I guess I'll jump in too. I also interviewed in late March. My status page changed to "letter sent 4/28/2005" and I just got the letter today.....Hold (secondary wait list).... suks. Does any one know if there is any REAL chance at all of getting in off the Hold list? or is it pretty much over.
 
Hey guys. Got the letter today and was rejected (4/29 batch). Good luck to all of you, hopefully you'll hear better news...especially Long John...I'm pulling for you. Let us know.

Don't give up yet! Don't know how long RaaMD waited post interview, but I know you waited for a really looooooooooooooooooooong time. I am sure your file was reviewed multiple times meaning that they didn't want to let you go.

Waiting for your decision is making me nervous. Guess I feel like we shared a fair amount of frustration with UCLA together and hope to see at least one of us make it. 🙂
 
yep, got my letter today, Hold (2nd waitlist). I interviewed in the middle of April. Got my status change on 4/28. The letter indicates probably won't hear anything until July.
 
Can someone please provide some sort of evidence that the 4/29 batch isnt all rejections?

called at 4p.m. yesterday - nobody answered

For this time, 4/28 is hold...4/29 might be waitlist or straight acceptance and 5/2 might be acceptance. But...nothing is guaranteed until you hold the letter in your hand 🙂 Or i could be wrong becuz 4/29 is a friday and the admission office is not done uploading everything so they just continue on May 2nd.

I called them on may 2nd and they said they are reviewing my application as of right then - one day later I check online and it said letter sent may 2nd - so it is not left over from 4/29

you should call them now cuz if your status page changed twice...it's a sign of acceptance and they do tell you over the phone. I just wonder if the waitlist starts moving a little early this year or not...

I am at work again - can't call now - but I am dying!!! Thank god i have one acceptance in hand otherwise i would be camping by my mailbox

you just need 5 min break to call ;-)
 
when i called them on 5/2 to see when a final decision would be reached, i was told that i wouldn't be hearing anything until after 5/15. i asked if i was currently on some type of waitlist. she told me that she "couldn't say whether it would be a waitlist or an acceptance", and that i'd have to wait until 5/15 to see. but later that day my status changed. so go figure.

did your status page changed before 5/2 or you just called b4 and figured that you were on the waitlist ?

no my status page did not change b4 5/2 and yes i just called and was told I quote " i was put on the acceptable pool" - interpret it for yourself. I am way too confused

my status changed 4/28 and it was postmarked 5.2... so dont worry if it comes later

it looks like all the letters were actually sent 5/2. The 4/28, 4/29, and the 5/2 letter sent dates seem to refer to the date the letter was loaded into the system and the letter decision.
So far we know
4/28 = holds
4/29 = rejects (i hope something else too.)
5/2 = ???? the big mystery

I was wondering if last years applicant had a thread like this one that will give us an indication of what to expect over the next couple of weeks. Can someone point me in the right direction. Long_John good luck 🙂
 
I have not posted for a while. My letter was also sent 5/2. I interviewed late in december. I think all the letters that have recently been sent are waitlist or rejections. They had to sent them some time this year and I think it was about time. I have been waiting for a simple response. Hopefully I am wrong and get accepted. I will post if I was directly accepted. Good luck everyone!

got the letter
my roommate took it to her room by mistake yesterday (GRRRR).
I got into the first waitlist or as described by the admissions secretary "alternate" list. Does anyone has more info on this - what are my real chances? When should I hear back?

I hear they put about 100 on the alternate list (1st waitlist) and take about 40 or so. Good luck! 🙂

hi, i thought it was like this:

-1st waitlist group - 200 applicants, UCLA may take 30-50 percent
-2nd priority hold group
 
My source is from last year's threads similar to this one. I think people may have called the office and heard from Geffen students as well. All seem to say that they put 100 on the waitlist (1st waitlist) and 100 on the hold (2nd waitlist), then they pick about 40 from the 1st waitlist and that's it. Unless for some reason, they exhaust the 1st waitlist, which I don't think they ever did, then they dip into the hold people. Hold basically means a rejection.

It probably is 200 people combined. 100 on the first waitlist seems plenty enough to safely fill their class without any problem. But who knows?

ya i got 2nd waitlist, and was told that 100 people are in front of me by an admissions counseler. but who knows!
 
And the decision is....
REJECTION
ouch that hurts real bad. I didnt think I did good job in my interview, but I didnt know that I blowed it that bad. Well, while I am hella bitter now, I know that at the end things happen for the best. I want to wish thanks to all who have supported me and wished me well over the last few months. You guys really are great people and I hope all turns out well for you at the end.

i highly doubt that it was your interview. too many people with bad interviews get into places while good ones don't. same with scores and gpa's. no rhyme or reason.

just go with your gut--that in the end, things happen for the best. wherever you are next year at this time... you will be thinking back on this and it will seem like the right thing. i know that doesn't help much now but the important thing is not to try to second guess the situation... like what you did or didn't do or could have done or should have done. that will only make you crazy.

time to work on your other options. show your drive and passion. you deserve it. good luck!

I'm so sorry, LJ...don't know what else to say for now but good luck with other schools and remember...no matter where you go...you would still could be a great doctor!
 
Dear John,

It is UCLA's big loss. You will become an excellent physician, and your hunger and determination will take you very far. I admire your positive attitude in this situation, and you are right, things do happen for a reason that may not be clear right now but show themselves to be the best outcome later. Oprah once said that her future looked so bright that it hurt her eyes. I really liked that quote, and I believe you will excel. (Yes, I'm a fan of Oprah.)

The unranked waitlist is the waitlist from which acceptances are actually handed out. The other waitlist is termed "hold/2nd waitlist," and only when the unranked waitlist is exhausted do they accept people from this waitlist. By what the admissions office says, this hardly ever happens, which is why many people equate the "hold/2nd waitlist" with a rejection.

same here - that means the alternate list. About 200 people are put on the list and as the spots open up they will be sending acceptances to us first. There is also the hold list that is below us but I have never heard them reaching that list. Good luck - seems like we are on the same boat

The waitlist for UCLA moved quite a lot last year. QUite a lot of people in my class got off from the waitlist, especially in June/July I think. Good luck everyone and I'll see some of you this coming August!! 🙂
