. I mean I know they aren't going to let me in solely bc of the letter! I just hope that the adcoms will realize how much I want to attend ucla and maybe push me up a couple spots on the alternate list?!

Ecdoesit and jk5177 can tell you how rigid UCLA’s environment is. That’s why faculty members would like to make sure that you will be on the same level with other students. You probably made more than one mistake during your interview, because with your stats, you shouldn’t have any problems to get in. I think letter to Dr. Bibb is a good idea – you can gain more than to loose by doing so. Good luck.

My friend, I think you don't understand.

It sounds like you were given a few hardball questions to see how you would handle the pressure. You say you didn't handle it well. My guess is that's why you did not receive an offer.

No one will have any interest in a written response that you've been thinking about for two weeks. The purpose of the questions was to gauge your reaction on the spot.

Learn from the experience, you're obviously a bright person and you've earned a spot at a great school (Colombia).

I think that a letter explaining why you would make a great addition to ucla is a great idea.

Explain why you like UCLA, why it will help you become the best dentist, what you can add to the school, and how you are very motivated and can handle the rigorous curriculum.

This will make you stand out as a persistent and dedicated applicant and could make a positive difference.

I would not focus on the interview questions and try to explain yourself, rather, focus on why ucla should take you, why you want to go there, etc.

Good luck.

What was your answer that was misinterpreted if you don't mind me asking?

Well, Dr. Bibb is a super busy person. Perhaps the letter should be addressed to the committee instead - it may be good for you to look into that, perhaps ask Noemi or something.

Alright, thanks for the info! I should probably write the letter soon right? Because I want them to read it before they decide the order of the alternate list.
